It has been decades since Upper Moreland has won a district play off game, in fact the last time Upper Moreland advanced into the District 1 AAA tournament, was three years ago. They faced Gwynedd Mercy, and lost. Tonight, all of that changed.

With grit, perseverance, passion, and teamwork the Bears beat Gwynedd Mercy 2-1. The atmosphere tonight was incredible. Two talented teams, battling it out, to advance to the next round. We knew that Gwynedd would be strong in the middle and fast on the outsides. We executed our offsides trap, pulling Gwynedd off nine times throughout the game.

A penalty kick was awarded, as Kathryn Morrow cut the ball into the box and beat her defender. She was tackled from behind, resulting in the penalty kick. Sarah Veneziale confidently put the ball in the back of the net. Gwynedd quickly countered, about a minute later evening the score once again.

The next twenty minutes were back and forth with both teams getting opportunities. Jackie Martino, came up big for us tonight, recording 7 saves. As did our defensive backs Maddie Gerlach, Kaiya Herb and Meghan O'Donnell. The winning goal came all the way from our defensive end. Jackie made a tremendous save in the net. The rebound came back in Maddie Gerlach was there to clear it out. She found Alexis Lamb in the midfield, who then found Grace Burns. Grace beat her defender and then took on the goalie, she buried the ball in the side netting for the win.

It was an unbelievable team win tonight. Every single player on our team added to this win. The girls executed our game plan, and played smart. I am so proud of the heart this team shows daily.
