SOL National Conference
PENNSBURY 13, PENNRIDGE 12 (OT)
Twenty-one seconds.
That’s all the time it took for Riley Borgman to find the net for the dramatic overtime game-winner in Monday’s classic battle between two of the SOL’s top teams.
“We knew we had to win the draw and take possession,” Pennsbury coach Marguerite Piccolo said. “Grace Holmes won the draw, and we moved the ball quickly on attack. Freshman Sasha Dobos made a beautiful pass to Riley Borgman who put it away. It was just a phenomenal series of passes. I’m so proud of them, they never gave up.”
No one would have predicted overtime when the Falcons came out and took an early lead.
“We came out on fire, taking the lead by four goals,” Piccolo said. “Mia Popovich scored the first three goals.
“Pennridge closed the gap. From there, the game became really exciting, and nerve-racking for us coaches. We knew Pennridge was going to fight till the end- they have very talented players, and their back-check is phenomenal.”
The second half was a roller coaster ride for both squads. The Falcons, who took a 7-5 lead into halftime, scored the first goal of the second half, but the Rams answered with four straight to go on top 9-8. The Falcons had an immediate answer, knotting the score 9-9.
Pennridge regained a one-goal lead with 10:52 remaining and held that lead until just under six minutes remained and the Falcons tied the score yet again.
“We took the lead, and they tied it up,” Piccolo said. “Then they took the lead with 1:21 left, and Liv Graebner scored the tying goal with 57 seconds remaining.”
That set the stage for OT and Borgman’s game-winner. Popovich finished with four goals, Holmes had four goals and one assist and Graebner had a hat trick. Dobos had a goal and an assist. Borgman had one goal for the game-winner and Lily Abraham had an assist.
“Today was definitely a team effort,” Piccolo said. “Our defense – Chelsea Todd, Annie Cimochowski, Abby McCole – did well and caused some turnovers. Kema Brown had some critical saves and cleared the ball well.
“Pennridge is a very good team. They have a lot of talented players. This was a huge win for us.”
Brown finished with nine saves.
Pennsbury (13-3, 9-0 SOL) will be on the road at North Penn on Wednesday. A win would give the Falcons sole possession of the conference crown. Pennridge (11-6, 7-3) will travel to Mount St. Joseph Academy for a non-league game Wednesday.

It all added up to a memorable Senior Night for the Titans.
“The CB South girls’ team had a fantastic night with multiple celebrations,” South coach Janique Craig said. “We celebrated our six amazing seniors: Gabby Mayo, Grace Gannon, Lauren Michener, Kelsey Steel, Lindsay Cram, and Cam Grosso.
“We also celebrated Gabby Mayo’s 400th save, which happened in the Horsham game on Friday. She ended tonight with 422 saves so far this year. We also had our senior captain Grace Gannon enter her first game of the season.”

“In the first half tonight, it was a pretty tight game, going back and forth. CB South had a four-goal lead,10-6, during the first half, and Council Rock North did a great job coming back, scoring three goals within the last 1:56 of the first half, making it 10-9 CB South.”
The Titans outscored their visitors 5-2 in the second half.
“Council Rock North had a few important caused turnovers that almost changed the game,” Craig said. “Gabby Mayo in goal came up big with some important saves at the end of the game and totaled 16 saves for the game.

NORTH PENN 17, SOUDERTON 8
The Knights found themselves deadlocked with the Indians at halftime but came out of halftime and seized control of the game, outscoring the Indians 11-2 in the second half on their way to the decisive win.
“We got off to a slow start in the first half – it felt like our energy level was really low,” North Penn coach Heather Mellow said. “At the half, we discussed picking up our level of play, communicating better on defense, working smarter on offense.
“Thankfully, these ladies went back out in the second half and executed what we talked about. It turned out to be a good win for us.”
Kayla Stressman had another big game for the Knights, finishing with five goals and one assist to go along with 11 draw controls. Lauren Blanch was once again the second half of the Knights’ dangerous one-two punch, contributing five goals and three draw controls. Olivia Meakim scored an overtime goal, propelling the Golden Bears to the heartstopping win in a battle with title implications for both sides. The win created a three-way tie at the top of the conference standings.
“The first draw in overtime was won by Allison LaRocco which was absolutely key to our success,” said UM coach Kim Frantz. “We were able to go to attack and set up, we were patient and settled and then Olivia Meakim saw a hole and went to goal to make the shot to win the game.”
The win knocked the Cardinals from the ranks of the undefeated in conference play. UD, UM and Springfield Township all boast identical 9-1 records with one conference game remaining.
“Everyone played a part in this very big win tonight,” Frantz said. “Upper Dublin is always a well-coached tough competitor. We knew going into this game what was at stake and knew we had to play our hearts out if we wanted to win.
“I told the girls heart is what will win this game, and they proved that today. When you can win a game and be down a player for the last almost four minutes and then in overtime, it takes a ton of heart to keep working. We never gave up even when UD was up a player and up a goal with less than two minutes left in the game.”
Annalise Messina’s five goals and one assist led UM while Meakim had two goals. Reagan Cummins had one goal and two assists, and Isabel Leiter had one goal and one assist. Jenna Piatieri had one goal, and Willow Taylor added an assist.
“The game started off very rocky with a yellow card in the first two minutes of the game,” Frantz said. “Our defense was able to hold off UD from scoring even with being down a player. The defense had to do that three more times throughout the game and was able to keep UD from scoring.
“We went up with a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. UD battled back and scored three unanswered goals with a 3-2 lead. In the last two minutes, Willow had a key assist to Jenna Piatieri to take us into halftime with a lead.”
The Golden Bears led 4-3 at the intermission.
“In the second half, we were able to score to make the score 5-3,” Frantz said. “UD then tied up the game around minute 17. Scoring went back and forth until UD took the lead 9-8 with 1:49 left in the game.
“Our defense came up big again and was able to get the ball back with 49 seconds left. Reagan Cummins’ seniority showed its colors tonight as she took control of the ball and drove to the net where she was able to get an 8m penalty. With 25 seconds left Reagan scored the tying goal to make the score 9-9. Time ran out and we went to overtime.”
Frantz lauded the play of her defense and goalie Addi Hurley (11 saves).
Our defense – Cambrie Richmond, Avary Adamski, Kellen Distel, Charlotte James and goalie Addi Hurley – were a huge part of this win,” the UM coach said. “Addi Hurley really had some key saves in the game.
“The game was incredible, Upper Dublin played a great game and did a great job at making us make mistakes.”
For the Cardinals, Anna DiMartile and Paige Dinkel each had four goals. DiMartile also had five draw controls and three caused turnovers while Dinkel had three draw controls and one caused turnover. Ava Brennan added one goal.
Abby O’Meara (1 DC, 2 CTO), Ava Shohen (2 DC) and Ali Gay (2 CTO) also made important contributions for UD.
“This was a tough loss,” UD coach Dee Cross said. “We were so close but couldn’t close it out. Kudos to Upper Moreland. They are an experienced team and did what they had to do to win.
“Our whole defense is sophomores and freshmen, and I could not have asked for any more out of them. The girls played their hearts out all over the field, and sometimes it is just not meant to be. This one hurts right now, but it will make us better in the long run and get us ready for the playoffs.”
Upper Dublin (13-4, 9-1 SOL) will host Cheltenham Wednesday, and Upper Moreland (15-2, 9-1) will travel to William Tennent on Wednesday.
