BASEBALL
Jamie Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) had two hits in Temple’s 8-7 win over Monmouth on Tuesday.
Keith Meyer (Council Rock South) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in Bloomsburg’s 13-8 loss to Bucknell on Wednesday.
Sophomore first baseman Mike Knipe (Pennridge) and sophomore catcher Andrew Donofry (Hatboro-Horsham) led off the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs that gave Chestnut Hill College a 5-3 lead in game two of its twinbill with Philadelphia University on Thursday. Alex Latchum (Central Bucks South) delivered an RBI double in the sixth to up that lead to 6-3. The game, which was halted because of rain, will resume in the top of the seventh with Chestnut Hill on top 8-4.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Freshman Johnny Casey (Abington) scored five goals, but it wasn’t enough to pull Widener out of a six-goal deficit in a 12-10 Middle Atlantic Conference loss to Messiah on Wednesday. The Pride saw their record drop to 2-5 overall, 1-1 in conference play.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Bloomsburg’s Sam Alexander (Upper Moreland) scored five goals to lead the Huskies to a 20-7 win over Kutztown on Thursday. Brieann Wolfe (Pennridge) contributed the hat trick and also had a pair of assists. Leeann Pica (Neshaminy) scored a pair of goals for Kutztown. Justine Simonsen (Upper Moreland) was credited with four ground balls for Kutztown while Alexander had three and Wolfe two for Bloomsburg. Alexander was also credited with two turnovers caused. Bloomsburg is 5-1 overall, 3-1 PSAC East. Kutztown falls to 1-6, 0-4 PSAC East.
Millersville goalie Courtney Haggerty (Hatboro-Horsham) turned away 13 shots, but it wasn’t enough to hold off top-ranked West Chester in a PSAC East contest on Thursday. The Golden Rams rolled to a 17-5 win, upping their record to 6-0 overall, 4-0 PSAC East. Millersville fell to 2-3 overall, 1-3 in league play.
Gayle Kuntzman (Hatboro-Horsham) scored five goals, including three in the final 10 minutes, to lead Shippensburg to a 13-12 win over East Stroudsburg in PSAC action on Thursday. Sophomore Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) scored a career-high five goals for ESU after scoring four goals in both of the last two games. Kuntzman scored Shippensburg’s final three goals and put the Raiders ahead for the first time all day (12-11) with 9:15 left. She scored a free position goal with just under seven minutes left to give Shippensburg a two-goal cushion. Mangiaruga scored what proved to be the final goal of the game with 6:30 left to bring ESU within one, but Shippensburg limited the Warriors to one shot down the stretch. Sara Foley (Neshaminy) also scored a goal for ESU. Jamie Westergom (Springfield) was credited with five ground balls to lead ESU.
Chelsea Rosiek (Wissahickon) had one goal and one assist in Temple’s 13-4 loss to ninth-ranked Princeton on Wednesday.
