SOL Colonial Division
Central Bucks South 51, Souderton 50
The division co-leaders are two of the hottest teams in District One, and this one lived up to the billing, especially late, as CB South rallied from eight points down, took the lead with a Ben Harrison bucket and then held off Souderton defensively for the one-point road win on Tuesday night.
“We haven’t had one like this in a while,” said Titans’ coach Louie Ditri. “Obviously, we knew it was going to be a battle, against a good team – we both were 4-0 (in the division) – and my two least favorite places to play are Souderton and Pennridge. It’s a long bus ride, and not practicing for two days, is a recipe for not shooting well. I think the score at halftime was 18-16.”
Key Players: For CB South, Ben Harrison (12 points, 9 in second half), Connor Thompson (9 points, 2 3-pointers in 4th quarter), Kayode Adebayo (8 points).
For Souderton, Chanse Salone (15 points), Trey Bui (12 points).
CB South coach Louie Ditri on the win: “(Souderton) got hot in the third quarter. No. 1 (Chanse Salone) and 11 (Trey Bui), are two good offensive players. (Salone) started getting hot a little bit, had some transition buckets and they built an eight or nine-point lead. We chiseled it down, and Danny Gies hit a half-court 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut it to two.
“The fourth quarter was back-and-forth for the most part. I think the biggest lead was three or four points. Defensively, we buckled down. Danny Gies did a great job on (Salone). That was pretty much the difference.
“Our bench guys were huge tonight. Kayode (Adebayo), our backup center, played great defense, and he deflected the in-bounds pass in the last two seconds and (Souderton) wasn’t able to get the shot off.”
–Down the stretch: “We were down one with 17 seconds left. They took the lead, and we called timeout and drew up a play. Ben Harrison drove the lane, and put a two-footer in. He was confident taking the shot. It’s great to see.
“There was about eight seconds left. We took a foul at half court with two seconds left. We had a foul to give. They took it in-bounds under our basket. We got the foul and put the big man (Adebayo) over the ball.”
–Sole possession of first place: “(Souderton has) been having a great season. They’ve had some big wins themselves. It was a battle. We haven’t won there in years. Souderton’s coach (Okoteh Sackitey) is doing a great job. He only plays about six guys and does a phenomenal job. I told our guys, these are the types of games we’re going to have going forward.”
Next up: Central Bucks South (10-3, 5-0 SOL) will be on the road at Harry S Truman for a non-league game Friday, and Souderton (9-3, 4-1) will travel to Pennsbury for a non-league game Thursday.

North Penn 72, Central Bucks East 52
Having lost five of six games going to CB East, North Penn needed a win, and with a dominant second half, the Knights walked away with a big road victory.
“I thought that we did a really good job of execution, especially in the second half,” said first-year Knights coach Cordell Lord. “We came up with a couple of ideas that we wanted the boys to go out and execute. At the end of the day, it was all praise to the boys for really staying the course, staying locked in on the game plan and just executing and doing the things we were telling them to do.”
North Penn went 13-for-16 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Key Players: For North Penn, Lee Hammond (19 points, 14-16 FT), Ahmaar Godhania (17 points, 2 3-pointers), Gabe Altemus (15 points, 3 3-pointers).
For CB East, AJ Molnar (17 points), Nolan Behm (16 points).
North Penn coach Cordell Lord on the win: “Every time they made a mistake, our biggest thing was, ‘Stay the course tonight. Don’t get frustrated. We can’t crumble. We just have to have the ‘next play’ mentality, stay the course and keep playing.”
–Importance of win: “It was definitely big. We know what we can put together in the locker room and on this staff. We know the potential that is there. With the schedule we’ve had through the month of December with so many games in such little time, it’s definitely been tough.
“At the end of the day, it’s really important for us to understand and know – it’s not over yet, but it’s now or never, and it’s time to start piecing some of the stuff together. We’ve had some really good individual conversations with guys over the last couple of days.
“It’s a big testament to these kids for how much trust they have in us and how confident they can be in themselves.”
–Props: “Our four seniors knew that tonight was a really big game with their careers on the line a little bit and being a little bit of a must-win. Our seniors – especially Gabe Altemus and Lee Hammond – were fantastic tonight, absolutely fantastic. They did everything on the offensive and defensive end, they were extremely aggressive and played with a ton of confidence.
“Lee got to the free throw line 16 times and shot 14-for-16 from the line. Gabe played with just a lot of energy and knocked down some really big shots from the 3-point line. Ahmaar (Godhani) and Aiden (Atkinson) were what they’ve been all year, which is really big for us in terms of being aggressive, getting into the lane.
“Aiden really came out in the second half and played a lot more aggressive. You could tell it brought a different style and brand to our team.”
–Looking ahead: “We’re hoping we can keep it rolling. We know we have a really big game on Friday against Bensalem. The best thing is that we finally have two days to prepare for a team. We have not had a lot of that, so we’re hoping we can really take advantage of these two days to prepare for Bensalem, and hopefully, we can go out there and play with the same type of energy that we did today so that we’re able to try and turn the corner a little bit here on the second half of the season.”
Next up: Central Bucks East (10-3, 2-3 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South Thursday for a non-league game, and North Penn (5-9, 2-3) will be on the road at Bensalem for a non-league contest Friday.
North Penn (72) – Ahmaar Godhania 17, Lee Hammond 19, Aiden Atkinson 14, JC Wood 5, Wyatt Martin 2, Gabe Altemus 15.

Pennridge 48, Central Bucks West 37
Close and low scoring for most of the first three quarters, Pennridge pulled away with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch to snap a two-game losing streak on Tuesday.
Pennridge went 9-for-11 from the line for the game, led by Xavier Peters, who went 7-for-8.
Key Players: For Pennridge, Marley Steward (16 points), Xavier Peters (16 points).
For CB West, Connor Chuo (16 points, 4 3-pointers), Roman Kulesa (13 points).
Pennridge coach Dean Behrens on the win: “This game was nip and tuck in the first half. Both teams were struggling putting the ball in the basket. What was it -18-17 at the half? We were up 17-10 three minutes left half, they went on a 8-0 run, and we’re down one at half.
“At one point, it was 22-22 in the middle of the third quarter. It was really low scoring. We got up on them like two possessions, and it seemed like a zillion points. It was a huge lead in a game like this.”
–Props: “It was a breakout game for Marley Steward. He had 16 points and was tremendous on the boards. I thought he was the difference on the offensive end, when everybody was having trouble putting it into the basket. He also guarded (Roman) Kulesa the whole game, so he extended himself on both ends tonight.”
Next up: Pennridge (6-5, 2-3 SOL) will be on the road at Council Rock North for a non-league game Friday, and Central Bucks West (4-10, 0-5) will travel to Council Rock South Friday for a non-league game.

SOL Patriot Division
Pennsbury 60, Council Rock South 59 (OT)
Mike Roccograndi scored in the paint with five seconds remaining in overtime, and then a 3-pointer on the other end was off the mark as Pennsbury pulled out a close on in Patriot Division play on Tuesday night.
“It was a great high school basketball game,” said Falcons coach Wes Emme. “It was back and forth, back and forth, back and forth even leading up to the overtime.”
Key Players: For Pennsbury, Max Manga (13 points, 10 rebounds), Pat Jajua (10 points, 7 rebounds), Grayson Gozum (14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists), Mike Roccograndi (14 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists).
For CR South, Ryan Delp (20 points, 5 rebounds) and MJ Thompson (13 points, 6 assists).
Pennsbury coach Wes Emme on the game: “We jumped on them in the first quarter. They do a really nice job of settling into the game and getting back into it. It was tied at halftime. We take a big lead in the third quarter (12 points), and they claw all the way back into it. They actually had a lead late in regulation, but we got a steal, and Grayson (Gozum) lays it up to take a lead. Then they get an and-one to tie – Ryan Delp made a left-hand layup over Patrik Jajua at the rim. He then made the free throw to tie it. We had a chance to hit a shot to win it. Roccograndi’s shot from the top of the key rimmed out.”
–Overtime: “We hit a 3 to start overtime. It was back and forth play. They’re able to get a one-point lead on a back cut with (17) seconds left. They called a timeout. Roccograndi comes the length of the floor and makes an incredibly difficult left-handed shot, spinning over his right shoulder.
“I try to remind myself in these really tight situations that great players make great plays, and whatever I’m going to draw up really isn’t going to win the game. Ultimately, what we got was we got our best player isolated, and he was able to make a really tough shot.”
–Props: Max Manga had a double-double. He had a great first half, just big-time finishes around the rim and really asserted himself at the point of the basket. He had a big and-one for us late in the game that extended our lead before they made their last little run. He had a really big game, and
obviously, Grayson Gozum defending MJ Thompson – he’s a sophomore. I can’t imagine what he’s going to be like as a senior. Grayson Gozum did a fantastic job just trying to make his life a little more difficult on every play.”
–Tip of the hat to Rock South: “They are so well coached. They are such a difficult preparation. We spend more time preparing for CR South than we do anybody in terms of their style of play – what they do on offense. To go with it this year, they have some really good personnel that are really, really difficult to guard.
“It was a great game. We were fortunate to come out on the positive end of it. We’ve been a part of the losing end of that the past couple of years, so it was great to get the win.”
Next up: Pennsbury (7-5, 4-1 SOL) will be on the road at Holy Ghost Prep for a non-league game Friday, and Council Rock South (5-5, 2-3) will host Central Bucks East in a non-league game Thursday.

Bensalem 57, Neshaminy 52 (OT)
Amir Drummond scored late to send the game into overtime, and then in the extra session, the Owls took a lead and never surrendered it for the nip-and-tuck win over Neshaminy.
Key Players: For Bensalem, Amir Drummond (19 points), Aidan Mayfield (13 points).
For Neshaminy, Max Currie (14 points), Logan Gale (12 points).
Bensalem coach Ron Morris on the game: “Any time Neshaminy and Bensalem get together and play, it seems like it comes down to the last couple of possessions the last few years.
“Neshaminy played zone, and in the first half, we had a lot of guys step up and make shots. (Aidan) Mayfield had two 3s, Jahmir Chatman hit a 3, (Mikey) Kramer hit a 3. We’ve been getting a lot of shots up, building confidence in these guys. They were knocking down some shots, so it was nice to see that against the zone.
“We just persevered. We got down in the first quarter. Coming out in the second quarter, Amir (Drummond) scored a couple quick buckets to cut their lead, and then it was back and forth in the second quarter. We were up one at half.”
–The second half: “The third quarter we struggled offensively, but we stuck with it, stuck to the grind, and we persevered. That’s why I really love this team. We’re never out of a game because they believe in each other, they play for each other, and they just battle. We spoke in the locker room after the game about how it’s bigger than basketball, and tonight was a testament of that. When we got down in the second half, we could have folded, but we didn’t. That’s life. Life is hard, and you have to never give up.
“The fourth quarter, we really locked down and held them to six points. We know it’s going to be a tough battle. Coach (Mark) Tingle had a good game plan. It was a Bensalem-Neshaminy rivalry type game. We were down two, and Amir Drummond, who’s just been playing superb basketball all around, hit a big shot with under two seconds to send the game to overtime. That’s what senior leaders do. Someone who’s a three-year varsity player, in the biggest moments, you put the ball in his hands. Most times we’re going to come out on top. That’s how much we believe in him.”
–Overtime: “In overtime, we couldn’t score, and they couldn’t score. We took the lead – Jacob Eberhardt hit a big layup to put us up three. We got stops, we made foul shots, and we ended up winning the game.
“It was just a true team effort. Amir (Drummond) made the big shot, Amir made foul shots in the fourth quarter and overtime.
–Props: “Aidan Mayfield just gets more and more confident offensively, which is awesome because he’s a really good defensive player.
“Jahmir Chatman did a lot of good things again. Mikey Kramer’s defense and rebounds, Trevor Morris coming off the bench was huge for us. We’re getting a lot of contributions from all over the place.
“We have good leadership with our captains of Christian Lee, Jahmir Chatman and Amir Drummond just leading the guys and believing in each other that the game is never over. It’s just great to watch when you step back and watch them lead each other. It’s a really cool thing we have going on.
“To bounce back after a loss – it’s always nice to get back and continue to grind and continue to work. Credit to all our guys for really believing in each other all the time. That’s our recipe.- plan Bensalem basketball where we play hard and we play together, and good things will happen.
“It doesn’t get any easier. We have to enjoy it tonight and get ready for North Penn. They had a big win tonight.”
Next up: Bensalem (7-4, 4-1 SOL) will host North Penn in a non-league game Friday, and Neshaminy (6-7, 2-3) is off until Tuesday when the Redskins will host Plymouth Whitemarsh in a non-league game.

SOL Liberty Division
Upper Dublin 65, Plymouth Whitemarsh 45
An early injury, a huge first half on both ends of the floor and in the end, a decisive win for Upper Dublin in a battle for first place in the Colonial Division against powerhouse Plymouth Whitemarsh.
The Flying Cardinals, who lost starter Noah Cohen with a wrist injury in the first quarter, led 26-6 at one point in the first half and then put the game away with 23 points (12-for-18 free throws) in the fourth quarter.
Key Players: For UD, Idris Rines (15 points, 11 first half), Justin Ragsdale (13 points), Ryan Mulroy (12 points).
For PW, Mani Sajid (12 points).
Upper Dublin coach Derek Brooks said about the win: “It was a very weird night. A great crowd, packed house, a lot of hype to the game. Then, two minutes in, Noah Cohen went down with a bad injury and the game is stopped for six to eight minutes. It really took the air out of the building.
“Fortunately, from there, we jumped on them. I think our biggest lead to 26-6 in the first half. We unfortunately lost our aggressiveness in the last four minutes of the half. They got it to 14 and then 10 or 11 in the third quarter. We got a couple baskets and got it back up to 24.”
–Defensive effort: “The biggest thing was our defense. We played our matchup zone, and our guys did a great job executing it. They did a great job knowing where Mani (Sajid) was at all times. And their rebounding, we had to limit them to one shot, and we did that.
“I thought we did a good job getting guys open shots, and our guys knocked them down. But we held them to 14 in the first half, and they just
scored 80 against Abington. They can fill it up. But we’ve got great players with great talent, and I thought our matchup zone worked very well.”
Next up: Plymouth Whitemarsh (9-4, 4-1 SOL) will host Cheltenham for a non-league game Friday, and Upper Dublin (12-1, 5-0) will host William Tennent Thursday in a non-league contest.

Wissahickon coach Kyle Wilson on the game: “(We) were a little out of sorts in the first half and Hatboro had things clicking. The Hatters went into halftime with a five-point lead.
“We came out and played inspired basketball in the third quarter and went on a 53-44 run, and we never relinquished that lead.
“The game was very physical resulting in four or five technical fouls, but our players kept their poise, brushed off the hard fouls, and put one in the win column.”

SOL Freedom Division
Upper Moreland 74, Lower Moreland 35
A 24-7 second quarter blew this one wide open as Upper Moreland routed Lower Moreland in a Freedom Division game at home on Tuesday.
The big second quarter gave the Golden Bears a 32-20 lead at halftime, which grew to 54-29 after three.
Key Players: For Upper Moreland, Larry Hughes (13 points), Luke Roussel (13 points), Jadon Cybok (12 points)
UM coach Dan Heiland on the victory: “Overall, I was happy with the guys’ energy and effort from the jump tonight. We did some nice things on both sides of the floor as a team this game especially defensively. We let our defense lead into our offense, especially in transition. When we were able to cause a turnovers, we did a nice job of sharing the ball and finding the open man to finish the possession. When we got into the half-court, we executed our sets, again being unselfish, sharing the ball, finding the open man and making shots when we had them. We also did a really nice job of rebounding on both ends which led to second chance scoring opportunities for us and limiting Lower Moreland to one-and-done trips down the floor.”
–Key Stretch: “(The key stretch) was in the second quarter. We were able to extend our lead from 18-13 after the first to 42-20 at half. Led by Jadon Cybok who scored 8 of his 12 pts in the quarter, Tommy Jeinnings who scored five, and Aidan Tuffy who scored four of his 9 pts.”
–Props: Luke Roussel, who got the start in tonight’s contest for one of his injured teammates, impacted the game on both sides of the floor and had a game high of (13) points.
