HARRY S TRUMAN 59, BENSALEM 56 (OT)
The Tigers dug themselves out of a seven-point halftime hole to earn the hard-fought overtime win.
“It was our defense, and my bigs would not box out,” Truman coach Collette Munford said of her team’s first half woes. “We missed easy, wide open layups, and we had a few turnovers, and it got out of hand before halftime.”
The Tigers also found themselves in serious foul trouble with both their point guards – Daeja Moore and Darnella McMillan – saddled with three fouls.
“One or two of Daeja’s fouls weren’t hers – they ended up being hers, but they were fouls she got because someone else wasn’t stepping up,” Munford said. “Basically, I knew she still had the fire in her, and she wanted to play.
“I said, ‘Look, I’m putting you out there, but you have to stay out of foul trouble.’ She went out there, and she was the spark in the third quarter.”
Moore led the charge as the Tigers outscored the Owls 18-7 in the third quarter to go into the final quarter with a 43-39 lead. The Owls responded with an 11-7 fourth quarter, knotting the score when Samantha Werth buried a three-pointer in the game’s closing seconds.
The Tigers outscored the Owls 9-6 in OT.
“I told them, ‘It shouldn’t have gotten to this point, but you pulled it out. Daeja, you put the team on your back,’ and her spark got everyone up and alive again,” Munford said. “It was an ugly game, but it became exciting, and we pulled it out.”
Moore led the Tigers with 23 points, and Jayda Campbell added 15. Leading the Owls were Werth (13 points), Lyric Lewis (19) and Kelsey Long (14).
The win was the first in league play for the Tigers (5-6, 1-4 SOL) while the Owls fell to 3-8 (0-5 SOL).

SPRINGFIELD-MONTCO 51, HATBORO-HORSHAM 47
The Spartans withstood a late-game rally to eke out a non-league win over a pesky Hatters’ squad.
“I think the biggest thing is we had mental toughness,” Molly Dugan said. “Sometimes we give out in games, we lose our focus and we argue with each other, but today we pulled it all together.
“Even without Jayla (Greene), Bailey (Krewson) did a great job, and we stayed as a team.”
Dugan had the hot hand for the Spartans, finishing with a game-high 17 points that included three three-pointers. She spotted her team an early 6-0 lead with back-to-back treys to open the game, but her biggest bucket came with just under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Spartans on top 47-43. Her three-pointer gave the Spartans a seven-point advantage.
Finding a wide open Dugan for the big shot was Jewell Ringgold, who found herself in a trap in the corner.
“I was thinking, ‘We worked so hard this entire game. I really don’t have an option – it has to go in,’” Dugan said. “It wouldn’t have happened if someone else hadn’t made a great play and got it to me. We all worked together to get the shot. It wasn’t just me.
“We’re always looking out for each to see who’s open, and it worked well.”
The Hatters – who buried 14-of-16 from the foul line – didn’t go down quietly. Haley Seifert buried a pair from the foul line to make it a five-point game, and after the Spartans misfired on the front end of a one-and-one, Rachel Helton sank a short jumper to make it a 50-47 game with 30 seconds remaining.
With 23 seconds remaining, Bailey Krewson sank the first of two foul shots, giving the Spartans a 51-47 lead.
“I just settled and had to think of it as practice,” Krewson said of her game-clinching shot.
A pair of Hatter shots came up short as time was winding down, and the Spartans came away with the big win.
The Spartans – minus point guard Jayla Greene – received a huge boost from Krewson, who contributed 10 points and several important steals.
“She had her head in it and played a hard, tough game,” coach Bill Krewson said. “She was our point guard last year, and without (Greene), it was still nice to see what Bailey can still do as a point guard.”
Her steal on the Hatters’ inbound at midcourt to open the second half and the ensuing layup by Jewell Ringgold put the Spartans on top 25-19.
“I just tried to get the ball back so we had possession and could be on top and win,” Krewson. “I just knew that I had to step up. Missing Jayla was huge, but we just had to bring it together.”
The Hatters – despite battling foul problems – displayed a resiliency that should serve them well.
“Everyone is getting more comfortable playing together,” said Haley Seifert, who led a balanced attack with 12.
Twice in the opening half the Hatters trailed by six. They still trailed by eight (29-21) early in the third quarter but closed out the frame with a 15-4 tear. Amanda Brett, who scored all 11 of her points in the second and third quarters, sparked the rally with seven points in the frame. Her bucket just inside the arc with 25 seconds remaining sent the Hatters into the final quarter with a 36-33 lead.
“Amanda had a good all-around game,” Hatters’ coach Kathie Sims said.
Springfield came back to take a 47-39 lead after Dugan buried a pair at the foul line with 2:48 remaining in regulation. Seifert and Bergen Sims both sank a pair from the foul line to make it a 47-43 game only to watch Dugan connect for a trey that was the back breaker.
“It was a team effort,” coach Krewson said. “All around – everybody contributed. Even the girls off the bench came in strong and contributed.
No one’s head left the game. One of the biggest things for our team is to keep everyone’s head in the entire game and think that they’re involved and doing something. As long as you do that, that’s when we’re more successful. We’ve been successful when everyone gets involved. That’s what I live for – when they’re all involved.”
While the Spartans upped their record to 6-5 overall (2-2 SOL), the Hatters are 4-6 overall (1-3).
“I just think their confidence is coming up,” Sims said. “They’re working hard.
“We’re taking steps, we’re making small strides.”
