A very good game tonight against a strong opponent. CBS really move the ball well and we knew that we had to stay organized, focused and resilient against them. I thought our girls stood up to the task well throughout the game.
They definitely had the better of the first half, they move the ball well across the field and we did a good job containing the spaces and limiting their shots on goal. As the half went on we got into the game more and had some good moments including a header cleared off the line from a corner.
The second half I thought we stepped up a level and gained more control of the game, especially later in the half. Mia Cairone was able to create a couple of half chances for herself but she was just off target and our set pieces were still dangerous. In OT both teams had moments and I thought we had it right at the end but the CBS keeper made a nice save on Mia.
Our group is still relatively inexperienced at the Varsity level, the more games we play, the more they are beginning to show the resilience and effort needed on nights like this. We were really pleased with everyone tonight. I'm not sure we can single out an individual, but I do think our mentality across the whole team, on & off the field was very good and that played a big part in coming out away with a clean sheet and a tie. It's been a tough stretch of games in the last week or so, 3 games have gone in OT and one was a last minute win. The girls continue to prove they will compete and work to the very final moments.
