QUAKERTOWN 2, BOYERTOWN 1
Morgan Sipprell notched her second game-winner in as many contests, scoring with just under two minutes to play in regulation and propelling the Panthers to a win over the defending state champions.
“It was a quality team and a quality win,” coach Mike Koch said. “We’re trying to get better, and they’re bought in to getting better every training session, growing as a player and growing as a team, and I’m really proud of them.”
The Panthers set the tone early, scoring three minutes into the game on a goal Callie Abel with a Cori Pursel assist.
“That was just a really good shot by Abel,” Koch said.
That 1-0 lead stood until just 15 minutes remained in the contest when Alina Fritz found the back of the net to knot the score.
With 1:54 remaining in regulation, Sipprell – the Panthers’ goalkeeper for the past three years –connected on the game-winner, also using a Pursel assist. She also had the winning goal in the Panthers’ 1-0 non-league win over Calvary Christian last Tuesday
“She’s a field player at the club level, so I’ve been letting her play the second half on the field the last three games,” Koch said. “Her goal was a restart from Cori (Pursel), and it was very composed.
“Morgan Sipprell is a very composed finisher. She hasn’t had a chance to do it much in high school, and today’s goal was much like her goal against Calvary (Christian) – just placed in the corner nicely.”
The Panthers’ coach praised the performances of several other players as well.
“Cori (Pursel), who had the two assists, is a stud center back,” Koch said. “A couple of my backs played really well – Mackenna Calabria and Carlee Roesener. They had great games.”
Quakertown (6-7-1, 3-6-1 SOL) will host Archbishop John Carroll in a non-league game on Monday at 6 p.m. The game will be the 15th of the season for the Panthers.
