Neshaminy, Abington & Pennsbury were winners in SOL boys’ basketball on Thursday. Check out the recaps.
NESHAMINY 46, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 40
As wins go, they don’t get much bigger than Thursday night’s win over Rock South for a Redskin squad intent on advancing to districts for the first time in six years.
“This was definitely a big, big game for us,” coach Mark Tingle said. “Going into the week, when the seedings came out, we were the last team in.
“We played a tough game at Truman the other night and got the win. South beat us by 15 the last time, but it was definitely a closer game. This was probably our best win as far as a statement-type win this season.
“This week has been good, and hopefully, we’re peaking at the right time. We still have three games left. I think these kids are really believing in a new attitude, a new era, which is good.”
The Redskins received a pair of big performances from Chris Arcidiacono and Zach Tredway. Both scored 15 points. Arcidiacono added six rebounds and four assists, and Tredway also had six rebounds.
“Tonight was good because Chris Arch has had to do so much, and finally other people have stepped up,” Tingle said. “Zach Tredway had a big game for us, which is good. We rely too much on Chris, and it’s good to see others step up when we need it.”
The Redskins, who led 13-11 after one quarter, took a 24-22 lead into halftime. Tredway had nine first-half points to lead the ‘Skins. Neshaminy led by just one heading into the final quarter (36-35). They limited the Golden Hawks to just five points in the fourth quarter while they scored 10 – eight by Arcidiacono.
Austin Thomas led the Golden Hawks with 12 points, and Alex Nordenholt had eight. Christian Jabbar and Trey Irvin each added six.
Neshaminy (8-11, 4-8 SOL) will travel to William Tennent for a non-league game on Saturday, and Council Rock South (13-8, 7-4) will be on the road at Abington on Tuesday.
