NORTH PENN 13, PARKLAND 11
The Maidens rebounded from a disappointing outing on Thursday in a loss to CB West to earn the non-league road win, but it wasn’t easy.
North Penn took a 6-3 lead into halftime only to watch Parkland open the second half with four unanswered goals to go on top 7-6. The Maidens regrouped and went on top 12-8 with seven minutes remaining, but again the Trojans came roaring back, scoring three straight goals to make it a 12-11 game. Bri O’Donnell found the net with two minutes remaining, and that 13-11 score held the rest of the way.
“Once again, the game came down to draw controls,” coach Heather Mellow said. “When we were winning them, we would go ahead.
“Our offense did a nice job of taking care of the ball tonight. Defensively, we were a little more aggressive, put pressure on the ball and came up with some nice turnovers.”
O’Donnell had a huge game to lead the Maidens, finishing with five goals and two assists. Kaitlyn Phifer had two goals and two assists, and Jenn DeLongis, Julia Keffer and Chloe Novak each added two goals and one assist.
Michelle Dyck was credited with nine saves in a winning effort in goal.
“Michelle had a nice game in goal, which helped,” Mellow said. “We still have areas we can improve upon, but it was a good overall team effort.”
