Four SOL girls’ soccer teams will be vying for a berth in states when the District One AAA Tournament resumes Tuesday. Check back for a recap of the game.
Tuesday could be a red-letter day for SOL girls’ soccer.
As it stands, four SOL squads will vie for five state berths, and all four have a chance of not only gaining those coveted spots but also playing in Thursday’s district semifinal matches.
Top-seeded Pennsbury will face a Spring-Ford squad that wears the title of defending state runner-up. Last November, the Rams lost to Neshaminy in overtime (2-1) in the state title game. This season, they rebounded from a second place finish in the PAC-10 Liberty Division to defend their PAC-10 Tournament title. Tuesday’s semifinal features a pair of teams with stingy defenses – the Falcons have allowed just eight goals this season while the Rams have given up 11.
Central Bucks East, the tournament’s second seed, will take on 10th-seeded Conestoga in the third game of a tripleheader at War Memorial Field at 7 p.m., following the CB East/Plymouth Whitemarsh boys’ game.
Central Bucks West, the 13th seed, will play the first game of the tripleheader at 3 p.m. against 28th-seeded Owen J Roberts. The Bucks are coming off a 1-0 upset of fourth-seeded Boyertown. The Wildcats, who have found their stride in the playoffs, stunned fifth-seeded Pennridge in an opening round game and followed that with a win over 12th-seeded Plymouth Whitemarsh.
Council Rock South, the 14th seed, will take on 22nd-seeded Great Valley. The Golden Hawks’ defense was golden in shutout wins over #19 Neshaminy (1-0) and #3 Bayard Rustin (2-0). Great Valley upset #11 Garnet Valley and then sent #27 Central Bucks South home for the season.
