WILLIAM TENNENT 2, HOLY GHOST PREP 2 (OT)
The Panthers rebounded from a shutout loss to Roman Catholic less than 24 hours earlier to battle the Firebirds to a tie.
“Two overtimes couldn’t decide the winner with both teams getting chances,” Tennent coach Nick D’Andrea said. “I was very pleased with our effort today following a short turnaround after playing last night.
“Back-to-backs are always tough, especially less than 24 hours apart.”
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first when Ryan Kerr finished a follow-up of a shot by Jimmy Manning. The Firebirds responded with the equalizer, and the two teams went into halftime deadlocked 1-1.
Holy Ghost converted a penalty kick to take a 2-1 lead, but Matt Jenkins knotted the score on a head ball goal.”

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 4, PENNCREST 1
Taylor Moyer didn’t find the net, but the senior captain – the focal point Penncrest’s defense – was still a force, assisting on three goals to lead the Bucks to the decisive win in Saturday’s non-league opener.
“They were doubling her, and she’s going to see that every game,” West coach Mike Moyer said. “It’s good when other girls step up and put the ball away. It takes pressure off her.”
Shea Lubin – who had a pair of goals – put the Bucks on the scoreboard eight minutes into the contest, using a Moyer assist, and then it was Ava Longo scoring an unassisted goal during a scramble after a corner kick.
“She hit a great shot,” Moyer said.
Penncrest responded with a goal to make it a 2-1 game.
“It was really the only chance they had,” Moyer said. “They had a free kick from about 40 out, and they played it into the box. We just couldn’t clear it. The ball hit off Courtney Moylan’s back and went up and over my goalie. It was kind of a fluke goal.”
Moylan answered with a goal for the Bucks, turning a Moyer corner kick into a goal and a 3-1 West lead heading into halftime.
“It was a beautiful head goal,” Moyer said. “The second half we had it in their offensive end the whole time, but we just couldn’t score. We had numerous chances. Finally, with about 15 minutes left. Taylor found Shea again, and Shea had a really good misdirection toe poke over the goalie to give us the 4-1 win.”
Moyer credited the efforts of several players in the win.
“Kate Weyer, my outside left back, was awesome today,” the Bucks’ coach said. “Riley Corona again was all hustle, and Rian Detweiler, a freshman, came off the bench and just was a boost of energy up top. She gave us great minutes up top today.”
Central Bucks West (1-0) will travel to North Penn for Thursday’s SOL opener.

PENNRIDGE 8, PALISADES 0
Sierra Shaeffer spends her time on the pitch preventing goals. In Saturday’s opener, the Rams goalkeeper scored her first high school goal, capping a dominant effort on both sides of the ball by the Rams.
“She’s such a great teammate,” coach Audrey Anderson said of Shaeffer, a natural field player who has put the team first the last two seasons by playing goalie. “She’s playing in goal because it’s what’s best for the team but not necessarily best for her. That goal was a real highlight for Sierra and the team.”
Sophia Craig led the high-powered Rams’ attack, connecting for three goals and assisting on two others. Olivia Grenda had a hand in four goals, scoring twice and assisting on two others.
It was Grenda finding the net with an unassisted goal four minutes into the contest, and the Rams led 2-0 after a goal by Hailey Primwhere (Craig assist) in the 35th minute. They took that 2-0 lead into halftime.
Grenda’s unassisted goal in the 42nd minute set the stage for a highlight reel sequence by Craig, who scored three straight goals in a 13-minute span. Grenda assisted on the first two and Joey Tomlinson was credited with an assist on the third. Goals by Tomlinson (Craig assist) and Shaeffer (Ryan Hodder assist) closed out the scoring.
“It was great to get the season underway,” Anderson said. “Pennridge got off to a slow start the first half and had a hard time breaking down a very organized Palisades side.”

PENNSBURY 2, UNIONVILLE 0
The Falcons bounced back from a loss to Downingtown West less than 24 hours earlier to defeat the host team in Saturday’s second of back-to-back games at the event hosted by Unionville.
Taylor Mays put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the fourth minute, using a Sarah Tuohy assist. Tuohy added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute for the 2-0 final.
Coach Kaitlyn Battiste lauded the performance of her squad.
“Emma Corso has been really strong in goal for us,” the Falcons’ coach said. “We have a whole new back line in front of her, and they’ve been adapting as quickly as they can in this disjointed preseason. Rena Paoni has consistently played well in the back.
“Sarah Tuohy has done really well distributing the ball and had a beautiful strike today. Taylor Mays continues to be a consistent threat up top. She had a second great goal to end the game – it found the back of the net, but time had just expired. Sam Strausbaugh and Jill Haley battled on both sides of the ball yesterday and today and will be key pieces for us as the season progresses. We learned a lot this weekend and are excited to build from these games.”
Pennsbury (1-1) will be on the road at Bensalem for Thursday’s SOL opener.
