COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 6, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2 (11 innings)
Since four hours and 10 innings could not determine a winner on Friday, the neighboring rivals returned to the diamond on Saturday, and it took just one inning for the visiting Indians to take care of business, erupting for four runs in the top of the 11th inning.
A bases-loaded walk to Pat Kusters pushed home a run that turned out to be the game-winner. Josh Huddy’s two-run single highlighted the four-run inning.
“I was pleased with our approach today at the plate,” Rock North coach Matt Schram said. “Yesterday our approach was spotty, and that’s only because we have a lot of young guys who have never experienced a Council Rock North/Council Rock South baseball game. It was energized, and they were feeling it.
“The guys admitted it – I don’t want to say they were nervous, but the excitement was getting to them. They did a lot of things we weren’t expecting them to do that we thought we had them prepared for. We’re just talking about swinging at pitches they shouldn’t have swung at, being more disciplined at the plate and even committing errors. Guys who were so sure-handed up until yesterday’s game committed errors that were not like them, and that was the heat of the moment. We talked a lot about that.”
The game – which was halted because of darkness Friday – was resumed at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
“We had time for a little ‘chalk talk’ and kind of unpacked the game from yesterday and gave us a chance to clean up some of the things they did yesterday and today they didn’t,” Schram said. “It was the same energy, it was the same crowd – they had a good crowd, and the guys executed.
“They executed each at-bat, they did everything they needed to do offensively, moving guys over, bunting, the whole nine yards. It was just a good 11th inning for us.”
The top of the 11th started with Leor Kedar drawing a free pass, and Austin Stalker followed with a single to right. Collin Manel legged out a bunt single to load the bases, setting the stage for Huddy’s two-run single to center. Kusters crossed the plate with the Indians’ fourth run on a miscue.
In the bottom of the inning, Quinn Erlandsen retired the first two batters he faced, but a walk and single put a pair on board. The threat ended with a groundout to second, and a win was in the books for the Indians.
Erlandsen earned the win, but Schram had high praise for the efforts of Collin Williams and Alex Chase on Friday.
“All three pitchers were terrific,” Schram said. “It’s a shame because Collin Williams threw a gem yesterday, and he doesn’t get a decision.”
Williams allowed just three hits and one run (unearned) in 5.1 innings, striking out 11 and walking one before being lifted when he reached the 96-pitch mark. In 4.2 innings of relief, Alex Chase allowed four hits and one run (unearned) while striking out three and walking one.
“Alex Chase comes in and he throws a whole other baseball game,” Schram said. “He didn’t have as many strikeouts, but he kept us in shape to win a baseball game. Those two guys did a phenomenal job.
“Today we brought in a young sophomore in his first Council Rock North/Council Rock South baseball game on a suspended game in the 11th inning at South, and he did a terrific job as well.”
The Indians were led by the multi-hit efforts of Huddy (3-for-5, 2 RBIs), Stalker (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, 2 runs) and Manel (2-for-4, 1 run).
For the Golden Hawks, Ben Haines and Ryan Bauerle were both 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
As for playing the game over two days, Schram acknowledged it was a first.
“In all the years I’ve been doing this as a head coach and even as an assistant coach, I have never been involved in a suspended high school baseball game,” Schram said. “In my 19th year, this is a first. It was a pretty cool experience.”
Council Rock North (4-0, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Bensalem on Monday, and Council Rock South (2-1, 1-1) will be on the road at Pennsbury on Monday.

Non-league
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 14, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 5
Home runs from Joe and Jesse Jaconski as well as the pitching debut of Alex Wilkie-Vicscio highlighted Saturday’s non-league win. Joe’s home run in the bottom of the second plated three runs while Jesse’s solo shot to lead off the fourth gave the Colonials a 7-2 lead on their way to the convincing win.
In 3.1 innings on the mound, Wilkie-Viscio allowed four hits and two runs (both unearned), striking out two and walking none.
“Alex got his first varsity start on the mound and was very effective into the fourth inning,” PW coach Chris Manero said. “It was really a complete effort with a combination of big hits, small ball, and some really productive at-bats off the bench.”
Wood plated a single run in the second (unearned), but the Vikings’ 1-0 lead was short-lived, thanks to a two-out rally by the Colonials in the second. It began with a pair of hit batsmen, and with two outs, Joe Jaconski ripped a three-run home run to left field, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 PW lead.
The Colonials managed just one hit but added three more runs in the third. The Vikings made it a 7-5 game after a three-run fifth, but the Colonials scored six in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.
Joe Jaconski finished the day 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot while Jesse Jaconski was 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored.
Also for the Colonials, second baseman Dominic DiCiurcio was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run score, and Tyler Gartland was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs score.
“Dom DiCiurcio and Tyler Gartland both stepped up with multiple hits that really helped balance out our lineup today,” Manero said.
Eddie Owens was 1-for-1 with a double, RBI and run scored. Michael Miller was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Joe Redmond was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. All told, the Colonials pounded out 11 hits.
Ben Picker did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings of relief to close out the game.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (4-0, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin on Monday.

WISSAHICKON 7, HARRY S TRUMAN 4
The Trojans erupted for five runs in the top of the third to take a lead they would not lose. Joey Carr notched a win in his first varsity start, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one.
Joey Carr did a great job,” Wissahickon coach Andy Noga said. “He settled into the game and kept their hitters off balance.
“Offensively, we have a couple clutch hits from Michael Fath and Finn Olszewski.”
Highlights of Wissahickon’s five-run third included RBI singles by Ben Junker, Kasey Weiss and Keenan Ferst. Weiss stole home for the fourth running of the inning, and the fifth crossed the plate on a Truman miscue.
In the bottom of the third, a two-run double by Truman’s Gabe Marrero trimmed the Trojans’ lead to 5-2. Finn Olszewski contributed an RBI single off the bench in the fifth, and Michael Fath did the same in the sixth to give the Trojans a 7-2 lead before the Tigers scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh.
Ferst was the lone Trojan with more than one hit, finishing the day 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
Wissahickon (2-3, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Quakertown on Monday, and Harry S Truman (0-5, 0-2) will be on the road at Neshaminy on Monday.

NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 13, MaST COMMUNITY CHARTER 3 (5 innings)
With Jason Kloss in command on the mound, the Lions exploded for nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined, bringing an early end to Saturday’s non-league game pitting the former BAL foes.
“Jason Kloss threw an 85-pitch complete game, a solid return since having knee surgery,” NHS coach Tony Vlahovic said. “Our defense was stellar – a no-error day.”
The Lions scored early and often, putting a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first. Josh Shiller had an RBI single, and Brooks Saft roped an RBI double into center that plated the second run.
The Lions scored single runs in the second and third and took a 4-0 lead into the fourth when they plated five runs and then tacked on four more in the fifth to bring an early end to the game.
