SOL Patriot Division
PENNSBURY 66, HARRY S TRUMAN 25
It’s official.
Pennsbury clinched sole possession of the SOL Patriot Division title with its win at Truman Monday. Last year, the Falcons shared the division crown with Neshaminy. This is the program’s first back-to-back titles since 1979 and the first outright crown since 1994.
“That was the year that the Hollister twins transferred in to Pennsbury in the fall,” coach Frank Sciolla said. “Both of them are six footers and played Division I basketball. Michele was a legendary ACC player at Virginia Tech.”
In Monday’s win, the Falcons opened up a 16-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
“Truman is short handed and we jumped out quickly in the first quarter,” Sciolla said. “We were able to establish a quick tempo. Obviously, winning a league title is never something to take for granted. We are really happy for a senior class and we are especially happy of the overall leadership we received when we went through those crazy few weeks with all of our girls down.
“I’m staring at my 25th Senior Night (Saturday) spread across four different programs and I can say without hesitation that I’m cherishing every moment I get with these four seniors (Bella Arcuri, Abbi Nassivera, Lauren Dignan and Mia Spinelli). They’ve helped engineer an enormous turnaround , and we are so happy for them.”
Junior Ava Sciolla’s 21 points led the Falcons. Freshman Sofia Vitucci added 11 points, and senior Bella Arcuri had eight in a contest that saw 11 of 12 players that dressed score.
For the Tigers, senior Hannah Smith had 10 points, and sophomore Secret McCleve added eight.
Pennsbury (10-4, 9-1 SOL) will host Pennridge in a non-league game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Harry S Truman (1-9, 1-7) will travel to Neshaminy on Wednesday.
