Pennsbury Comments

Just when it looked like 50 minutes would be enough for Soudenton, Emelie Curtis tied it. Then, when it looked like 56 minutes wouldn't be enough for either team, Riley McGowan ended it.

Curtis, a Pennsbury sophomore, scored with 4.4 seconds to go in regulation to force overtime, and then McGowan scored the game-winner with 4.5 seconds left in the second overtime as Souderton escaped with a 16-15 thriller over the Falcons.

It was a day when shots outnumbered turnovers by nearly three to one and both teams played as hard as they could from the opening whistle. No lead was safe, not when Pennsbury led by four in the second half or when Souderton led by two and had the ball with a little more than two minutes to go.

It was also a day for huge individual performances. McGowan's game-winner was her fifth of the day, and that was only a little past halfway to Pennsbury's Lily Nolan, who had a career-high nine goals. Curtis had her first career four-goal game and added three assists for a career-high seven points.

Souderton led 4-1 before a six-goal Pennsbury run that featured four from Nolan and one each from Annie Price and Mia Doran. After Souderton rallied to tie, Nolan scored from Curtis with 21 seconds to go to make it 8-7 at the half.

Pennsbury pushed out to an 11-7 lead before Souderton came back and made it 15-13 on McGowan's fourth, with 2:35 left. Souderton then won the draw, but Pennsbury regained possesion, leading to Nolan's ninth, with 1:52 left. Souderton got a stop and clear with 30 seconds to go before a turnover, giving Pennsbury a final chance.

Caitlin Doyle ran it down the right side for the Falcons and then tried to feed the middle. The ball rolled through to Curtis on the back side, who picked it up and tied it with just 4.4 to go.

Lauren Scott made two saves for Souderton in the first OT. The teams seemed destined to go past the second three-minute OT as well before the Falcons went offside, giving Souderton a possession with 9.5 to go. McGown took a feed in the middle and fired it into the net, finally ending it.

Even with the momentum behind Big Red in the second half the Falcons held strong and came back to tie the game within five seconds of regulation play.
