COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 5, BENSALEM 0
Rock South celebrated its three seniors – Mackenzie Marino, Devon Bradley Makenna Diamond – during a special Senior Day contest.
Marino made sure it was memorable, throwing a complete game shutout. She allowed just three hits while striking out two and walking three.
The Golden Hawks got on the scoreboard in the first when Danielle Walters, who tripled, scored on a fielder’s choice. In the second, Ally Kirschner led off with a single, and one out later, Bradley smashed a two-run home run. Walters also singled and scored, giving the Golden Hawks a 4-0 lead. The Golden Hawks tacked on a run in the fourth, thanks to a Marino RBI single.
“Bensalem is tough – they played us tough the first time around,” Rock South coach Frank Marino said. “I knew they were going to come in – you never know what to expect. They’re gritty, of course, and well-coached.
“I told the girls – we don’t lose on Senior Night, and they responded, which is good. We started the season 2-2, and in our last 13 games since, we’re 11-2. We went on a good tear, and we have a few games left to close it out.”
Walters was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Bradley was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Marino 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Council Rock South (13-4, 7-3 SOL) will travel to Neshaminy on Tuesday, and Bensalem (6-10, 2-8) will host Methacton in a non-league game on Friday.
