A pair of SOL girls’ basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end on Friday night.
#2 POPE JOHN PAUL II 74, #7 SPRINGFIELD-MONTCO 53
The Spartans ran into a Golden Panther squad that looked every bit the part of its second seed. The Panthers led 23-12 after one quarter and took a 37-24 lead into halftime. They added to that lead in the third quarter before the Spartans outscored their hosts 22-18 in the final frame.
Molly Dugan (19 points) and Maura Ryan (18 points) had big nights for the Spartans. Jayla Greene added eight.
The Spartans closed out their season with an 11-12 record overall (6-8 SOL).

#10 PERKIOMEN VALLEY 32, #15 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 27
The Indians played inspired defense in the first quarter, forcing the Vikings into an 0-for-10 shooting performance. That was the good news.
The bad news was they held just a 5-0 lead, thanks to some serious offensive struggles of their own. The Indians – on the heels of a 1-for-14 first quarter in their loss to Central Bucks West Tuesday – connected on just 2-of-12 shots in the opening frame.
Rock North scored only two points in the second quarter while the Vikings came to life, outscoring their hosts 14-2 to go into halftime with a 14-7 lead. They added to that lead in the third quarter and went into the final frame with a 25-15 lead before the Indians staged a late rally.
For the game, the Indians connected on just 11-of-44 shots (25 percent), and they also struggled from the foul line where they made just 3-of-8 shots. Throw in the fact that they turned the ball over 16 times, and it added up to a disappointing season-ending loss.
Jessica Gerber led the Indians with eight points while Becca Margolis had six. KT Armstrong led the Vikings with 16 points.
Rock North closed out its season with a 16-8 record (11-3 SOL).
