Council Rock North 10, Souderton 9
In a battle of the Indians, it was the host team that – thanks to the go-ahead goal by freshman Andrew Zazoff with two minutes remaining – eked out the hard fought win.
“It was such a close game – it was just back and forth the entire game,” Rock North coach John Fitzpatrick said. “We had a couple injuries, and we had a couple jayvee guys playing. We had the ‘next guy’ mentality.
“It was very hot, and it was a battle. Souderton is a very good team. It was a real close, exciting end. The last two minutes my defense just shut them down and held them to a 10-9 win.”
Dean Scalamandre was part of seven goals, scoring four goals and assisting with three others. Zazoff and Dylan Kavanagh both had three goals and one assist while Shane Bradley had three assists. Nate Rambo and Sammy Lewis each had one assist.
“We lost our faceoff guy early in the game to an injury,” Fitzpatrick said. “We really had to battle.
“Sean Beverley – we had to put him on the faceoff against their faceoff guy just to create a 50-50, and he did a fantastic job. Max Harar, a senior pole, and Nico Whalen, another senior pole, all did a fantastic job along with Cole Newman, our senior goalie.”
Bradley also was credited with a team high seven ground balls while Kavanagh had five. Harar and Scalamandre both had three ground balls, Zane Moore, Lewis and Nick Colavita each had two goals. Charlie Puccio, Rambo and Luke Walstrum had one ground ball each.
Newman was credited with eight saves in goal in the win.
“This puts us at 10-1, and we’re in the driver’s seat,” Fitzpatrick said. “We’re going to have to continue to rack up the wins. We have Neshaminy on Friday, and they’re one of our rivals. I expect it will be a close game.”
For the visiting Indians, Kobi Bui had five goals and one assist, and John Martin Vince added a pair of goals. Justin Wawrzynek and Ty Quintos each had one goal and one assist, and Jamison McDivitt had three assists. Three players contributed one assist.

Springfield Township 7, Abington 6 (OT)
The Spartans were back at it again.
Austin Maggioncalda scored in overtime, giving the Spartans the win in another thriller – their fourth one-goal game in eight contests.
Making this one especially impressive was the fact that the Spartans – who tied it with less than two minutes remaining on a goal by Luke Gozzard – began overtime down not one but two players.
“We got it to one down, and there was a wild sequence in the middle of the field,” Springfield coach Hank Resch said. “We got it cleared and got it to one of our attackmen, Austin Maggioncalda. He shot from 10 yards and just put it in. It was a good win.”
The Spartans were without Trey DuBose, their standout midfielder, as well as rock solid defenseman Brennan Donnelly, but their teammates – despite being shorthanded – pulled together for the big win.
“Those kids are fighters – they hang in,” Resch said. “It’s a great win. We didn’t necessarily play well, but they hung in.”
The Spartans’ coach credited the strong play of Cameron Dennis, whose hat trick led the way. Gozzard had a pair of goals while Jaxon Weiss added a goal and an assist.
Patrick McMahon was credited with seven saves in goal for the Spartans.
Springfield Township (6-4, 4-2 SOL) will host Central Bucks South on Thursday, and Abington (2-6, 2-2) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Friday.
