COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 5, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 4
Hannah Stalker delivered a clutch two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh to propel the Indians to the dramatic win.
“It’s so exciting, and it’s such a momentum builder because we’ve had so many games in a row,” said coach Chris McDermott, whose team was coming off a win over William Tennent on Thursday. “I think it really, really helped the team to have two wins in a row for us.
“We’re still leaving a little too many runners on base. We’re fighting for every win, and it was exciting to win this way. CB East was a very well-coached and athletic team.”
Setting the stage for Stalker’s game winning triple was Sabrina Crane, who picked up her third hit of the game to lead off the seventh. The streaking Crane, according to McDermott, has 14 hits in her last 16 official plate appearances.
One out later, Elyse McMenamin drew a walk. A fielder’s choice advanced both runners, and with two outs, Stalker delivered in a big way with her two-run triple to the fence in left center.
The big win might not have happened had it not been for back-to-back highlight reel catches by leftfielder Mallory Pollack and centerfielder Marisa Gergel in the top of the sixth with the Patriots on top 4-3.
“It was one of those situations where they were ahead, and they would have gotten momentum from either one of those plays,” McDermott said. “The first batter hit a shot to center field – I thought it was going over for a home run. (Gergel) went back on it and caught it over her head – it was gorgeous.
“The next batter hit a shot to left field right along the line. Mallory was playing towards center because of the last hit, and she came flying over, dove with her hand out and caught it. Those two plays killed momentum. They were big plays. The outfielders are kind of the unsung heroes.”
Earlier, the two teams exchanged single runs with the Patriots taking a 1-0 lead in the first and the Indians knotting the score in the third. A three-run fifth inning by the Patriots was highlighted by Megan Cloran’s two-run triple. Cloran scored on Darien Dempsey’s single, and East led 4-1.
But not for long. The Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 game and went on to win it in the seventh.
Elyse McMenamin threw the last four innings and earned the win, allowing two hits and three runs while fanning four. Amanda Camp started and threw three innings, allowing one hit and one run (unearned) while striking out two.
The Indians improved to 4-3 overall (3-2 SOL) while the Patriots are 7-6 overall (5-3 SOL). Rock North, which has four games next week, returns to action Saturday when it will host Villa Joseph Marie.

NORTH PENN 2, PARKLAND 1 (9 innings)
The Maidens knocked Parkland from the ranks of the undefeated, winning in dramatic fashion when Jovonna Alfonsi roped a two-out home run over the left center field fence in the ninth inning.
“It’s an awesome win,” coach Rick Torresani said. “The girls came in knowing that Parkland made it into the final four of the state playoffs last year, and their only loss was in that semifinal state game.
“They had no close games at all this year – most of their games were 10-run or they won by five or six runs.”
Jackie Bilotti earned the complete game win, allowing seven hits and one run while walking one and striking out two.
“Jackie pitched another great game,” Torresani said. “
The Maidens got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Bilotti drew a base on balls, and her courtesy runner, Lauren Schwartz, eventually scored on a wild pitch. Parkland got that run back in the top of the seventh, but Alfoni delivered the game winner in the ninth.
“Hers was a line drive shot over the fence in left center field,” Torresani said. “There was no doubt about it as soon as it left the bat.
“(Alfonsi) said she needed to do it because when they scored their run on a hit, our outfield threw a bee bee home, and she dropped it.”
Bilotti collected two of the Maidens’ five hits.
North Penn upped its record to 9-2 overall (5-2 SOL).

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 11, WISSAHICKON 1 (5 innings)
The Bucks rebounded from a 15-2 loss to Quakertown 24 hours earlier to defeat the Trojans in an abbreviated five-inning contest.
“Obviously, we’re happier today than yesterday,” coach Jim Taylor said. “I thought this was a game we should be competitive in, and I really wanted us not to be down from the game yesterday.
“It was tough (after) beating Quakertown the first time, but we had a lot of opportunities even yesterday. The offense is coming around. We had a little bit of a run where the offense wasn’t doing anything, but we had two runners on base every inning but one yesterday. It really wasn’t all negative yesterday, and we wanted to carry that over.
“We needed to bounce back. Our 3-1 start got everyone pumped up. We got a little bit of reality, but we’re better than what we played, and we got back to that a little today.”
Angelina Sherba earned the win in the circle.
“She did a great job today,” Taylor said. “She was battling a little bit of an injury, and she didn’t have her full repertoire of pitches.
“She did great – really battled and got us to the point where we had a big lead, and our senior Alex Kaminski – who has been an unbelievable teammate, pitched every game for us last year – came in and struck out two people and got the third out in the fifth inning.
“Kudos to her as well. She’s been a great teammate and a great player to have on our team. She’ll get more opportunities between now and the end. I’m glad she got in there today. We needed that. I’m happy for everyone.
“When expectations are raised, the losses hurt more. It’s been a rough couple of weeks for us. We’re better than we showed yesterday, and we’re just looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Early on, the game gave signs that it could come down to the wire. The two teams exchanged runs in the first, and neither team scored in the second. The Bucks took a 2-1 lead in the third, and sparked by a two-run double by freshman Casey Taylor, they tacked on three runs in the fourth to go on top 5-1.
A six-run fifth inning was highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Julia Perez. Perez was the lone West player with two hits as eight different players contributed a hit in the Bucks’ nine-hit effort.
“It was a pretty good team effort,” Taylor said. “We looked at the calendar, and I don’t think we’ve had two outdoor practices where we could actually run on the infield.
“I’m hoping Monday is going to be that day and then get us focused for the second half of the season.”
The Bucks improved to 4-7 overall (2-5 SOL) while the Trojans are 4-5 overall (3-3 SOL).

Cheltenham broke up Kalisi Taufelele’s shutout bid with a single run in the fourth, but Tennent tacked on two runs in the top of the fifth for the 14-1 final.
Marissa Govan was 3-for-4 with a triple to lead the visitors. Jackie Heim was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in a productive day at the plate. Jocelyn Flores was 2-for-3 with a home run, and Sara Keeny was 1-for-3 with a home run.

The Titans scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but the rest of the game belonged to the Indians, who answered with eight runs in the bottom of the first and then tacked on two in both the third and fourth innings to bring an early end to Friday's game.
Angie Carty had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 to lead the Indians. She also had three RBIs and scored two runs. Dayna Shelly was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored, and Savannah Bostwick was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Alex Scheeler was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
