PENNSBURY 66, MEDFORD TECH 63 (OT)
With 10 seconds remaining in overtime, senior captain Kyrie Miller buried a pair at the foul line, giving the Falcons a three-point lead that held until the final whistle in Saturday’s Capital City Cancer Classic at Trenton Catholic.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Falcons, who buried 24-of-46 shots (52 percent) and connected on 11 three-pointers.
“We made shots, and our effort was pretty consistent,” Pennsbury coach Bill Coleman said. “We’ve been getting down on ourselves a lot.
“Our team is based upon defense, but when the guys don’t make shots, they kind of get down on themselves, and they stop defending. Today we made shots, we were able to defend and get through the entire game with the consistent level of effort we’ve been looking for.”
Leading the offensive charge for the Falcons were Shane Simmons (19 points), Collin Connor (18 points) and BaShaun Glover (11 points). Connor connected on five three-pointers and Simmons four. Simmons earned MVP honors for the game and accepted the trophy from former professional basketball player Greg Grant, who starred at The College of New Jersey.
“Collin carried us in the first half, a combination of Collin and Shane in the second half with a solid contribution from BaShaun Glover throughout the course of the game, and Kyrie hit two big free throws to seal it there in overtime,” Coleman said. “I was hoping we would be able to find our identity sooner and be confident in who we were, but we ask a lot with the way we defend.
“We defend in your face for 32 minutes and put a lot of pressure on teams, and everyone knows it. This group wants to play that way, but they were getting a little bummed out by the lack of shot making, and it carried over to the rest of the game. Today they were able to fight through it on their own and defend for the whole game. It was fun to watch.”
The Falcons, who trailed 33-31 at the intermission, outscored Medford Tech 17-13 in the third quarter to go on top 48-46 heading into the final
frame.
“We did have a turnover at the end of regulation that led to them being able to tie the game, but we were able to fight through it and pull it out in overtime,” Coleman said. “I was very proud of our defense today. They did have one kid (Yasir Fowler) that on our scouting report was able to hit threes, and he was on fire. We adjusted our defense in the second half, and we limited him to one basket in the second half.”
Simmons and Evan Reichard led the Falcons under the backboards with nine rebounds each. Glover had seven. Reichard also had five assists. Amir Johnson added seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
Fowler, who connected on 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, led Medford with 20 points.
Pennsbury (3-6 1-3 SOL) will host Neshaminy on Tuesday.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 50, UPPER DUBLIN 47
The visiting Golden Hawks opened up a 31-20 halftime lead and withstood a Flying Cardinal comeback to earn the bounce-back win.
“Last night was really disappointing losing to Tennent at home, and to come back the next day really shows the resolve of our kids, which is important,” Rock South coach Chris Clark said. “I was really happy to see that. It really says a lot about our kids – how much they care.
“We still have a long way to go when it comes to special situations at the end of games, how to finish close games – we still have a problem with that, but I was really happy for us.”
The Golden Hawks were led by the trio of Jack Rebholz (16 points), Michael Stewart (16 points) and Kevin McNamee (11 points).
“Michael made some shots in the first half, which got us the lead, and Jack got to the free throw line quite a bit in the second half,” Clark said. “Kevin was really steady. He played as hard as he could on (Drew) Stover inside, and he finished inside on the offensive end. He’s really played a lot better. He’s much more consistent.”
Stover scored 14 of UD’s 20 first-half points and added 10 more in the second half.
“We had to change defenses – their big kid was hurting us,” Clark said. “He really played well. We tried to change things up, and that seemed to work for a while.”
The Golden Hawks, who scored just six points in the third quarter, were outscored 27-19 in the second half but made the shots they needed to notch the win.
“In the second half, for the most part, we hung together,” Clark said. “Our third quarter we didn’t shoot that well, we didn’t have much flow or rhythm on offense.
“The fourth quarter I thought it got better. We got to the foul line more, which helped us. They kept coming at us, and they’re just a lot bigger than us, which most teams are. We hung in there and at the end made just enough free throws.”
For Upper Dublin, Amare Johnson added nine points on three three-pointers. Jason Williams had six.
Council Rock South (9-5, 3-2 SOL) will travel to Council Rock North on Tuesday, and Upper Dublin (5-6, 1-4) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 43, CRESTWOOD 39
Crestwood was a late addition to West’s schedule, and it turned out to be well worth the two-hour trip to Mountain Top as the Bucks knocked off a Comet squad that had just lost one game.
“We picked this game up in August – we really needed a game,” West coach Adam Sherman said. “We heard they were good. I believe they were 10-1 going into this game, and they were very good. We were able to pull one out at the end.”
The two teams were deadlocked 26-26 at the intermission. The Bucks took a 37-34 lead into the final quarter.
“We really were able to get some good quality stops in the second half,” Sherman said. “For us to hold them to 13 points in the second half I thought was huge.
“They’re a high tempo type of offense. They push the ball down really quickly, and they got us with transition buckets in the first half. I thought we did a really good job in the second half of taking away their transition baskets.”
Mika Munari led the Bucks with 18 points, which included a 5-for-5 effort at the foul line. Jack Neri added 10 points and seven rebounds. Teddy Spratt had nine points and eight rebounds. All three made important contributions down the stretch.
“It really was a team effort, but Jack Neri had a huge bucket, Mika had a huge play, and Teddy Spratt hit a huge three that was big for us in the second half,” Sherman said.
Danny Miller was a force in the paint, contributing seven rebounds and two blocks in a win that will certainly help West in the district rankings.
“This is a huge win for us,” Sherman said. “There’s a good chance come February when the seeding meeting takes place that a team like Crestwood could easily be 18-4 or 20-2.”
Central Bucks West (10-4, 3-2 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South Tuesday for an 8 p.m. contest.

CHELTENHAM 75, DOWNINGTOWN WEST 71
The Panthers – who had a lead for much of the game – found themselves trailing by two with four minutes remaining. They made the shots when it mattered and eked out the non-league win.
“We fought back,” Cheltenham coach Patrick Fleury said. “We were up 14 in the third, and we needed to be a little more aggressive, and they were able to capitalize on some of our missed shots and mistakes.
“They got to the line and were able to convert. We had a good spurt at the end of the fourth where we were able to take the lead and make a couple of free throws and from there pretty much controlled it.”
Jaelen McGlone led the Panthers with a glittering 29-point effort. Justin Moore added 13 points and also had 12 assists and only three turnovers. Moore was 4-for-8 from the field and 5-for-7 from the foul line.
“He just controlled the game,” Fleury said. “The kid had an all-around game. If you look at 13 points and 12 assists and they’re all two-pointers, which they’re not, that’s 24 points along with his 13, so that’s 27-30 points right there.
“Mike McClain hit a big three for us in the fourth quarter – we were up two, and he hit a three to put us up five.”
Also for the Panthers, Sean Emfinger had 11 points, Mike McClain added eight and Brandon Scott had six.
Will Howard led the Whippets with 24 points.
“They’re a very good team,” Fleury said. “Coach Stuart Ross is very good – I respect him a lot. They made plays down the stretch. I think they’re 5-6 right now, but you can tell it’s just a couple of possessions and they could easily be 9-3 or whatever the case might be. They’re a good team. We’re happy with this win. It was a good game.”
Cheltenham (12-1, 6-0 SOL) will travel to Malvern Prep for a non-league game Monday.

HARRY S TRUMAN 66, DELAWARE COUNTY CHRISTIAN 60

“The key tonight was the changing of defense and getting 40 of my 66 points from my starting guards,” Truman coach Tyrone Lewis said.
The win was the first of the season for the Tigers (1-9, 0-4 SOL). Truman will host MaST Charter on Monday in a non-league game.
