NESHAMINY 4, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0
Call this one a statement win.
In a game that figured to be a battle until the final horn between last year’s conference co-champions, the Redskins controlled play from start to finish.
“It was super exciting,” Neshaminy coach Caitlin Koczynski said. “We were just so excited to play – we were on our home field, it’s the end of the week.
“We were excited to play, and we came out and worked as a team. We found the back of the net, and that’s sometimes hard to do. Today it seemed like we were finding it. It was definitely a team effort.”
The Redskins’ teamwork was underscored by the fact that four different players scored.
“We worked the ball up and down the field as a team,” Koczynski said.
It was Christen Pennington who put the Redskins on the scoreboard at the 13:58 mark of the first half, using a Mia Sexton assist. A goal late in the half by Abby Geisler (Sexton assist) sent the Redskins into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
Although the Redskins didn’t need insurance, they added a pair of goals in the second half. Maria Palmieri turned a pass from teammate Elayna Curtin into a goal and a 3-0 lead midway through the half, and a goal by Amanda Blum (Palmieri assist) with less than five minutes remaining gave the Redskins their final margin of victory.
Koczynski credited her defense – anchored by Elana Donato, Gianna Arena, Abby Bedesem and Amanda Blum – for a stellar showing in the shutout win.
“They didn’t have one shot – they had four corners, but they didn’t get any shots,” the Redskins’ coach said.
“My defense was pumped and ready to go,” she said. “They came out strong, and they stepped up.
“It was definitely a team effort. North is a great team. It was a fun game to watch. Both teams are so skilled.”

“She and Maura O’Leary had a breakaway opportunity that resulted in the lone goal. They executed exactly as we had practiced.”
Flangan’s goal was all the Golden Bears would need as they held on for a shutout.
“Emily Jeinnings played extremely well,” Grossi said. “She had a defensive save with less than five minutes left on one of Springfield’s corner opportunities.
“She did an excellent job in the midfield, playing strong defense and transitioning the ball to the attacking end.”

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 6, UPPER DUBLIN 1
The Colonials rebounded from a disappointing loss at Wissahickon to turn in a strong outing in Friday’s big win.
Frankie O’Brien scored her first of two goals during corner play less than four minutes into the game, and with seven minutes remaining in the half, Sophie Kolkka scored to send PW into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The Colonials tacked on four more goals in the second half before the Flying Cardinals got on the scoreboard with 2:17 remaining when Jess Grodsky (Marlee Siegel assist) found the cage. Paige Toten had a pair of second half goals for PW while O’Brien and Kennedy Reardon added single goals. Kerin Bechtel had an assist.
“Frankie and midfielder Aurora Mills did a great job controlling the middle of the field, and Sophie was excellent at creating scoring opportunities from the right side,” coach Marianne Paparone said. “Side backs Kolby Bechtel and Sami Mangine played a strong game on defense.
“For PW, it was a step in the right direction, but I believe we have not yet played to our true potential. We did a good job of capitalizing on scoring opportunities and limiting UD’s time of possession in our defensive end, especially since they have some very quick forwards, but there are still lots of things we need to work on. UD, as always, fought to the end and prevented a shutout.”
The Colonials held an advantage in shots (26-4) and corners (12-3).
Plymouth Whitemarsh (3-2, 3-1 SOL) will host Springfield on Monday, and Upper Dublin (1-4, 1-3) will be at home against Upper Merion.
