Quakertown 7-1 8
Cheltenham 1-5 6
Abington 15, Springfield Township 8
The streaking Ghosts opened up a 6-2 halftime lead on the way to their fifth straight win.
Leading the Ghosts were Lesha Karaba and Maddie Hinkle with four goals each. Shea Gormley and Abby Johnson both contributed a hat trick while Avery Sullivan had one goal.
Chloe Herghelegiu was credited with 12 saves in goal,
“Our defense did such an amazing job today,” Abington coach Amalie Kreitman said of Audrey Silverman, Zoe Freedman, Caroline Hughes and Lilly Alessandro. “They all talked and slid and doubled and didn’t let anyone in.
“Our attack moved the ball so well and was able to see the open girls. It was a great game.”
For the Spartans, Maddie Yoder’s five goals led the way. Lauren Corrado added a goal and an assist. Fiona Rizzo and Emma Yoder added one goal while Stella Nelson and Sheila Nelson both had one assist.
“I’m super proud of Molly McGoldrick and our defense who played a really solid game,” Springfield coach Marissa Conover. “Overall, Abington played a really tight game – they’ve taken the concept of cutters in the fundamentals of lacrosse, and their attack has truly bought into it, which I think is one of the reasons for their high score – it was a really great game of lacrosse on both sides.
“Maddie Yoder was able to come up with possession of the draw and bring it down the field, but their ‘D’ was able to hold us and slow us down.
“Ella Marino suffered an injury early on which took her out of the game, which I think also impacted the game/score/outcome. Shannon Meder was able to step up on mid seamlessly and play an awesome game. I think it’s really hard to ‘fill someone’s shoes’ like Ella or Maddie and not have the game feel like it’s falling apart – because there is just so much talent there. And Meder was able to hold the team together and play some fantastic lacrosse while doing so. I’m really proud of her.
“Lauren Corrado deserves a shoutout as well who really was able to step up and show herself this game – we were able to see her really show up and it was fun to watch her play.”
Abington (7-4, 6-3 SOL) will host William Tennent on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and Springfield Township (12-4, 7-3) will be on the road at Upper Dublin on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
