Non-league
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 44, BRISTOL 37
Rileigh Serroni scored 16 points and Grace Barraclough contributed 15 to lead the Spartans to the non-league win.
“Between Rileigh Serroni having a nice night and Grace being her steady contributor – I was happy for Rileigh because she kind of broke out of it a little bit,” coach Dave Giordano said. “She’s been squeezing the ball a little too tight.
“It was a little bit of a battle, but we’re happy with it. The girls deserve all the credit.”
The Spartans got off to a slow start, scoring just two points in the first quarter. They trailed by nine. They turned the tables on the visiting Warriors in the second quarter, going on an 18-2 tear to go into halftime with a 20-13 lead. The two teams exchanged baskets in the second half.
“We had a slow start again tonight, but they continued to work hard, especially defensively,” Giordano said. “They’ve all been working hard defensively which has turned into a boatload of good offensive chances. We just haven’t finished, and tonight we finally clicked in the second quarter. It carried us through. We closed out nice. We took care of the basketball at the end.”
Also for the Spartans, Emily Guicheteau had seven points and Mary Kate Smith, six points.
