National Conference
Neshaminy 2, Pennsbury 1 (OT)
Thanks to an overtime goal from senior Kenny Herrmann, Neshaminy has found itself with a bit of welcome breathing room atop the National Conference standings.
The Redskins are now 6-1-0 overall, a perfect 5-0-0 in the conference and a full two games up on the next best team, thanks to Monday’s victory over second-place team and host Pennsbury.
Junior Eric Schaffer assisted on both goals, including flipping the ball over a defender's head to Herrmann for the game-winner seven minutes into the first overtime period to give Neshaminy the win.
"It was a big win for us," Neshaminy coach Tom Foley said. "We probably didn't play our best game, but we found a way to win, which is a big thing at Pennsbury. It's a big, neighborhood rivalry and both teams usually get up for it. It was nice to get a win and get a couple games clear from everybody in the league right now."
The Redskins scored in the 44th minute when Schaffer found sophomore Dylan McDonald with a throw-in. McDonald found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season and put Neshaminy on top 1-0. The Falcons (3-3-2, 3-2-0) knotted the score on a goal by Alex Kardos with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime.
And in the overtime, it was Herrmann who was the hero, setting off a jubilant celebration after his game-winning goal.
"The kids were really excited,” Foley said. “Everyone piled on in the corner and jumped on Kenny.
"They knew it was a big win. Pennsbury always give us their best and all we can handle. It's always nice to get out of their place with a win. It's a big deal because it sets us up real nice in the league halfway through the schedule."
McDonald wasn't the only Neshaminy player to record his fourth goal of the year on Monday, as Herrmann also notched his fourth tally of the young season.
"Kenny has come up real big for us this year, and he and Dylan have been huge," Foley said. "We were unsure of who was going to score goals for us this year, and they've spread it around and shared the wealth. Kenny was disappointed in our game last Friday (a 2-1 loss to Wissahickon) after he missed a couple shots, but today, he cashed in and it was nice for him to get an overtime goal."

"Their kid buried it on the penalty kick, but I'm proud of my guys. They played great."
