Non-league
NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2
The visiting Lions opened up a 2-0 halftime lead and took that advantage into the final quarter when they withstood a late charge by the Golden Hawks to earn the non-league win.
“This was a really competitive game, and I’m really happy we did well,” NHS coach Gwen Smith said. “Obviously for everybody, this has been a challenging year, and with us having such a small team, I can’t even scrimmage. The best I can do is 6v6 or 7v7, so every game we are learning things about our team.
“The first couple games against Springfield (the Lions only two losses) happened so fast in the beginning of the season, and you’re still learning. I feel like we’re still developing and learning, and this was a really good game that they were able to bring it together, fight and pull it out.”
Erin Firth converted a penalty stroke to spot the visiting Lions a 1-0 lead after one quarter. That grew to 2-0 by halftime, thanks to an Ellie Buckard goal with a Lilly Smith assist.
The Golden Hawks made things interesting when – in the fourth quarter – Kerry Kaufman hit paydirt on a penalty strike to make it a 2-1 game.
The Lions had an answer with Avery Mendola scoring with an assist from Mia Gomolinski. A Cailey Hiscox goal pulled the Golden Hawks within one, but the Lions held on for the win.
“We were up 2-0 for over half the game, and we were not scoring, not scoring,” Smith said. “Then they get a stroke and they score, and it was 2-1, and my team answered immediately. It was like a minute after they scored.
“They had a really nice quick transition goal to make it 3-2, but we were able to hold them off. I’m just really proud of the effort.”
The Lions held an advantage in corners (14-6) and shots (9-7).
Anchoring the Lions are defenders Erin Firth and Sophia Cozza and midfielders Lilly Smith and Kate Dougherty.
“I think the bigger difference today was more of my role players stepped up,” Smith said. “Everybody stepped up their game today, and we all came together.
“The forwards and the mids did some really good passing combinations, looking for each other.”
New Hope-Solebury upped its overall record to 7-2 (6-2 SOL) Council Rock South (6-4, 6-2) will host William Tennent in a non-league game Monday.

With just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter, Roscoe connected for her second goal. Dylan Beegal added a goal in the closing seconds of the quarter, using an Avery McGinty assist.

SOUDERTON 3, NORTH PENN 2
The Indians, who trailed 2-1 at the intermission, scored a pair of third-quarter goals to eke out a win in the conference finale for both teams.
“We changed up our lineup again,” said Souderton coach Sue Casciato. “Not only do we change the players out there, we change our formation every game.
“Today we went with two forwards and four mids. That worked until halftime and then we changed that up. A lot of times we’re just trying to figure out how to get Lauren open. She’s been drawing a triple team.”
With 5:30 remaining in the first quarter, Erin O’Donnell (Bay Detweiler assist) scored during corner play to spot the Knights a 1-0 lead. It turned out to be short-lived as Kenah answered with a goal for the Indians 32 seconds later.
“She got that goal by herself,” Casciato said. “She dribbled around 10 people and put the ball in, which was nice because we didn’t even have time to get down after falling behind. It was nice to get even so quickly.”
With 5:31 remaining in the second quarter, Maddie Waldspurger converted a penalty stroke to send the Knights into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The third quarter belonged to the Indians and turned out to be the difference in the game. Three minutes into the quarter, Kenah (Lauren Frye assist) slammed home a direct shot on a corner to knot the score. Josie Doughty turned a rebound of a goalie save during corner play into the game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the quarter for the 3-2 final.
“It was a pretty even game,” Casciato said. “I felt like we dominated the third period, but in the fourth quarter, it was a little helter skelter.
“It was a very back and forth game. It definitely could have gone either way.”
The Knights held an 11-6 advantage in corners. Both teams took 11 shots on goal.
“There have been some games we dominated and lost, and I guess in the end it all comes out the same,” Casciato said. “Everybody had their moments today. We’re doing a much better job having more people involved in the offense, even including the mids and the backs.
“Lauren Frye is our left back, and she’s had two or three really good games in a row. She’s still defending well, but she’s getting involved more in the offense.”
North Penn goalie Mallory Stowell was credited with 10 saves, and Megan Albert also had a defensive save. Souderton’s Jordan Michalak had seven saves in a winning effort.”
Souderton (6-3-1 SOL) will host Wissahickon in a non-league game Monday, and North Penn (5-5) will host Wissahickon in a non-league game Wednesday.
