UPPER DUBLIN 39, WISSAHICKON 0
Kaleif Lee had a lengthy list of people he wanted to credit after Thursday night’s breakout performance.
“Just really my line,” Lee said. “They did the job up front.
“Henry Winebrake, Jack Rapine, Kane O’Connor, Tim Rasmussen, Stacey Gardner and my fullback John Lee. My coaches, and our quarterback, Ryan Stover, for calling good plays.”
And there were plenty of good plays for Lee – who ran for three touchdowns – on Thursday night. He put the Cardinals on the scoreboard in the second quarter with a 42-yard TD run. When quarterback Ryan Stover found Michael Sowers with an 18-yard touchdown pass, the Flying Cardinals led 12-0 heading into halftime.
Lee’s 42-yard touchdown run early in the second half put the Cardinals on top 18-0, and they were on their way to blowing the game wide open.
“I think we made some good adjustments at halftime, and we controlled them up front,” coach Bret Stover said. “Even though they were bigger than we were, we were able to control them and move the ball on the ground.
“We really didn’t throw the ball a whole lot tonight. We were able to control them on the ground, and when you do that, you wear teams down.
‘We hadn’t really gotten the running game going until tonight, and it’s nice to have that complement to the passing game. I thought Larry Cannon – their defensive coordinator – had a nice plan for our passing game. Our adjustment was to go to the run game, and Kaleif ran the best he’s run all year. Hopefully, that’s a steppingstone for him. The sky’s the limit for that kid.”
Lee tacked on a 30-yard TD run, and the Cardinals also received a 56-yard touchdown run from Mike Cottom as well as a 22-yard touchdown run from Phil Butler.
Adding a dangerous running game to an already effective passing game can only make the Cardinals a better team.
“It feels good when we run the ball because when we run the ball and we’re doing good at it, it also opens up the pass game,” Lee said. “Everything runs well when we’re running the ball well.
“I’m only getting better from here, and us as a team, we’re only getting better from here.”
The Trojans, who struggled offensively all night, were without standout running back Josh Smith (injury).
“It’s an entirely different game if he plays, and I told him that after the game, and we know that,” coach Stover said.
The Flying Cardinals (5-1, 3-0 SOL) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh next Friday in battle of the conference’s top squads. Wissahickon (2-4, 1-2) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham Friday.

Martin Worgan’s five-yard touchdown run gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead at the end of one quarter. They led 13-0 before the Hatters got on the scoreboard when Casey Walsh scored on quarterback keeper. The Hatters led 14-13 after Walsh, who threw for 107 yards and two TDs, found Charlie Obrecht with a 16-yard touchdown pass.
The Spartans answered with a pair of third quarter touchdowns. CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 52, NESHAMINY 36
If it’s offense you like, Heartbreak Ridge was the place to be on Thursday night as the two teams combined for 932 yards of total offense. CB South’s Josh Adams delivered what is becoming a routinely excellent 246-yard, four-touchdown performance.
Neshaminy’s D’Andre Pollard had a monster night of his own, accumulating 243 yards and three touchdowns
The star running backs weren’t the only headliners on offense. Neshaminy sophomore quarterback Mason Jones threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns, and South quarterback Kevin Witchey threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Redskin receiver Denzel Hughes hauled in six Jones passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Although the Redskins put up impressive offensive numbers, they couldn’t match the Titans on the scoreboard. South led 14-0 at the end of one quarter and took a 21-7 lead midway through the second quarter. The Redkskins pulled to within 28-22 at halftime, but the Titans scored 10 unanswered points in the third quarter. The Redskins never threatened the rest of the way.
Prior to Thursday’s showdown, the last time CB South and Neshaminy squared off was in the quarterfinals of the 2012 District One AAAA Tournament. The Redskins earned a 14-7 win on South’s home turf in that contest, bringing an end to the Titans’ season. The Titans exacted revenge on Thursday night.
CB South (5-1, 3-0 SOL) will travel to Abington next Friday while the Redskins (2-4, 1-2) will travel to Souderton.

By halftime they led 28-0 and went on to open up a 42-0 lead after three quarters before Souderton running back Koby Klan – after a 34-yard run on the preceding play – took it in from one yard out to break up the Knights’ shutout bid.

QUAKERTOWN 24, HARRY S TRUMAN 21
The Panthers withstood a late game rally by the Tigers to earn the big win that kept them tied with Council Rock North atop the conference standings. The Panthers are 3-0 in Continental Conference play (6-0 overall).
The Panthers opened up a 14-0 lead after a touchdown run by Rob Burns. The Tigers trimmed that lead to 14-6, but a 26-yard field goal by Anthony Soriano as time expired in the first half sent the Panthers into halftime with a 17-6 lead. They took that lead into the fourth quarter when Truman quarterback Mark Lopez-Shefcyk found Justin Fant with a 25-yard touchdown pass to make it a 17-14 game. The Panthers answered with a touchdown drive that culminated with a Nick Bonomo one-yard run to put Quakertown on top 24-14. The big play on the drive was a 49-yard scamper by quarterback Alec Vera.
A seven-yard touchdown run by Truman’s Corey McCloud made it a 24-21 game with just over two minutes remaining, but the Panthers held on for the win.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 15, WILLIAM TENNENT 13
Despite the loss of one key player after another to injury, the Patriots have managed to play teams close. Last Saturday, the never-say-die Patriots rallied from a 46-20 deficit to make it a 46-40 game before falling to Council Rock South.
On Thursday, the Patriots snapped their four-game losing streak with a hard fought win. Jack Lamb – a linebacker until last week’s debut behind center – accounted for East’s only touchdown on a 41-yard run that put the Patriots on top 12-7 at halftime.
East placekicker Oliver Boucher kicked his third field goal to make it a 15-7 game before Tennent’s Dan Costello took it in from 26 yards out. The two-point conversion failed, and the Patriots held on for the win.
The Patriots (2-4, 1-2 SOL) will host Norristown next Friday while the Panthers (2-4, 0-3) will travel to Council Rock South.
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 47, NORRISTOWN 7
The Indians scored early and often and showed that they possess more weapons than Brandon McIlwain.
Chris Welde, who led the Indians with 151 yards rushing, put the Indians on the scoreboard when he returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Then it was Devon Bibbons hauling in a 23-touchdown pass from McIlwain. The Indians led 21-0 after Bibbons returned a punt 50 yards for the score late in the first quarter.
The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the second quarter, and if there was any doubt about the outcome, those doubts were put to rest when the Indians tacked on 13 third-quarter points to go on top 34-7.
McIlwain finished the night with 147 yards in the air and two TDs and 77 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
The Indians (5-1, 3-0 SOL) will travel to Harry S Truman next Saturday while the Eagles (3-3, 1-2) will travel to CB East on Friday.
