COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 8, HARRY S TRUMAN 1
It was quite a spectacular opening day of league play for the visiting Indians on Friday. Eight different players scored in a contest that saw the Indians open up a 4-1 halftime lead and then tack on four more goals in the second half.
“It was a total team effort as 24 of the 26 rostered players logged 20 minutes or more,” Rock North coach Joe Stackhouse said. “Four of the scorers were from the Indians’ talented sophomore class.”
Alexander Diaz opened the scoring four minutes in on a corner kick head ball. Rocco Montierro, Nick Wise and Mike Pinho added tallies before intermission. The second half saw Andrew Bower, Simon Rupp, Keertan Palyam and Ari Pollack all find the back of the net.
Bobby Snyder went the distance in net for North, making two saves.
“The backfield grouping of Jeremy Kamp, Ryan Muroff, Dom Wagner, Connor Cell and James McCullough kept the Truman offense in check all afternoon,” Stackhouse said. “Truman goalkeeper Sebastian Hamilton kept the match from going to double digits with many spectacular saves.” Truman’s lone goal was scored by Juan Ramirez.
“Man of the match for Truman was Ayoub Fask, who was outstanding up and down the field,” Stackhouse said.
Council Rock North (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will face Council Rock South on Tuesday, and Harry S Truman (0-2, 0-1) will be on the road at Bensalem on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 2, CHELTENHAM 1
The Panthers played an SOL game for the first time in two years, and the game got off to a promising start as they opened up a 1-0 lead on a goal by Cameron Rhoades.
“It was a great goal on the back post that was finished far corner,” said Tennent coach Nick D’Andrea. “They missed another chance right before the goal and had plenty of chances throughout the game including late.”
The Panthers evened the score when Aidan Markowski connected off a corner kick from Bryce deFonteny. The two teams went into halftime deadlocked 1-1. Tennent’s Paul Nedeoglo scored on a head ball off a nice cross by Connor Hanratty for a goal that turned out to be the game-winner.
D’Andrea credited the standout effort of Cheltenham keeper Beck Toledo.
“Their goalie made three saves, starting with a penalty kick where he stoned the Tennent shooter multiple times, triggering momentum,” D’Andrea said.
Interestingly, Toledo was pressed into emergency duty when Cheltenham coach Bill Tonkin was without both his starter and his back-up.
“My third string goalie, Beck Toledo, was really good today with three or four unbelievable saves,” the Panthers’ coach said. “He really kept us in the game in the first half.”
William Tennent (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Springfield Township on Tuesday, and Cheltenham (0-1) will be on the road at Upper Moreland on Tuesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 2, DOWNINGTOWN EAST 1
The Titans notched an impressive road win, defeating the Cougars in a hard-fought non-league contest.
“It was a very competitive game,” South coach Joe Coscia said. “Lots of praise for Downingtown East players and coaches.”
South took a 1-0 lead into halftime, thanks to a goal by Jaimin Fee (Thijs Popma assist). The Cougars rallied to knot the score, but AJ Peev found the back of the net with the game-winner, using an assist from Jeremy Chen.
“It was a great performance by the back line – Aidan Davis, Logan Campbell, Dennis Cleary, Eric Green and Mike Monser,” Coscia said. “It was an excellent first varsity start for goalkeeper Aydan Horniak.”
Central Bucks South (1-0-1, 0-0-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks West on Tuesday.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 8, NEW FOUNDATIONS CHARTER 0
Frankie Rafferty connected for a hat trick in a non-league contest that saw six different players contribute goals.
“New Foundations is struggling with numbers amid the pandemic and was overmatched,” Rock South coach Alan Nicholl said. “CRS played a young squad, and it was a nice opportunity to get our freshmen and some JV guys substantial game time. It was a nice change from our usual hard-fought SOL grind that we’re used to, so I’ll take it.”
Adding single goals for the Golden Hawks were Gavin Hagan, Andrew Lindros, Everett Kurtz, Cooper Walters and Ronan Harding.
“I was particularly happy for varsity debutants Garrett Cohen, Nick Lanza, Alex Bloom, Denys Tsinyk, Tyler Derby and Evan Zawodniak,” Nicholl said.
Council Rock South (2-0, 1-0 SOL) will take on Council Rock North on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 4, CHELTENHAM 1
Friday’s SOL opener, according to Tennent coach Bill Hontz, started and finished with two nice goals by his squad.
“Kaitlin Frank scored two minutes into the game, and Ari Grose scored in the 85th minute,” The Panthers’ coach said. “The time in between could have gone either way with both teams having chances to score.
“Cheltenham is well coached, and the game was a lot closer than the score represents.”
Frank and Grose accounted for all of the Panthers’ scores as both players finished with a pair of goals.
“It was nice to finally play the game and start the new year off with a win,” Hontz said. “Kayla Kulp played keeper in the second half with a clean sheet.
“Jackie Sowers and Tori Jones turned in good games at midfield, and Jules Colella played a solid defensive game.”
William Tennent (1-0 SOL) will travel to Upper Darby Monday for a non-league game. Cheltenham (0-1) will be on the road at Harry S Truman for a non-league game on Saturday.

SOUDERTON 1, ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 0
Avery Nogami notched her third goal of the season in as many games less than three minutes into Friday’s match. The senior captain’s long-range effort was enough to edge the visiting Patriots and notch their first win of the young season.
“We were able to generate upwards of 20 shots, but with little to show for it other than the initial goal,” coach Ian Smith said. Our team did a better job of trying to slow things down and connect passes throughout the match, as we experimented with a number of formations and new looks with different personnel. Getting a win under our belts was a step in the right direction, and next week we will look to make greater improvements to put together a full 80-minute performance.”
Smith had high praise for his team’s defensive effort.
“Our defense, led by junior captain Maggie Fisher, worked to communicate and notch the first shutout of the season after letting in nine goals in the first two games,” the Indians’ coach said. “Our backline looked well organized and in control, with significant contributions from Abby Kolb (junior) and Mykaela Ruth (freshman). They will carry that momentum with them into next week’s games. Now we will look ahead to returning to in-conference play against a well-organized Central Bucks East team on Tuesday.”
Souderton (1-2, 0-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks East on Tuesday.

North Penn (1-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Pennridge on Tuesday.
