SOL Colonial Division
Pennridge 64, North Penn 56 (OT)
After watching an eight-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter, Pennridge dominated in overtime, outscoring their hosts 12-4. Justin Nichols and Greg Stumpo each hit key 3-pointers, and the Rams won an important Colonial Division game.
“A lot of things transpired in that game,” said Pennridge coach Dean Behrens. “We were up eight in the fourth quarter, and we had some bad
turnovers, missed some foul shots. They hit a three that hit the front of the rim, popped straight up and then went in. That shot made it 51-48, and I thought, ‘The basketball gods are going to get us.’ We missed a foul shot, and they tied the game up. We had the last shot – we had a good shot – but it didn’t go in.”
Pennridge was hit with foul trouble, especially in overtime after senior guard Luke Yoder fouled out in regulation.
“We get to overtime and I have no Luke Yoder,” Behrens said. “The problem we ran into – they had so many fouls to give, and we weren’t getting to the foul line at all until very late in the fourth quarter. At one point, it was 8-1 us to them, and we couldn’t stop (NP senior Josh) Jones. He just planted himself inside and had a great game. We were double teaming him, but he was really strong in there and put my kids in a tough spot.
“Our guys hung in there. I had guys on the floor that never played varsity. Greg Stumpo hits a huge three in the beginning of overtime. I think he was 0-for-6 going into overtime, and he knocks a three down. Justin Nichols hits a huge three overtime to extend the lead, and he hadn’t shot the ball real well. It was impressive.
“We’re going deep on our bench. Jude D’Agostino hit two threes – one to end the quarter. He really played well, gained some experience. I got a sophomore, (Matt Campione), that I put in late in the game because we’re all in foul trouble. Guys fouled out, and he’s stepping up, and that’s tough because they’re pressuring the heck out of us.”
It was a big win for defending champ Pennridge coming off a loss in its division opener against CB East on Tuesday, although Friday’s game didn’t start out on a promising note.
“We were down 7-0 – I had to call a timeout,” said Behrens. “I’m not saying right now they’re the most talented group in the league, but our kids
have a lot of pride, and they play hard. They give me everything they’ve got. We actually went on a 14-6 run to close the first quarter, and we were up 14-13. I was pleased with that, and now there’s a ball game.”
The Rams trailed by two at halftime, 28-26. Yoder led the Rams with 11 points while Colin Post had nine on three 3-pointers. Josh Jones had 18 for the Knights. Pennridge – propelled by Post’s 13 points – outscored North Penn 26-24 in the second half.
Post’s 22 points led the Rams while Yoder had 16 and Nichols 12 points.
“I felt good for the boys, I really did,” Behrens said. “They really earned that win. We had two good practices after losing to East. I challenged their seniors. It’s their time to hold the program to the high standard we’ve had the last 10-12 years. They take that serious. They give me everything they have. They want to be successful. It was a great win.”
Jones had a monster game for the Knights, finishing with 34 points, which included a 14-for-19 effort at the foul line. Ryan Zeltt had six points.
The Knights (1-1 SOL, 1-1) play at Plymouth Whitemarsh on Saturday (2:30 p.m.), before returning home to host Souderton in a division game on Tuesday. Pennridge (2-2, 1-1) plays at CB West on Tuesday.

CB East started fast and never looked back Friday, jumping up 19-8 after one and 34-16 by halftime, improving to 2-0 in SOL Colonial Division play.
Senior Jack Hamilton turned in a strong effort for the Patriots with 10 points, six rebounds and seven blocks.
“Jack Hamilton battled some early foul trouble but still managed to dominate tonight on both ends of the floor,” said Patriots coach Erik Henrysen. “He is a real matchup problem for teams at (6-foot-9). He has the athleticism and handle of a guard. He put on 20 pounds of muscle since the end of last season too. He is really anchoring our defense well.”
Senior Joe Jackman started strong with eight points in the first quarter on the way to a game-high 16 for CB East. Brett Young and Jason Markowitz had nine points each.
Overall, the team showed off its depth on both ends of the floor.
“Our depth has really been a strength,” Henrysen said. “Tonight, it was Brett Young’s turn. He shot the ball well and provided a boost.
“Jacob Cummiskey was great again in just his second game of high school basketball. He finished with five assists but it could have been eight or nine. He is so composed and seems to always make the right play. If you didn’t look at the roster, you wouldn’t know he was a freshman.”
CB East plays at Quakertown Saturday (5 p.m.) before returning home to host rival CB South on Tuesday.
Souderton (0-2, 0-2) was led by football standouts Evan Kutzler and Shaun Purvy, who had 11 points each. The Indians play at North Penn on Tuesday.

Tied after one quarter, CB South dominated rival CB West in the second quarter to go up 34-22 at halftime as the Titans pulled away at home to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
“Overall, this group plays as a team and shares the ball well,” said South coach Jason Campbell. “It was nice to celebrate our seniors tonight with Senior Night.”
In that critical second quarter, the Titans received a spark off the bench from Joe Rooney, who finished the game with nine points.
“The pivotal points were the second quarter and then in the fourth,” Campbell said. “In the second, we received a huge boost off the bench from Joe Rooney (seven points, including a 3-pointer) and Tyler Meinel (seven points).
“Then in the fourth, we had seven different players score and our defense came up with four or five steals.”
Offensively, the Titans were led by Meinel’s 13 points.
CB West standout Teddy Spratt was held to three points for the game, as he battled foul trouble and ended up fouling out in the fourth quarter. Donte Mancini led the Bucks with 16 points, while John Lee had seven.
The Bucks head out of the division in search of their first win Saturday as they play at Pennsbury (1:30 p.m.).CB South plays at unbeaten rival CB East on Tuesday.

Drew Stover celebrated Senior Night with another stellar outing. The UD senior scored 31 points, including 18 in the second half and eight in the fourth quarter as Upper Dublin remained unbeaten and pulled away from Quakertown.
“Yes, (it was) a big scoring night for Drew,” said UD coach Chris Monahan. “He was able to establish offensive position and he shot a high percentage.”
Stover scored 18 of UD’s 25 points in the second half.
The Flying Cardinals led by one at the end of one and just 34-31 at halftime, as Quakertown shot the ball well early and was able to stay in the game.
“We gave up six easy threes in the first half,” Monahan said. “After discussing that at halftime, we did a much better job in the second half defending the three. They had zero in the second half. That was the difference in the game.”
Colin O’Sullivan finished with 11 points for the Cardinals, including seven in the first quarter.
For Quakertown, Jack Gordon was the high scorer with 15 points, including 10 in the first quarter on three 3-pointers. Kayden Roley had 12 points, nine in the first half. The Panthers were just 7-for-18 from the free throw line.
Quakertown (0-3, 0-2) hosts CB East in a nonleague game Saturday (5) before returning for a division game on Tuesday against Wissahickon. UD (3-0, 2-0) hosts Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday.

Jackson Intieri had 16 points and Matt Compas added 15, but it was on the defensive end where the Trojans shined on Friday, holding Abington to just 38 points on 32 percent shooting from the field.
“We took a chance,” said Wissahickon coach Kyle Wilson. “We knew last year when we played them, they had a kid (Joey) Brusha, who shot the ball well. They had (Robert) Bell and Manir Waller, who were more attack players.
“(Friday), we wanted to keep their perimeter game in check and see if they have any shooters. If we can battle inside and take away their perimeter players, we’d have a good chance.
“We were able to limit what they did inside. (Oreck) Frazier is a monster inside for them. Josh Twersky took three charges against him.”
Wednesday, Wissahickon won an up-and-down the court, fast-paced game against Springfield 77-53. Friday’s game was played at a slower pace.
“This game was a lot slower,” Wilson said. “I told them, we may not be hitting all of our shots, but this is a different style of game. It was a grind it out type of game, and in my opinion, we were playing better than them.”
Bell had 14 points to lead Abington, while Frazier ended up with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Ghosts were just 5-for-22 from the field in the second half and 2-for-11 from 3-point range for the game.
Abington (0-1. 0-1) is off until next Friday when its hosts Plymouth Whitemarsh. Wissahickon (2-0, 2-0) hosts New Hope-Solebury on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).

CR North jumped ahead by as many as nine, saw its lead slip away, but tied it going into the fourth.
Logan Saifer scored eight points in the critical fourth quarter as the Indians edged rival CR South to improve to 2-0 in Patriot Division play on Friday night.
“South played really hard,” said North coach Jesse Krasna. “They went on a big run in the third quarter after we were up nine. They took the lead but our kids showed great poise when the game was on the line to regain and hold onto the lead. In a rivalry game as intense as this, you knew neither team was going away.
“Our guards handled pressure late and made plays for their teammates. Bernie (Parent) made big plays for himself and dumped the ball off for several layups in the fourth quarter, showing once again what a great guard he is. Our kids really dug in defensively and came up with some key stops. Logan Saifer knocked down a big jumper and presented himself to the ball and had some really nice finishes in traffic.”
Jack Blum had 13 points to lead the Indians, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the fourth, while Saifer had 12 and Parent added eight points. But Krasna said his team had contributions up and down the lineup.
“Connor Rushing had a great pass to a wide open teammate for an easy layup on a drive,” Krasna said. “Garrett Gromlich was really solid on both ends of the floor. Adam Mahtat banged hard inside and ripped down several attitude rebounds. Mikey Sylvester was all over the court getting every loose ball and rebound, even the ones in different area codes and came up with a big put back. Several players stepped up at different times.
“Jack Blum hit four clutch free throws late in the game to give us some breathing room. With Jack, we sometimes wonder if he has a pulse because he is so calm under pressure.
“It really wasn’t about any adjustments because our kids executed our (game plan) really well. It was more about feeling the moment and making big plays in the guts of the game. Closing teams out was something we struggled with last season but this group is starting to understand how to win close games, play at their own tempo.”
CR South was led by Joe Purcell, who scored 21 points, while Gavin Holloran had nine and Matt Robinson eight.
The Golden Hawks (0-2, 0-2) play at Pennsbury on Tuesday. CR North hosts Bensalem in a battle of two unbeaten teams in Patriot Division play on Wednesday.

Neshaminy 61, Pennsbury 55
Trailing by seven at halftime, Neshaminy exploded to a 24-4 third quarter to take over the game on the way to the six-point win over archrival Pennsbury. Jimmy MacDonald and Jake McGinty each had six points in the pivotal quarter that featured a lot of defense.
“To start the game, we still had some rust,” said Neshaminy coach Mark Tingle. “Every team you see on film, everyone is going to have a little rust. In the first half, we were 6-for-18 from the paint. We were getting really good looks but weren’t finishing. On defense, we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds, which is funny because we had the height advantage.”
MacDonald led a balanced scoring night for Neshaminy with 14 points, while Matt Murray had 13 to go along with 12 rebounds, Jake McGinty 10 and Matt Drapkin seven.
“Jake McGinty played great defensively in the second half,” Tingle said. “We made it a point to shut down (Pennsbury’s Evan) McNeely in the second half, and he only had two points in the second half. That was definitely a big factor.
“And we moved the ball better and finished our opportunities better.”
Neshaminy improved to 2-0 with the win in Patriot Division play and will host Harry S. Truman on Tuesday.
“We have a lot of experience,” Tingle said. “We have eight seniors totals and six of our rotation players from last year are back; four of them were starters. That’s a really good thing in a shortened season with no offseason. The kids have been playing together their whole lives, so experience is a big factor.”
McNeely led Pennsbury with 13 points, while Brendan McCormack and Kennan Taddei had 11 points each and Evan Richard 10 points.
The Falcons (0-2, 0-2) look for their first win at home against CB West on Saturday.

Bensalem 62, Harry S. Truman 44
On the road, the Owls came out strong Friday and were up by 21 point at halftime on the way to the Patriot Division win over rival Truman.
“We played well early,” said Owls coach Ron Morris. “We knew coming in that they’re an improved team this year. They’re shooting the ball well and it was their Senior Night.
“Everyone is having Senior Night early this year because of COVID, and on Senior Night, a team can get a little extra juice. We had good back and forth, but we were able to gradually build up the lead and hold it.”
The backcourt of James Ashford and Aaron Sanders did their thing with 19 and 13 points, respectively, but Morris said he was happy with the way his team played inside.
“We rebounded well tonight,” Morris said. “That’s one thing we emphasized. We’ve been giving up a lot of second-chance points. I think James had 10 rebounds tonight. He does a lot on the floor for us, and tonight he rebounded really well and we were able to get in transition.
“It varied across the board for us tonight. James and Aaron led the way scoring, but Jake DeLange had 10 points and Luke Zeidler is coming around and had a good game tonight. And we’re getting contributions off the bench. Matt Ebner came in and gave us key minutes tonight.”
Bensalem plays a nonleague game at Executive Academy Charter School on Saturday (1:30 p.m.), before returning to division play Wednesday against Council Rock North.
Truman was led by Keyshawn Clark, who scored 11 points while Justin Fant had 10. The Tigers (0-2, 0-2) will look for their first win Tuesday at Neshaminy.
