COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 2 (21-25-25-12, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10
The Indians rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn the come-from-behind non-league win. Megan Hanagan had a big night for the Indians at the net, contributing 16 kills and three blocks. Setter Krista Campbell had 40 assists, 14 digs and four aces in a standout effort. Carson Easterly had 11 digs and five aces, and Sam Rowen had 12 digs. Devon Ceslak lad the defense with 26 digs.
For the Bucks, Katie Hudson (15 kills, one ace, seven digs) and Julia Schweibenz (nine kills, two aces, 15 digs) led the way at the net. Setter Kayla King had seven kills, three aces and five digs to go along with 33 assists. Kelly McKinstry led the defense with 31 digs in addition to three aces and one kill. Ashley Juliano added three kills and 12 digs, April Neeld had four kills and Sophie Caffrey added 11 digs.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-8)
Eryn Cleary had a huge serving night for the Titans in their sweep of the Ghosts.
“She helped establish the lead with her serves in game one, serving for almost seven aces,” coach Ulana Keer said. “In game three, she served for almost 14 aces or out-of-system serves.
“Megan Manderson came up big with her serves, serving for 16 out-of-system serves or aces. Larissa Keer came up with six huge digs.”
Taylor Danilowicz and Sarah Poli each had six kills while Manderson had three and Meghan Dunn and Sara Ecklemeyer, two each. Keer credited Brianna Bannach, Danilowicz, Poli and Keer for their serve receive.
“They were challenged by Abington servers but came out strong,” Keer said.
Sarah Ecklemeyer and Meghan Dunn each had one block.
For the Ghosts, Carley Cooper had seven assists, four blocks, eight digs, two kills and one ace. Leah Simmons had five kills, one assist, 13 digs and one ace, and Claire Gassman added three kills, 11 digs and one ace. Jamie Kidd led the defense with 12 digs.
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 2
The Panthers – who already had lost Amber Wood for the season – received word on Monday that standout hitter Jaime Bonner is out for the rest of the season due to an ACL tear and fractured knee.
Despite the loss of their top gun, the Panthers battled.
“Our back row played very well and competed to keep points alive throughout the match,” coach Brian Bassler said.
Sydney Turgyan had 11 kills to lead the Panthers while Alex Koppany had 31 assists. Maddie Richard had 24 digs.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, HATBORO-HORSHAM 2 (24-26, 18-25, 26-24, 25-17, 16-14)
The Hatters opened up a 2-0 lead only to watch the Patriots rally for the come-from-behind win.
For the Hatters, senior Sam Jones dominated at the net with 20 kills while junior Cassidy Quattro added five kills, senior Dymond Black added four kills as well as two blocks. Senior Candyce Riley dished out 31 assists and also added three aces. Sophomore Allison Laucella and junior Christina Ruffin also served three aces. Jones also led the defense with 28 digs, and senior Rachel DeMarco and Laucella both had nine digs.
QUAKERTOWN 3, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-9, 25-11)
The Panthers dropped the first game of Monday’s non-league match but then rolled to wins in the next three. Haley Sheehan (11 kills, six digs, three aces), Amanda Pursel (eight kills, eight digs, two aces) and Katelyn Spieker (six kills, two blocks, one ace) led the way for the Panthers at the net. Lindsay Beck led the defense with 12 digs and six aces. Kerry Vanyo (13 assists, two kills, three aces) and Jen Sterner (12 assists, two kills, four digs, one block) split duties as setters.
Saturday, Sept. 20
UPPER MERION 3, GARNET VALLEY 1 (25-23, 18-25, 25-10, 25-15)
In a battle of unbeatens, Upper Merion survived losing the second set to wear down Garnet Valley in four sets. Emily Shannon and Eryn Brady led the offense with 12 and 13 kills respectively while Carlye Odorisio returned to the lineup from an injury to register 27 assists and 16 service points. Ashley Shannon was outstanding in leading the defense with her 30 digs and solid passing of serve. Emily Shannon had 14 digs and Emma Andraka contributed 12. The blocking improved as the match wore on and was led by Niki Carpenter's three block kills. Carolyn Helenski had 7 kills and Emma Andraka added 5 kills. The victory boosts UM's record to 8-0 as the Lady Vikings head for a 1st place showdown with Upper Dublin on Tuesday night.
STRATH HAVEN 3, PENNSBURY 2 (25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-11)
The Falcons appeared to be in a good position to earn the win after opening up a 2-1 lead in Saturday’s non-league contest only to watch it slip away as Strath Haven won the next two sets.
Elle Patterson turned in a monster 22-kill performance at the net She also had six digs and five aces. Ava Patterson had 11 kills and six digs while Lauren Bransfield had seven kills. Dagny Gould also had six digs while Brandi Sterner had five.
Friday, Sept. 19
HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, ABINGTON 0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-10)
Junior Cassidy Quattro had seven kills and four aces to lead the Hatters. Senior Sam Jones had six kills and five aces. Senior Candyce Riley had four aces and 20 assists. Junior Jaimee Stoczko added four kills and Dymond Black added three. Junior Christine Ruffin had three aces. On defense, senior Rachel deMarco had six digs.
