Unfazed by the cold weather, the Falcons celebrated Senior Night by stunning the visiting Maidens at Falcon Field.
“It was awesome,” coach Christie Cooper said. “We haven’t been full strength since before our Pennridge game.
“We’ve had concussions, pulled hamstring and bronchitis. This was our first game where we had almost every single person back. It was Senior Night so they had an added chip on their shoulders. They were just excited to be playing back together again. This is the potential they’ve had all season. We just haven’t been healthy. It was so awesome to see them play so well for a complete game.”
Back in the lineup for the Falcons were Sarah Benzinger, who recovered from a pulled hamstring, and Anna Cruser, back after a bout with bronchitis.
The Falcons opened up a 6-4 halftime lead over a Maiden squad that had fallen by one goal in the final seconds to defending conference champion Souderton on Tuesday night. They added to that lead in the second half, outscoring the Maidens 4-2.
A key to the win was the performance of the Falcons’ defense.
“Our goalie played great,” Cooper said of junior Kayla Kunde, who turned away nine shots. “She just started playing lacrosse last year. She was a soccer goalie – she has that mentality, and she’s not afraid of the ball, and she’s come a long way.
“She played out of her mind tonight.”
The Falcons’ coach also lauded the defensive effort of senior Keir Degnan.
“She anchored the defense tonight – she usually does, but she was just really all over the place,” Cooper said.
Missy Frankil’s five-goal effort led the Falcons’ attack. Camille Mumford added one goal and one assist while Lindsay Labiak had a pair of goals. Scoring single goals were Cruser and Morgan Snyder while Lily Nolan had an assist.
With the win, the Falcons improved to 4-1 in conference play with their only loss coming at the hands of Pennridge last week.
“We still have almost all our league games against the top teams,” Cooper said. “There’s no reason why we can’t compete or beat anyone we play.
“Beating North Penn gives the girls confidence that we’re back, we’re at full strength, and when they play well together and execute, they can beat anybody.”
For Cooper – herself a Souderton grad, the win was especially sweet.
“Beating North Penn is always awesome – it doesn’t matter what you’re playing,” the Falcons’ coach said.
For the Maidens, Emily Schulze scored four goals while Sydney Lear and Bri O’Donnell each had one goal.
North Penn 4-2—6
Pennsbury 6-4—10

“We struggled to hold off #19 and #17 and allowed them to dictate the game,” Pennridge coach Karen Schnurr said of Bulgier and Lambeth. “The defense stepped up to shut them down with double teams, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to hold them off.
“Playing two powerhouses back to back takes a lot out of a team, but it also shows how much my team will fight till the end. We could have called it a game when they got up, but Pennridge lacrosse is all about fighting back and playing till the whistle. This team is focused and ready to come out with wins the rest of the season.”
Pennridge goalie Carley Wingate turned away seven shots.
