Jenn McCarry was all but unstoppable.
The UD senior had a hand in 10 of her team’s 16 goals, scoring seven and assisting on three others. She also had four draw controls and three caused turnovers and was a force all over the field in a standout effort.
“She helped to control the tempo of the game and settled us down on attack,” UD coach Dee Cross said.
The Cardinals took a 9-6 lead into halftime and outscored the Golden Bears 7-3 in the second half.
“We played a tough game,” Cross said. “We are improving every time we step on the field, and this one was good for our younger players to play in – a very back and forth and physical game.”
Also for the Cardinals, Allie Rock had four goals, one assist and two caused turnovers. Aditi Foster had three goals and two assists, and Kelly Senior added one goal and two assists. Maisie Hanson contributed one goal, one assist and two caused turnovers.
Ally Gay led the Cardinals with seven draw controls while Tess Reardon had five. Sarah Brightcliffe had three caused turnovers. Goalie Riley Brady recorded six saves.
For the Golden Bears, Isabel Leiter and Willow Taylor both had a hat trick. Taylor also had one assist and five draw controls, and Leiter had two draw controls. Olivia Meakim added a goal and an assist. Reagan Cummins and Heidi Wittick both had one goal. Wittick and Meredith Marsteller each had one draw control.
UM goalie Emma Hurley was credited with six saves.
“We started the game with a two-goal lead, and UD answered with three,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “It was a back and forth game in the first half, but we struggled to keep with Upper Dublin in the second half.
“Despite having to play down two players for the last 12 minutes of the game, we competed until the last second of the game. Our defense really impressed me today during those 12 minutes. Playing with only five back on defense and on offense was tough, and we were still able to score three times during the last 12 minutes. We played hard; it just wasn’t enough to pull out a win.”
Upper Dublin (3-4, 2-0 SOL) will host Wissahickon on Tuesday, and Upper Moreland (6-2, 3-1) will travel to New Hope-Solebury on Tuesday.
