HATBORO-HORSHAM 2, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
The Hatters picked up their second shutout win of the young season.
“Any time you get a win against that side of the Suburban One League is a good win,” Hatters’ coach Kyle McGrath said. “I know all those coaches from the time we were in the Continental. It’s a real good win for us today.”
The Hatters took a 1-0 lead late in the opening half on a goal by Jacob Kim.
“CB East in the first half was the better team, I would say,” McGrath said. “We dodged some bullets. My goalkeeper – Noah Schlosser – made a point blank save about halfway through the half. They were misfiring a little bit.
“The last two minutes of the first half, we earned a corner kick. A ball came in, we ran our one play – they cleared the initial ball, but it came to my center back, Jacob Kim. He took a touch, and from 25-26 yards out, he hit a half volley that bent in off the far post and into the goal for the first goal of the game.”
The 1-0 lead stood until five minutes remained in regulation when Tommy Harmon scored an insurance goal.
“The second half was pretty even,” McGrath said. “We had periods of pressure, they had periods of pressure. My goalkeeper made a great save right on the goal line off of a restart to keep it 1-0.
“Then we were able to score a counterattack goal, a real nice counterattack after a restart by them. It was a nice combination from Jacob Freedman and Lucas Howieson. Howie put it across the box, and Tommy Harmon finished it.”
The Hatters’ coach credited the efforts of his defense.
“Jacob Kim scored a goal, and any time you can get a goal from a center back is a bonus,” McGrath said. “Caleb Hudson, our center back, played great.
“Our center midfielders again were very good handling their best player, #10 (Brandon) Epstein. Freedman was outstanding again. I was just overall very pleased with the performance against a good side.”
Schlosser was credited with eight saves for his second clean sheet in as many games.
Hatboro-Horsham (2-0, 1-0 SOL) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m., and Central Bucks East (0-1-1, 0-0-1) will travel to Palisades for a non-league game Monday.

SOUDERTON 2, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
It’s been more than a decade since Souderton last faced Rock North and eked out a shootout win in a district playoff contest. The two teams – according to Souderton coach Matt Benner – haven’t done battle since. Until Saturday when the visiting Indians – in crossover game – eked out a win over Rock North.
“I think that our boys recognized the importance of every single game that we play, that we can’t take anything for granted and that every team that we play is a good team,” Souderton coach Matt Benner said. “Council Rock North has a lot of players that work really, really hard and create opportunities and didn’t stop until the final whistle.
“There were periods of play when I thought we were better than them, but towards the end, they had a lot of really good play and put us on our heels and took the game to us. We needed everybody to see out that result. I give a lot of credit to their coaching staff and their boys. They’re a little bit of a younger team than they had been in past years, and they were good, they were really good. They have a bright future.”
Thomas Smith put Souderton on the scoreboard, turning a Ty Quintois pass into a goal in the 15th minute. That lead grew to 2-0 when Ryan Schewe – also with a Quintois assist – found the net in the 54th minute. Rock North answered with a goal two minutes later for the 2-1 final.
Benner credited the strong play of his defense comprised of Tyson Bui, Tyler Bovell, Thomas Smith and Ryan Shewe.
“Our backline did a really nice job,” Benner said. “Our backline, for the most part, kept Council Rock away from our box and didn’t require Aidan McClure to make a ton of saves. The goal that they scored was a fantastic goal. The kid hit a phenomenal shot from outside the box that went off the post and went in, so full credit to him.
“Besides that, I thought our backline did a nice job of limiting their chances and keeping things out of our box.”
McClure was credited with four saves in the win.
Souderton (2-0-1, 0-0-1 SOL) will host Central Bucks East on Tuesday (7 p.m.). Council Rock North (1-2, 1-0 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Tuesday.

CHELTENHAM 1, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
The Lady Panthers notched a shutout in Saturday’s non-league contest at Truman.
Taden Versaw-Barnes scored off a great cross from Lola Jahss in the opening half. That 1-0 lead stood the rest of the way.
“After a tough loss yesterday (2-1 to William Tennent), it was great to bounce back today with a hard-fought win,” Cheltenham coach Leah Matusow said. “It was a team effort with positive energy coming from on and off the field.
“Truman came out strong in the second half, and we really had to work hard in our end of the field. Amaya Washington played a fantastic game in goal, making some incredible saves to secure the shutout.”
Cheltenham (1-1, 0-1 SOL) will be on the road at Norristown on Monday for a non-league game. Harry S Truman (0-2, 0-1) will host Bensalem on Tuesday.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, WILSON-WEST LAWN 1
On the heels of a loss to North Penn two days earlier, the Bucks came out on fire, opening up a 3-0 lead before halftime on their way to the bounce-back win.
“We were still upset with how we played against North Penn because we just didn’t show up to that game and we were trying to play from behind,” West coach Mike Moyer said. “We had a good day of practice yesterday, and the girls came in focused today. Wilson was really good. They were so dynamic up top. Their forwards were the best I’ve seen.
“Every year I try and get some good non-league games in, and they’re a monster in District 3. It’s early, but we played our best game. We were good, we were physical, we were fast. We were just flying in the first half, and I think we shocked them. They’ve been winning pretty easily, and we went up 3-0 on them.”
The Bucks got on the scoreboard 15 minutes into the game on a goal by Alexis Castro.
“Alexis Castro hit a bullet from 30 yards out – the goalie didn’t even have a chance,” Moyer said. “It was such a great strike, and that set the tone for us.
“We just kept pressuring them. My forwards today – Shea Lubin played an unbelievable game. Shea, Taylor (Moyer) and Riley (Corona) and even Rian Detweiler matched the dynamicness of Wilson, and they were just a lot to handle today. We had a lot of corner kicks, we had a lot of big throws, we had a lot of set pieces.”
Midway through the first half, the Bucks went on top 2-0 on a great shot by Taylor Moyer with a Shea Lubin assist.
“We still kept pressuring them, and they just weren’t getting settled in,” Moyer said. “We were really just firing on all cylinders, and five minutes later, Taylor (Moyer) struck again, this time with another great pass, this time from Riley Corona.
“After we go up 3-0, we’re still pressuring and still playing well. My defense was great, and then all of a sudden, something clicked with Wilson, and the last five minutes of the half, they really took it to us. Jules Broskey, my goalie, made three outstanding one-on-one saves and really just kept us in the game.”
With two minutes remaining in the half, Wilson got on the scoreboard with a goal that made it a 3-1 game. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
“We made a couple of adjustments in the second half and really kind of controlled everything,” Moyer said. “We wanted to keep their two girls up top – we wanted to keep their backs to goal.
“My defense was great today. Kate Weyer – I think #10 on that team was probably the best girl she’s going to see all year, and she just did an outstanding job shutting her down. Mariella Neri, Ava Longo and Courtney Moylan just played fantastic in the back. Alexis Castro, Eva Wierzbowski and Taylor Madden were just great in the midfield.
“It was just an all-around great team effort today. I feel like we finally got all 11 girls on the same page. We’ve got a lot of new faces this year, we’re still trying to figure out our identity. I’ve got a ton of girls that this is their first year of playing varsity. We don’t shy away from competition. We like playing playoff teams. That’s what it’s all about. We played well, we defended well. They can enjoy this and get ready for a tough week ahead.”
Central Bucks West (2-1, 0-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest.

PENNRIDGE 5, QUAKERTOWN 0
It was Community Night Gold Out when the Rams faced Quakertown at Helman Field in their annual rivalry game. The night raised money to fight pediatric cancer with both teams wearing gold laces representing Go4theGoal. The night included a Deep Run Youth match at halftime of the JV game and a first responders tribute at halftime of the varsity match.
“It was a great night celebrating and thanking our community for all of their support for our program as well as celebrate our state championship for the first time,” coach Audrey Anderson said. “It’s always special for the young girls in our community to walk on the field and talk to our girls. They look up to them so much, and it makes for a memorable night for everyone.
“Our girls signed autographs, took pictures and did a great job with these girls who will be the future of our program. We also got to honor first responders who made our state championship incredibly memorable, which was a real highlight as well.”
The Rams also took care of business on the pitch. A goal by Liz Grenda spotted the Rams an early lead, and then it was Emily Kriney finding the net to put the Rams on top 2-0 just over 10 minutes into the contest. Five minutes later, Grenda connected for her second goal, and when Joey Tomlinson scored with 10 minutes remaining in the opening half, the Rams had a 4-0 advantage.
That 4-0 score stood until Sophie Craig scored with 11 minutes remaining in the contest.
Pennridge (3-0, 1-0 SOL) will travel to North Penn on Tuesday, and Quakertown (1-1 1-0) will host Upper Dublin on Monday.
