PENNSBURY 32, BENSALEM 18
On the heels of a 21-point performance against Truman on Tuesday, Cami Wiegand had another big offensive outing, scoring 20 points to lead the Falcons to Thursday’s win.
The sophomore guard’s performance loomed large in light of the offensive struggles by both sides. The Falcons actually trailed 5-2 after one quarter and still found themselves on the short end of a 12-11 score at the intermission. Wiegand accounted for nine of Pennsbury’s 11 points in the half.
Wiegand scored 11 points in a second half that saw the Falcons outscore their hosts 21-6.
“Bensalem had the team’s best defensive game of the entire year – the only problem, at the same time, the team had the season’s worst offensive game,” Bensalem coach Don Bogan said. “The Falcons held the Owls to six second-half points.
“Every time we take two steps forward, something happens and we take three steps back. Our defense worked hard tonight, but the offense was dead. We are due to have a complete game. We cut down the turnovers, but we shot about 27 percent from the field. The girls played hard to the end.”
Emily Wineburg’s seven points led the Owls. Sydney Buell added six points for the Falcons.
Pennsbury (8-8, 4-4 SOL) will host Abington on Tuesday, and Bensalem (3-9, 0-6) will host William Tennent on Saturday at 2 p.m.

CHELTENHAM 46, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 41
Sparked by the torrid offensive showing of Savannah Roberts, the Lady Panthers opened up a 21-5 lead after one quarter. Roberts accounted for 13 of those points, which included three 3-pointers.
Cheltenham took a 30-13 lead into halftime and appeared to be on its way to a cakewalk, but the Spartans had other ideas, outscoring the Lady Panthers 28-16 in the second half before falling by five.
If Roberts owned the first half, Springfield’s Grace Barraclough owned the second, erupting for 16 of her game-high 23 points after the intermission. Barraclough scored 12 points in the third quarter.
“Grace Barraclough was not feeling well, and she dropped 23 tonight. Not too bad for feeling sick,” Springfield coach Dave Giordano said.
According to the first-year coach, the young Spartans – with just one senior on their roster – are starting to come together.
“The last week or two it’s just starting to click as far as – they don’t put their heads down, they keep working hard, they’re getting better and better defensively, they’re looking to be more offensively-oriented, they’re looking for each other,” Giordano said. “It’s going to happen soon, I can feel it, and I couldn’t be prouder of the effort.
“Everyone who played contributed something. They all played well defensively, which is really the key because they created a lot of fast break opportunities for themselves, and they kept attacking the basket and they adjusted on the fly in certain situations. I really can see the progress, and I think they’re starting to, too. We just need to get some Ws.”
Also for the Spartans, Rileigh Serroni had nine points.
Roberts led the Lady Panthers with 16 points while Kai Williams had 11. Courtney Murray contributed nine points, and Taylor Johnson had seven.
Cheltenham (8-5, 3-3 SOL) will host Upper Dublin on Friday, and Springfield Township (2-9, 1-5) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham on Friday.
