National Conference
Council Rock South 3, Bensalem 2
Before Monday night, Council Rock South was on the wrong end of five one-goal games. But against Bensalem, it was the Hawks coming out on top by only a goal, winning at Bensalem High School.
Senior Dave Spivey scored the game-winner with less than a minute to play to propel the Golden Hawks to the victory, their second in conference play this season.
"It was a good win," CR South coach Alan Nicholl said. "Any win in this league is tough, so to go into Bensalem on that football field and win was impressive.
“I was concerned with how we were going to perform given the venue, but we managed to crawl back into the game twice. Given that we haven't had a lot of luck, the fact that we got one in our favor was positive."
The Hawks (4-5-0, 2-5-0) trailed 1-0 in the first half and 2-1 in the second half before scoring the game's final two goals to come out victorious. Junior Brent Weinstein and Cole Digney scored the other goals for the Hawks.
The game-winning goal came after Weinstein sent a corner over to Spivey, who capped off a great defensive effort with the difference-making goal.
"Spivey was outstanding today," Nicholl said. "Bensalem has some pretty athletic and excellent players, and they are big and strong physically. I was impressed with Dave on the defensive side all day, and for him to step up in the final minute and put it in the roof of the net with a really, really difficult technique was great. He put it home just when we needed it."
CR South used two goalkeepers in the winning effort as Josh Blaustein replaced Nolan Gaudet in the second half and earned the win.
Bensalem (3-7-0, 2-5-0) received goals from Eddie Farnsworth and Jason Tate.

Neshaminy 3, Abington 0
If Neshaminy needed to further prove that it was the team to beat in the National Conference, it did so on Monday night.
The Redskins went into Abington High School and beat the second-place Ghosts in shutout fashion in a battle of conference rivals.
Neshaminy (11-2-0, 9-0-0) scored all three goals in the first half as Kevin Getz, Kenny Herrmann and Jack McCourt all scored to help the Redskins to the important victory.
"We were very happy (with the win) because we dropped a game on Saturday," said Neshaminy coach Tom Foley, whose team was coming off a OT loss to Downingtown West."We came out with a little bit of a chip on our shoulder, and we played a complete game and dominated from start to finish. It was nice to see them respond to an overtime loss."
The first goal came in only the third minute, but the next two tallies came in the 20th and 25th minutes.
Neshaminy goalkeeper Chris Rush stopped two shots in net to earn the win.
"The defense played exceptionally well," Foley said. "Justin Tobin was our man of the match. He really did a nice job tonight and played the entire game. He did a fantastic job, and he's getting better and better throughout the year and tonight was his best game."
Kevin Getz and Dylan McDonald both drew assists for Neshaminy.
Abington fell to 5-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play with the loss.
With a perfect record in conference play nine games into the schedule, Neshaminy is still looking to improve.
"What we want to concentrate on is playing a full game and 80 minutes every game," Foley said. "We have to do that next against William Tennent, and we want to keep going and build from there and build towards the playoffs. We talk about what it takes to be consistent every game, and tonight was a huge step because we were very, very good."

Continental Conference
Central Bucks East 2, North Penn 1 (OT)
In a classic battle for the conference’s top spot, the Patriots used a goal by Brian Gilligan 4:20 into the first overtime to eke out the win in Monday’s thriller.
“It was a really, really good match between two good teams,” East coach Mike Gorni said. “It’s the same as our last game (a 1-0 East win).
“I thought we were more fortunate to win the last game, but in each game, one team has had the better part of one half, and the other team has had the better of it in the second half. The truth of the matter is either team could have won. It was a good game, and we did enough to get the win. I felt we deserved it.”
The Knights went on top 1-0 when Matt Ammendola turned a cross into a goal, and they took that lead into the intermission.
“North Penn had the better part of play in the first half – they were very good and put a lot of pressure on,” Gorni said.
Midway through the second half, Oleg Polozniakov sent a ball in that was deflected back to the 18 where Vare was waiting.
“He hit a rifle into the far corner,” Gorni said of Vare’s equalizer.
East had the better of play in the second half, but the Knights’ defense held.
In overtime, Vare received a pass from the 30, setting up a sequence that netted the game winner.
“He (Vare) shot it past their goalkeeper from an angle, and it must have just hit the upright,” Gorni said. “Brian Gilligan put in the rebound. He just followed Evan’s shot in, and just finished the shot by putting in the rebound.”
The win, according to Gorni, was a team effort.
“Just about everyone played well tonight,” the Patriots’ coach said. “We got a really good game from Austin Prime in goal.
“Will Eisold, our freshman center back, was terrific. Booker Farrier was terrific, J.R. Eisold – all of them were really good, and obviously, Brian Gilligan and Evan Vare had the most special moments of the night.”
The win gives the Patriots (11-1-0, 9-0-0 SOL) a two-game advantage over second place North Penn (8-3-0, 7-2-0).
“It’s an enormous win because in this league – if North Penn wins tonight, then we’re in a tie for first place,” Gorni said. “Now we’re six points in front of everybody.
“We know there’s still a lot of soccer to be played. There’s still five games in the league in a 14-game schedule, but that win and beating them twice head to head is huge because we know how good they are.
“A win against them is very exciting because we have so much respect for them. It wasn’t a perfectly played game, but it was exciting. There were a lot of ebbs and flows, and all three goals were legit. It was a game I would have rather been a spectator than a coach – I would have rather watched it without the nerves.”
