SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 2, PENNSBURY 1
Midway through the second half, Anna Wojeck scored with an assist from Kate Wojeck during corner play, breaking a 1-1 tie. The visiting Spartans – who scored both of their goals on penalty corners – held on for the win.
Earlier, the Spartans took a 1-0 lead into halftime, thanks to a goal by Kate Wojeck with assists from Maddie Yoder and Anya Kochanowicz.
“Pennsbury came out a bit slowly in the first half, allowing Springfield to dominate and beat them to the ball,” Pennsbury coach Traci Curtis said. “Following halftime, the Falcons perked up a bit and tied the game on a great quick free hit from midfield by Sophia Hitchingham into the circle and a deflection from right wing Kayli Williams.
“Hitchingham played it smart and took the hit very quickly, and Kayli was in the perfect place inside the circle to touch it into goal. Williams’ spark lasted a long time as Pennsbury began to dominate the offense for another 10 minutes but couldn’t capitalize.”
The Spartans scored the go-ahead goal with 13 minutes remaining, and although the Falcons had opportunities, they could not find the cage.
“We are still struggling with creating an abundance of offensive chances and finishing fully,” Curtis said. “(We) were also punched in the gut with a deserved yellow card that put us a player down for the final five minutes of play.”
Curtis lauded the play of her defensive unit.
“Senior captain Casey Glynn once again came through strongly in the middle with big hits and stops,” the Falcons’ coach said. “Hannah Aker guided the ball and distributed out of the circle incredibly well, and Sammie Tosh stepped up with multiple interceptions giving an offensive push out of the backfield.
“Nicole Joniak was another extremely strong force, notching a beautiful defensive save. Goalie Keira Korzeb had many great saves and handled the pressure situations with her defense very well.
“Despite an 0-3 start, the Falcons continue to grow and progress and take away new lessons from every game. Each day is an opportunity to start anew, and as they build their program from the inside out, Pennsbury will continue to write their story with heart, grit, and a love for the game.”
Srpingfield goalie Rebecca Berglund was credited with four saves in the win.
Springfield Township (2-1, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Wissahickon on Tuesday, and Pennsbury (0-3, 0-1) will host Bensalem Tuesday.
Springfield Township 1-1 2

Midway through the half, Hussie found Emma Larkin for a goal that sent the Patriots into halftime with a 4-0 lead.
