District 1 3A quarterfinals
#3 VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 3, #11 PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 0
Villa, a perennial district power, took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and added a goal in the second on their way to a win in Friday’s quarterfinal contest.
“That put us in an early hole and their strong midfield play made it hard to find our rhythm today,” PW coach Charise Halteman said. “We made adjustments at the half and put more pressure on Villa in the third period, creating some scoring opportunities and earning some corners, but it wasn’t enough to change the final outcome.
“Our goalkeeper, Bree Molony, played a strong game despite the early pressure.”
PW goal Bree Molony recorded nine saves.
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh will travel to #7 Garnet Valley for a playback game. One win in either of the next two games will ensure the Colonials a berth in states.

Central Bucks South coach Steph Bardell:
“We entered the quarterfinals after a long week. Our team fought but it wasn’t enough to get past Spring-Ford.
“Jenna got us fired up after a tied second quarter, and we were able to keep it tied until late in the third.
“Plenty of opportunities but just weren’t able to capitalize as well as Spring-Ford was tonight.
“Looking forward to playbacks and getting another shot at a top ten team.”
Up next: Central Bucks South will travel to #8 Downingtown West for a playback game Tuesday (3:30pm). The winner earns a playoff berth, and the team that comes up short will have one more opportunity to clinch a state berth.
