Central Bucks West Comments
The night belonged to Sienna Lawson. Not only did Lawson pitch a three-hit shutout in the Bucks 8-0 win over Pennridge High School she picked up her career 400th strikeout along the way. Lawson struck out fourteen Pennridge batters while going the distance and only allowing three players from Pennridge to reach base on the evening. Lawson was extremely efficient on the night needing only 83 pitches during the contest and throwing 68 of them for strikes. But the big strikeout was the last one of the game when Lawson retired the last Pennridge batter she faced with her career strikeout number 400. Lawson also picked up her tenth win of the season and helped the Bucks improve to 12-5 overall. The hitting stars for West was their catcher Ava Mattes who went three for four on the day and drove in one of the Bucks runs. Laila Murray who went two for three and had two RBIS and scored a run. Ana Glemser drove in a run with a triple to the right center gap in the top of the seventh driving in pinch runner Hailey Worthington and giving the Bucks their eighth and final run on the evening. Emily Gerstein and Taylor Hooven also chipped in key hits for the Bucks. Coach Mike Daher said, "this was another good win for us, although we were a little disappointed in the fact that we again left too many runners on base. But the night was very special in the fact that Sienna Lawson's pitching helped carry us to a big win and watching her get her 400th career strikeout to end the game made the win that much more exciting. Sienna is an extremely hard worker and always wants the ball. It is always fun to watch her pitch, but today was a little extra special when she picked up that memorable strikeout to end the game. We are playing great defense right now and also getting good pitching. We are getting our share of hits as well, but not always getting them at the right time with runners in scoring position. In the last few innings, we did get some big hits including Ana Glemser's RBI triple and a two-run single off the bat of Laila Murray. I am confident that the hitting that we showed late in the game against Pennridge will carry into our next game against Archbishop Wood."
