ABINGTON 16, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 12
Sparked by the standout offensive performance of Sam McGee, the Ghosts continued their impressive early season showing with a non-league win over the Bucks. McGee had a hand in nine goals, scoring six and contributing three assists. She also had four draw controls.
Senior Jeannie Van Buren had four goals and three draw controls. Mikki Raymond added two goals to go along with seven draw controls. She led the defense with five caused turnovers.
Also for the Ghosts, Casey Mcallister added two goals and one assist. Rachel Morris and Lindsay Baer each had one goal. Morris also had two ground balls.
For the Bucks, Jacq Fitzgerald scored five goals and Bryn Boylan added three goals and two assists. Meghan Tillger and Maddie Maio both added a goal and an assist. Maio also had three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
“Maddie Maio had an excellent game for us,” West coach Tara Schmucker said. “She gave us a lot of spark and hustle on both ends.”
Elle Ueland and Finley Ueland each had one goal.
“We had a 6-3 lead in the beginning, but with only winning 34 percent of the draws and Abington capitalizing off the draw quickly, we had difficulty maintaining the lead and getting it back,” Schmucker said. “We did tie it up in the second half with about 18 minutes left, but turnovers and a lack of possession continue to be an issue for us, and Abington had a lot of intensity today and went on draw control runs at key moments. I was happy to see the girls fight back, but we need to make better decisions when the game gets tight and legs get tired.”
In goal, Micaela Murcar turned away seven shots for the Ghosts while West goalie Molly Naylor was credited with nine saves.
“Molly had some key saves for us,” Schmucker said. “We will continue to improve and hopefully come back stronger as we enter league play next week.”
PENNRIDGE 13, QUAKERTOWN 1
The Lady Rams controlled Monday’s non-league game against their neighboring rivals. Maddie Dachowski led the way with five goals and one assist. Jen Rodezwich had three goals, two assists and seven draw controls while Grace Loughery contributed two goals, five assists and three draw controls. Devin Rimmer had one goal and three draw controls. Jess Csaszar added a goal and assist, and Kate Ziegler had one goal.
“(We were) very patient and smart on attack,” coach Karen Schnurr said. “Attack took their time and executed the plays, and it resulted in a goal.
“The girls are beginning to trust each other and be confident with moving the ball. Midfield transition is something our team works on every day at practice, and it shows in our games. We respect the other team and their program.”
