Central Bucks West 10, Central Bucks East 9
Paige Gilbert filled a stat sheet with five goals, nine draw controls, eight ground balls and four interceptions, and those numbers don’t take into account the senior’s tremendous will to win.
“Paige Gilbert had an amazing game all over the field,” West coach Nicole Fisher said. “She’s an incredible athlete, and defensively and offensively, she gave her all, for sure.
“She really had an outstanding game with her ball control, winning 50-50 loose balls, on the draw, interceptions. She just had a phenomenal showing.”
The Bucks led 10-8 with four minutes remaining but then withstood a late comeback attempt by the Patriots.
“East had a great draw control and put the ball in the back of the net, and we were only up by one,” Fisher said. “We won the next ball control, had a turnover on the attacking end, and their goalie ended up getting the ball with maybe 30 seconds left.
“She tried to send the ball down the field, but we had an awesome interception by senior Maddie McCusker, and we controlled the ball, got the ball to freshman Kate Weyer, and she held the ball for the remainder of the clock with about 15 seconds.”
In addition to Gilbert, Jada Reichwein had two goals while Meg Weyer, Shelby Hahn and Brooke Deily each added one goal.
Fisher lauded the play of her defense that included Caroline Crecca, Jackie Ebert, Hope Dryden, Emma Schrandt and Maggie McCusker. Margot Haring anchored the defense with 13 saves in goal.
“Margot also had a huge save on a free position with a minute and a half left that was crucial,” Fisher said. “The defense really played as a unit, taking away a lot of options. They worked together, forced a lot of turnovers that helped our momentum.
“Our midfielders – Meg and Kate Weyer and Paige Gilbert – were on the defensive end as well, and Paige, Meg and Shelby Hahn were great leaders on the attacking end.”
The win evened the Bucks’ record at 5-5 in conference play, but more importantly, it gave the Bucks bragging rights in the rivalry game.
“This win was huge,” Fisher said. “I know there’s a big rivalry between West and East, and I know it was an emotional game with a lot of anxious nerves.
“I think that had a little bit of control of the game, but at the same time, I think our players recognized what they wanted to do and executed and controlled as much as they could even with all the pressure of a big East-West game. They did a really great job playing with discipline and composure even when emotions were high.”
Central Bucks West (5-7, 5-5 SOL) will host Garnet Valley on Thursday, and Central Bucks East (5-10, 3-6) will host Central Bucks South on Wednesday.

North Penn 14, Pennridge 13
The Knights nearly saw their Senior Night end on a sour note, thanks to a furious Rams rally, but they held on and picked up the win.
North Penn celebrated its eight seniors – Lily Szilagyi, Alli Lindsay, Kat Rimmer, Caroline Hoy, Laynie Doran, Michelle Park, Maura Schaffer and Julia Yannul – then got off to a strong start by building a 10-6 halftime lead.
“Just all the excitement and all the hoopla that goes along with it – it’s fun, and it’s a great night for the girls,” Knights coach Heather Mellow said. “They’re very excited about it. It was a very exciting night. There was a lot going on. We were playing very well, and we were up 14-8 with two minutes left in the game.”
Szilagyi also got to celebrate a personal milestone as the senior captain scored her 100th career goal on her fifth and final tally of the night.
“Lily had a great game. She had five goals and two assists – it doesn’t get too much better than that,” Mellow said. “She played fantastic tonight.”
When Szilagyi scored her milestone goal that put North Penn up 14-8, the Knights players rushed the field, which resulted in the hosts being charged their final timeout. It also opened the door to a furious finish that saw the Rams nearly come all the way back.
“Momentum just shifted,” Mellow said. “We lost focus, and Pennridge is one of those feisty teams you can’t do that with. They got hungry.
“We were winning most of the draws, but those last four or five draws – they got every single one, scooped them up, and they went to town on us. They went straight down and scored. Got it again, scored, got it again, scored, and there was nothing I could do because I was out of timeouts. If there had been one more minute or not even a minute, they would have tied it up or won the game because they had that momentum going with them at that time.”
In addition to Szilagyi, Rimmer and Jordan Baily each had a hat trick. Lindsay had a pair of goals to go along with four draw controls. Emily Varilla added a goal and an assist as well as three draw controls.
Kayla Stressman chipped in an assist and won eight draw controls.
“Kayla Steersman did an amazing job getting draw controls for us, and she’s been doing that for most of the season,” the Knights’ coach said. “She may not have had a lot of stats tonight, but she really hooked us up with getting control and keeping control when we needed it, and that’s why we went ahead quite a bit at one point.”
Pennridge got scoring from eight different players. Aubrey Maher paced the Rams with four goals and an assist, Maddy Edinger and Grace Rosica each netted two with Rosica adding an assist while the duo of Kate Unzicker and Mackenzie Herbst each tallied a goal and helper. Kendall Posey, Amelia Loughery and Natalie Yilanjian each scored once for the Rams.
“We are still working on completing a game. We go on these waves of working extremely hard and then waves when we hang our heads,” Rams coach Karen Feher said. “The last two minutes of the game, the team turned it on and didn’t go down without a fight. We need more consistency with our effort and play.”
North Penn (8-4, 7-1 SOL) will visit Bensalem at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pennridge (4-11, 3-6) will host Neshaminy in a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday.

Souderton 12, Council Rock South 8
Lauren Hallman turned in an outstanding effort to help the Indians pick an important win and knock the Golden Hawks from the ranks of the undefeated in conference play.
The junior led Souderton with four goals but perhaps even more vital were the 10 draw control wins she secured in the circle.
“She did an unbelievable job on the draw, and she was a huge part of why we held possession, got possession,” Souderton coach Claudia LaMarca said. “She converted on a lot of goals on our end. She definitely controlled the ball off the draw and in the offensive end. She was a huge part of this win today.”
South battled back and played the Indians to a draw in the second half, but Souderton’s strong start – the Indians opened up 6-2 halftime lead – proved to be the difference.
“That was huge for our kids,” LaMarca said of her team opening up an early lead. “They play a backward zone, and that’s not something we see every day or every game, so I think they knew our game plan going in, and they executed really well.
“That made them feel really confident with every possession that followed, so we were able to find success and then replicate that, which obviously made them feel really good and really excited, and it kept that momentum going.”
Reiley Knize had a hat trick for Souderton plus an assist. Isabel John scored a goal and assisted on a pair, Caroline Kelly scored one and assisted another while Clark Trowbridge and Lexi Krebs each added a goal.
Ang Borisow also tacked on a goal and assist to go with her usual hustle play.
“Ang Borisow is a really good field hockey player, so she’s kind of been taking that skill to lacrosse,” LaMarca said. “She plays hard, she fights hard, and she comes up with a lot of really gritty plays, big hustle plays, and she did really, really well today also.”
Courtney Mallon made five saves in goal for the Indians.
Souderton (11-5, 6-4 SOL) will host Methacton at 6:30 on Tuesday. Council Rock South (13-3, 7-1) – one of three teams with one loss atop the conference standings – will visit Pennsbury at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

“(In 2019) we lost to Upper Moreland in the first round of playoffs, so this was a meaningful game for both parties,” Springfield coach Marissa Conover said.
