SOL National Conference
PENNSBURY 11, NORTH PENN 10 (OT)
It was a Senior Night to remember for Pennsbury’s 13 seniors. With 90 seconds remaining in the first overtime Jack Kalinowski turned a Kolby Ranniello pass into the game-winner, giving the Falcons the win in an emotionally charged OT thriller.
“We traded possessions in overtime, and we were both out of timeouts,” Pennsbury coach Dean Curtis said. “The ball was coming down our way, and we got a fast break, and Kolby Ranniello fed Jack Kalinowski for his seventh goal to win the game on Senior Night.”
The Falcons, who trailed 3-2 after one quarter, took a 6-5 lead into halftime. The end of regulation was a roller coaster of emotions for both sides.
“They scored with less than a second on the clock in the third quarter to make it 8-7,” Curtis said. “We started the fourth quarter, and we scored two quick goals to go up by three.
“With less than five minutes left, they scored three goals in a matter of a minute-and-a-half to tie the game.”
That set the stage for OT and the Falcons’ big win.
Kalinowski’s 8-point night (7 goals, 1 assist) led the Falcons. Also contributing to the scoring for the Falcons were Mike DeZutel (2 goals), Ranniello (1 goal, 1 assist), Kyle Rinehimer (1 goal) and Will Taylor (1 assist).
“Jack Kalinowski had an eight-point night, but he doesn’t have that without the supporting cast,” Curtis said. “Our offense played so unselfishly tonight. Jack had a great game, but he benefitted from the unselfish play of the rest of his teammates.
“Hats off to juniors Kolby Ranniello, Will Taylor, Mike DeZutel and seniors Wes Carty, Shane Siegmund and Kyle Rinehimer for doing the little things to set up their teammates for success.”
Curtis had high praise for some of the game’s unsung heroes.
“Braxton Furiness, Haydon Massengill and Saxon Dobos made some big stops against their attack late in the game to earn possession back for our offense,” the Falcons’ coach said. “I am super proud of Pat Kirk for his effort tonight on the ball and in the clearing game.
“Defensively, the unsung heroes are our defensive midfielders Troy Haynes, Reece Millman and Jeff Priog who were tested with some very tough match-ups.
“We have faced adversity as a team this season, all teams do. I am just so thankful for the competitive spirit the kids are playing with here at the end of the season.”
