SOL Patriot
Neshaminy 4, Council Rock North 2
Neshaminy built a halftime lead and controlled play from start to finish.
“We put together a really good solid game as far as passing the ball goes,” coach Tom Foley said. “We moved the ball as well as we’ve moved it all year.
“It was a double-edged sword. Joe (Stackhouse) was a little shorthanded, and we throw one of our better offensive games at them. I was happy. It was a good way to end the (league) season.”
Gavin Rowan opened the scoring just 11 minutes into the game.
“He had a free kick from about 22 out, and he just ripped it,” Foley said. “It was a great shot. The goalie had a hand on it, but he has such a heavy shot it went in.”
Ryan Schoeneman doubled the lead just five minutes later. Another hard shot, this one coming off the foot of Jojo Maxwell at the top of the 18, forced a save and rebound that Schoeneman was able to clean up.
Neshaminy’s distance display continued on the third goal, which came about a minute before the break when Schoeneman took a rip from 30 yards out.
“It was a low screamer, and it kind of skipped,” Foley said. “The goalie gave up a rebound, and Matt Lamb got that rebound.”
While the Indians were short handed, they weren’t short on fight and pulled a goal back early in the second half.
“We were trying to get a little too cute, and we gave them a throw-in, which is one thing we told them not to do,” Foley said.
“They had a long throw, it went in the box, and we were a little casual getting it on. Lou Salmi went to clear it and got some good wood on it.
“Jeremy Kamp stepped in front of it, it ricocheted off him and went in our net. Joe (Stackhouse) was very complimentary about this kid and said he’s been playing out of his mind for the last handful of games, so he was happy he got the goal.”
Neshaminy got its three-goal lead back in the 55th minute. The Indians’ keeper made a great save on Mike Albarran, but a miscue in the back left the ball and keeper in no man’s land where Rowan was able to rush in and tap the ball home.
Shane Bradley made it 4-2 with about 18 minutes left when he capitalized on a Neshaminy mistake. After a ball going out was headed back in, Bradley was left to tuck it in past Neshaminy reserve keeper Logan Gildea, who had no chance to make a save.
“Everyone played really well. Every kid played at least seven or eight minutes today,” Foley said. “Justin Lykonov got in and got six shots in his time. He didn’t get a goal, but he certainly worked hard enough to get a goal. Connor Steele was very good again in the midfield. All my midfielders were very, very good – Joe Jackson and Jojo Maxwell all played really, really well.”
Neshaminy (8-1-2, 6-0-2 SOL) ended the day No. 7 in the District I 4A rankings. Council Rock North (2-6, 2-4) faces Council Rock South on Tuesday.

Quakertown 3, Plymouth Whitemarsh 2
The Panthers came out victorious in a back-and-forth match to pick up a hard-earned conference win.
“The boys played fantastic tonight and came out fired up for their first league win in three years,” Quakertown coach Lee Bishop said. “As their coach, I could not be more proud of the seniors and their leadership this season.”
Quakertown (2-10, 1-9 SOL) broke a 1-1 halftime tie with two second-half goals. The Panthers got goals from Cody Steiert, Gavin Smith and the game-winner from Ethan Erickson.
Plymouth Whitemarsh closed out its season with a 3-7 mark.

Non-league
Lower Moreland 1, Bensalem 0
The Lions are closing the season strong.
Lower Moreland picked up its third win in the last four matches but finds itself on the outside looking in at the District I 3A field. With four teams getting in, the No. 6 Lions will need some help to keep going.
“It’s good to get into the playoffs, but if you’re hovering around .500, you know you’re going to be getting a great team,” LM coach Rob Dominick said. “It’s kind of like being the eighth seed in the NBA playoffs. Are you really going to make a run? It happens sometimes. I think the kids will be disappointed because they’ll look at games they could have won during the season and say, ‘If we had won one of those games against Tennent, we probably would have been in.’
“I think that’s literally all it would have taken because Tennent is 10-0 right now. I hope they’re looking at it as – ‘Hey, we can use this as a building block to next year.’ Hopefully at the beginning of the season next year, they’ll say, ‘Look, we ended on a high note,’ and build on that and compete for districts next year.”
After 60 minutes of even play, Gabe Krutsinger broke the deadlock when he converted off a pass from midfielder Tim Kroll.
“Gabe has been getting a lot of good chances up at the top. I coached him last year on jayvee, and he really did not play striker,” Dominick said. “He was generally a center defensive mid or a back, so he’s really done a great job for us at striker.”
LM has received a significant boost from two sets of brothers. Tim and John Kroll, along with Braden and Ian Alicea, have given the Lions a foundation to build on in the middle portion of the field.
“Tim and John are the guys that control the midfield, and Braden will more center defensive mid, and those three control the midfield,” Dominick said. “Ian is basically one of our top two guys in the back. Those guys have really been instrumental the whole season in making sure that our defense is solid in the back and that we can get it up the wings and get it up to the strikers and make something happen. Those two pairs of brothers have done a heck of a lot for us. It’s good too that none of them are graduating. It’s good we’re keeping that core together for next year.”
Aidan Stepansky also factored into the final stages of the game
“Aiden is one of our most solid defenders. Once we scored today, he moved to center defensive mid and cleared the ball a bunch of times to help us seal the victory,” Dominick said.
LM (4-6, 2-6 SOL) will try to keep its strong run of form going Thursday when it hosts Calvary Christian.
“We had a pretty good run the last week or so,” Dominick said. “There were some that got away from us in the end earlier in the year.
“I like the fact that we’re ending strong. We have one more non-league game on Thursday against Calvary Christian, so hopefully that will be another win for us and we finish 5-6 and hopefully good things to come in the future.”
Bensalem (2-6, 2-5) will travel to Upper Moreland for a non-league game Tuesday.

William Tennent 2, Council Rock South 1
The SOL Freedom champions stepped across conference lines and only solidified their playoff standing.
A wild finish saw the Panthers give up a late goal, but respond with two of their own as they stayed unbeaten on the season and kept hold of the No. 2 spot in the District I 4A rankings.
“CRS scored on a nice back post head ball with under seven minutes to play off a set piece,” Tennent coach Nick D’Andrea said. “We responded a minute or so later on a corner by senior captain Sean Metz to senior captain Ben Weir on the back post for his own head ball goal.”
That was only the beginning of the frantic finish. In the final minute, a foul in the box gave the Panthers a chance to win and defend their home turf.
“With 30 seconds left, we got a PK off a hand ball and Sean Metz finished it,” D’Andrea said. “It was a great game from both teams.”
Council Rock South’s Andrew Rosenfeld and William Tennent’s Damian Dangler battled all game in the midfield.
“There were chances both ways with momentum swings,” D’Andrea said. “It’s a great way to end the regular season. We’re looking forward to the playoffs.
“Good luck to CRS the rest of the way and to their coach Alan (Nicholl), who is always a class act.”
William Tennent closed out its regular season with an 11-0 record (8-0 SOL). Council Rock South (4-5-1, 2-4-1 SOL) will face Council Rock North on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
