Non-league
Pennridge 6, Hatboro-Horsham 4
Pennridge scored six unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as the Rams opened the season with a come-from-behind road win over host Hatboro-Horsham on Friday.
“I’ve known (H-H coach Pete Moore) for 20 years,” said Rams coach Craig Whitten. “I played with him years ago in the Perky League. It seems like Hatboro always has a really good team. I know Pennridge hasn’t played Hatboro in forever, but I told the guys, this is going to be one of the better teams we see.”
The Hatters started quickly with three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Cole Fisher had an RBI single in the inning, while Nick Catherine and Ryan Toporowski scored runs. Eric Sonntag added an RBI single in the third to make it a 4-0 game.
At that point, Pennridge’s pitching settled in, led by starter Matt Dubyk, who went five innings, allowed four hits and walked four, but struck out seven and battled the whole way.
“It was windy that’s for sure,” Whitten said. “We were battling that pretty bad.
“Dubyk, I told him probably two weeks ago, ‘You’re going to be our ace, our No. 1 guy.’ I told him that he was going to pitch against Hatboro on Friday, and a couple days ago, we had Cameron (Schauble) ready to go and Jaden (Morgan) in case we need you.
“Dubyk had his ups and downs, but he pitched around some stuff, and a lot of the hits he did give up, were hits in the air and the wind got a hold of it. But he bounced back nicely.”
Schauble and Morgan each pitched scoreless innings of relief.
On the other side, H-H’s Jimmy Tooley pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed just one run, leaving the game with the lead in the fourth.
Nick Chellew scored on an error to get the Rams on the board, and then Joey Callabretti made it 4-2 with an RBI double to score Harry Haeflein.
Pennridge’s damage in the fifth was unorthodox as its batters struck out four times in the inning, and at one point there was one on and two outs. But three walks, two dropped third strikes and a two-RBI single by Bobby Croyle put the Rams in command for good.
Croyle went 2-for-3 with the two RBIs to lead Pennridge (1-0)
Hatboro-Horsham (0-1) was led by Just Kahrimanian, who went 2-for-3.
Pennridge is back on the field Monday against Lansdale Catholic at James Memorial Park.
The Hatters look to bounce back Monday against Harry S. Truman.

Council Rock North 12, Upper Dublin 2
Austin Stalker went 3-for-3 with three home runs and five RBIs, as the Indians rolled to the win in the nonleague opener for both teams.
He also had three runs scored and was hit by a pitch.
“He clearly set the tone offensively for us,” said CR North coach Matt Shramm. “Pitchers Colin Williams and Alex Estrada combined to give up 2 hits. Upper Dublin is a well- coached, scrappy team that put pressure (on us) just about every inning. But we were fortunate to get out of trouble spots.”
Stalker was hit by a pitch to lead off the game in the first, and later in the inning, Josh Duddy drove in a pair with a two-run double.
Upper Dublin tied it at 2 in the bottom half of the inning, thanks to three straight walks to start and then a RBI ground out by Tristan Carnes that scored two runs.
Stalker led off the third with a home run, and Shane Anhalt made it 4-2 with a sacrifice fly that scored a run. In the fourth, a single, an error and a sacrifice were followed by a two-RBI double by Jadon Tang, who scored himself one batter later as Stalker belted his second homer of the game.
In the sixth, Stalker connected for the third time, another two-run shot.
Reece Abbe also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Indians (1-0).
Williams picked up the win, going 3 1/3 innings and not allowing a hit. He did walk five and struck out six. Estrada pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings of relief, with four strikeouts.
Upper Dublin (0-1) had just two hits, singles by Carnes and Ethan Madrick.
CR North hosts Central Bucks West on Tuesday. Upper Dublin plays at North Penn on Monday.

St Joseph Prep 4, Wissahickon 2
After jumping up early, the Trojans couldn’t hang on late against visiting St. Joseph’s Prep in the nonleague opener on Friday.
“St. Joes Prep is a tough team and their starting pitcher did a good job settling into the game after we got to him early,” said Wissahickon coach Andy Noga. “Our pitchers, Nate DeVincent and Reed Bram, kept their lineup off balance and gave our offense a chance to stay in the game and potentially win the game.
“Obviously it’s everyone’s first real game in over a year, so some key mental mistakes cost us opportunities to take the lead.”
Wissahickon scored twice in the bottom of the second to take the early lead, asSeth Floyd tripled to center field to score Jackson Tappen and then courtesy runner Morgan Wilson scored on an error.
The Prep tied it with two in the third and then deadlocked at 2, the Hawks pulled it out with one run in the sixth and another in the seventh.
Wissahickon starter DeVincent went four innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out four.
Offensively, the Trojans (0-1) had just three hits as a team, by Floyd, Joe Hornig and Grayson Lovitz.
They’re back on the field Tuesday at home against Central Bucks East.

Lower Moreland 12, MaST Charter 2 (5 innings)
The offensive firepower was on display throughout, as the Lions opened the 2021 season with a convincing five-inning win, scoring 12 runs on nine hits and receiving a stellar pitching outing from a ninth-grader.
Freshman Mason Tammaro went the distance for Lower Moreland, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings, with six strikeouts and no walks in a 74-pitch outing.
“(Tammro) showed a lot in his first varsity start, throwing the whole game,” said LM coach Tony Martino. “He was very poised and confident the whole game.”
MaST Charter jumped ahead 2-0 early, but offensively, Lower Moreland bounced back quickly and had a lot of contributions, led by Matt Haggerty, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
In the bottom of the first, Matt Dymobowski led off with a triple for LM and later scored on a sac fly by Jack Doneker. The next batter, Haggerty, tied it with a solo home run to left field.
The Lions then grabbed the lead for good with three in the bottom of the second, taking advantage of a pair of errors. Robbie Link added a sac fly to make it 6-2 in the third.
In the fourth, Doneker drove in one with a RBI triple, followed by a RBI single from Haggerty. The next inning, the team finished the game off with three more runs, the 12th run coming on an RBI single by Haggerty.
“It was good to see us battle back after getting down 2-0 to start the game,” Martino said.
Dymbowski was 2-for-4 with a RBI and four runs scored, while Aiden Stepansky was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Lower Moreland (1-0) has another nonleague game Monday at Archbishop Wood.

Downingtown West 6, Central Bucks West 5
The Bucks went on the road to open the season and let one slip away as host Downingtown West won with four runs in the bottom of the seventh in dramatic fashion.
CB West led this one throughout, starting with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The lead grew to 5-2 after five and that lead stood going into the seventh.
Michael Boyle led off the game with a single and he would later score on a bases loaded walk in the first. Aiden Kim picked up the RBI on a fielder’s choice grounder that plated Aidan Quinn to make it a 2-0 game.
Damian Thomas added to the lead with a sac fly that scored Matt Bukowski in the second.
After the Whippets pulled to 3-2 in the third, the Bucks countered with a run in the fourth on a Boyle single and then another in the fifth as James Carbone scored on a catcher’s interference call.
Boyle went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Bucks offensively.
On the mound, Cole Fehrman started, allowing two runs (one earn) on two hits, while striking out seven, giving way to Connor Dobos, who pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out four.
In the critical seventh, Downingtown West took advantage of four walks and later an error that scored the winning run.

Aided by wind and a strong game at the plate, William Tennent walked away from this one with the score tied as the game was called due to darkness.
Leading the way for Tennent was Chris Colella, who was 2-for-5 with two triples. DJ Dickson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Aiden Larson was 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.
On the mound, Dickson went two innings for the Panthers, while Mike Soltis and Kevin Ralston threw three innings each and Mike Sheller finished it off with one inning.
