Calvary Christian Academy vs. Cheltenham

AWAY TEAM
Cheltenham Comments
We played at Calvary Christian today and won 5-4 in OT. I am really proud of the way our team played today. We started strong and came out connecting passes, working together and talking a lot, which is something we have stressed in practice. They struck first, then we answered back with a goal by Mikki Carrera (junior) assisted by Ciara Rodriguez (senior). We had a lot of opportunities in the first half, but their goalkeeper did a really nice job and at halftime it was 1-1. Coming out after halftime we knew we had to pick up the intensity and we scored the next two goals of the half. Mikki Carrera scored her second goal of the game with some good footwork and nice shot to go up 2-1. Then, after a handball in the box, Maya Schwartz (senior) converted the penalty kick. Up 3-1, we continued to work hard in the heat but they came back and scored. We didn’t wait long to get one back and Maleah Kaplan (freshman) scored on a really nice corner run, good touch and found the back of the net. Calvary kept fighting and came back with two goals, including one at the end of regulation to tie it up. Going into the first OT period, the message was to dig deep and push through, which we did. In the first minute, Amaya Washington (senior, goalkeeper), who was the voice on the field all game, got a ball and made a quick punt over middle field to Maya Schwartz who took a few touches to beat the defender and put the ball in the net. This game was a full team effort. We persevered through some injuries and our bench energy was great. We are going to look to build off and learn from this win.
