MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) scored six points in Moravian’s 70-63 win over SUNY Old Westbury in the 34th Annual Greyhound Starters Classic.

Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) scored 17 points, including three three-pointers, in Temple’s 87-85 win in overtime over Buffalo on Wednesday. Wyatt is averaging 14.9 points a game.

Freshman Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a career high 11 points in Randolph-Macon’s 82-75 win over Farmingdale State in the championship game of the 2011 Randolph-Macon Coaches Classic on Friday.

Guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored a season-high 28 points to lead Philadelphia University to a 68-63 win over Stonehill on Friday. Guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) added 12 points for the Rams. In Thursday’s 77-62 win over Assumption, Connolly went a perfect 9-of-9 from the foul line and finished with 19 points while Christian added nine points.

Junior guard Derek Brooks (North Penn) scored six points in Gettysburg’s 84-72 win over Methodist on Friday.

Sophomore forward CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed nine points and five rebounds in St. Joseph’s 74-69 loss to #24/23 Harvard on Saturday.

Dan Werth (Souderton) made a crucial steal followed by a successful three-point play in Eastern University’s 83-78 win over Husson University (Maine) on Wednesday.

Sophomore guard Andrew Stress (Council Rock North) contributed seven rebounds and two blocked shots in Fairleigh Dickinson’s 62-61 win over Maryville on Thursday.

Nick Reisig (Council Rock North) contributed six points, seven assists and four rebounds in King’s College’s 84-63 win over Pitt-Bradford on Friday.

Sophomore guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored six points in Ursinus College’s 67-46 loss to Skidmore at the 2011 D3Hoops.com Classic on Friday at the South Point Hotel and Casino Arena in Las Vegas. On Wednesday, Krasna scored 11 points in the Bears’ 83-58 loss to Ramapo.

Sophomore AJ Picard (Souderton) scored a team-high 21 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 84-78 loss to 15th ranked Bowie State on Saturday. Picard was 4-of-5 from three-point range and a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line.

Junior Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) contributed nine points and five rebounds and teammate Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) added seven points and seven rebounds in #10 Cabrini College’s 69-67 loss in overtime to Centre College in the finals of the Papa John’s Country Hearth Inn Tournament at Centre College on Friday. In Thursday’s opening round 80-60 win over Johns Hopkins University, Rafferty scored nine points while Goran had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Freshman Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned his first career start in the University of Texas’s 73-59 win over Rice on Saturday. Bond contributed four points and three rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophia Waters (Norristown)
scored 15 points in Millersville’s 59-55 win over Molloy in the Marauder’s second game at the Carol Eckman Classic at West Chester University on Saturday. One day earlier, Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) scored a team-high 13 points and came up with six steals in Millersville’s 61-54 loss to the University of the Sciences in Friday’s opening round. Waters off the bench, missing her first start of the season, contributed 10 points.

Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed seven points and 13 rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 49-38 loss to Albany College of Pharmacy on Thursday.

American University sophomore Sarah Keily (Council Rock North) was named the AU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO for the week ending Dec. 27. Kiely recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and a career high 10 rebounds in American’s win over Loyola (Md.). Her 35 minutes were a new career high, and her offensive output came on only six total shot attempts. She also matched her career best with two steals. The Rock North alum has now started AU’s last seven games, and the Eagles are 5-2 during that stretch.

Kiely matched her career high with 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting in only 19 minutes in American University’s 77-52 win over Western Michigan on Friday night. On Monday, Kiely scored 14 points in American University’s 60-49 loss to George Washington.

Danielle Ciccarone (Quakertown) contributed 12 points and seven rebounds in Walsh University’s 68-65 non-league loss to the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 68-61 loss to Southwestern College, Ciccarone led the team in scoring with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting while also pulling down eight rebounds.

Junior Shakia Robinson (North Penn) scored 16 points in the University of Massachusett’s 76-56 win over Elon on Wednesday. It was the Minutewomen’s fourth straight win.

Senior Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) grabbed six rebounds and led the team with four assists in Holy Family’s 68-60 loss to Florida Tech in Thursday’s opening round game of the Rollins College Holiday Classic in Winter Park, Fla.

Senior guard Jen Sroba (Council Rock North) scored 11 points while senior guard Alli Rosati (Central Bucks East) added 10 points in Ursinus College’s 84-82 loss in overtime to FDU-Florham in the consolation game of the Coaches Versus Cancer Classic held at York College. On Friday, Rosati contributed eight points and four rebounds in the Bears’ 64-49 loss to sixth-ranked William Paterson.

Redshirt freshman Emily Leer (Abington) scored eight points off the bench in Villanova’s 55-44 win over St. Bonaventure in the first round of the Monmouth Hawk Holiday Classic on Thursday. The win was the seventh in a row for the Wildcats, who improved to 11-2 on the season.

FIELD HOCKEY
La Salle junior Becca Chylack (Souderton) was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team. It is the second straight year Chylack has ea
rned a spot on the team. A three-time All-Atlantic 10 selection, the junior earned first team honors after an outstanding freshman season and has been named to the second team the past two seasons. In 2011, the defensive midfielder scored four goals and had three assists for 11 points. She ranks seventh all-time at La Salle in career points (54) and is 10th all-time in goals (21). Chylack also earned a spot on the Academic All-Atlantic 10 team for the second straight year. She has a 3.92 GPA as a nursing major. La Salle reached the Atlantic 10 Tournament this past fall. The Explorers return nine starters to the field in 2012.

FOOTBALL

Junior placekicker Brandon McManus (North Penn) connected on three of three field goals in Temple’s 37-15 win over Wyoming in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in front of 25, 762. It is the second bowl game victory in program history and first since Temple defeated California 28-17 in the 1979 Garden State Bowl. The Owls finished the season on a four-game win streak at 9-4 overall.

WRESTLING
Penn State sophomore James Vollrath (Council Rock South) advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn., at 157, going 3-0 with a major and a 5-4 win over No. 20 Drak Houdashelt of Missouri in the quarterfinals. In Monday’s semifinals, Vollrath dropped a 6-0 decision to 1 No. Kyle Dake of Cornell. The Nittany Lions, ranked No. 5 nationally, stormed through the finals, crowning four champions and winning the team title over No. 3 Minnesota.
