MEN’S BASKETBALL
Siena’s Ronald Moore (Plymouth Whitemarsh) is the assist leader in NCAA Division One basketball. Through 20 games, the senior point guard has 165 assists for an average of 8.3 per game. His assist-to-turnover ratio is 2.8. Moore has started all 21 games for a Siena squad that is 17-4. He is averaging 35.5 minutes a game. In addition to handing out assists, Moore is averaging 7.1 PPG and 3.5 rebounds. Last year, Moore was a second team All-MAAC selection and was named to the All-MAAC Tournament team. He was named one of 31 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, an award presented to the nation’s top point guard.
Freshman Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) scored five points in West Virginia’s 68-60 win over Marshall on Wednesday.
Junior Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) contributed 16 points and seven rebounds in #16/17 Temple’s 77-72 win over Xavier in a meeting of the Atlantic 10’s top two teams on Wednesday night. The Owls are now 16-3, 4-0 in league play and have won 12 out of their last 13 games. Allen leads Temple and ranks third in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 10.3 rebound average. He is averaging 11.2 points a game and is one of three A-10 players averaging a double-double.
Freshman Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored a career-high 16 points in Philadelphia University’s 64-46 win over Dominican College on Saturday. Freshman Eddie DiRugeris (Pennsbury) added four points. DiRugeris had six points in Philly U’s 75-65 win over Holy Family on Wednesday.
Junior Ryan Washington (Wissahickon) scored 15 points in Kutztown’s 82-67 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. Senior Brian Oleksiak (Abington) had seven points, two rebounds, two assists and drew two charges for the Red Raiders. On Wednesday, Oleksiak had seven points, four rebounds, a block and a steal in Shippensburg’s 68-61 win over Millersville.
Thomas Young (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 14 points, including a jumper with 1:32 left to break a tie and spark a 7-0 game-ending run that gave ninth-ranked IUP a 73-65 win over Gannon on Saturday. The ninth-ranked Crimson Hawks improved to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC West. On Wednesday, Young scored 20 points in IUP’s 77-53 win over Lock Haven.
Senior Robby Pines (Souderton) scored 10 points in East Stroudsburg’s 77-73 win over Cheyney on Saturday.  As a result of the win, the Warriors improved to 16-1, 3-1 in PSAC play. On Wednesday, Pines scored a career-high 18 points and made his first 10 free throws in ESU’s dramatic 101-96 double overtime win over Bloomsburg. In the game, the Warriors rallied from a 15-point deficit.  The Warriors were ranked No. 25 in the NABC Coaches Poll that was released last Tuesday.
Sophomore forward Joshua Howard (Bensalem) contributed 13 points and five rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 87-54 loss to Rowan last Monday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Junior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) contributed 11 points, four rebounds and three steals in LaSalle’s 58-50 loss to George Washington on Sunday. On Wednesday, Gale connected on fourth three-point baskets and finished with a team-high 16 points in LaSalle’s 58-39 loss to St. Bonaventure. Antonia Gale (Cheltenham) had a team-high six rebounds and five assists.
A pair of SOL alums are making important contributions on a Holy Family squad that tied an NCAA Division II record on Saturday when it earned its 92nd straight regular season CACC win with its 71-37 win at Concordia (N.Y.). Lauren Peters (Central Bucks West) is averaging 7.8 points a game and has 46 assists and 21 steals. Teammate Lindsey Tennett (Pennridge) is averaging 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds. Holy Family is 15-1 overall (8-0 in the CACC).
Junior Misha Horsey (Cheltenham) had four points and four rebounds in Stony Brook’s 67-45 loss to Vermont on Sunday. On Tuesday, Horsey had four points, six assists and two steals in Stony Brook’s 46-37 win over Albany. The junior point guard has started 18 of 19 games for the Seawolves. She is averaging 6.8 points a game and is the team leader in assists with 58.
Aliza Goldstein (Abington) contributed 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville’s 63-50 win over Penn State-DuBois. UPT opened the season 0-4 but won seven of its next 11 games.
Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) had nine points, 10 assists and seven steals in Millersville’s 68-45 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday.
Angel Stephens (Bensalem) scored 16 points, 12 in the second half, in Cheyney’s 76-52 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Shanira Blake (Cheltenham) added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Wolves.
Sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington) scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and also pulled down seven rebounds in Widener’s 59-45 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 68-61 win over Alvernia, Pritz had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Jamie Donovan (Central Bucks East) hit a pair of three’s to finish with six points in Lock Haven’s 88-59 loss to IUP on Wednesday. Teammate Heather McHugh (Norristown) had three points.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Sophomore Joe Keefe (Neshaminy) won both backstroke events and teamed with relays for two more wins in Shippensburg’s 137-125 win over IUP on Sunday.  Keefe won the 100 backstroke in 55.00 seconds with Nate Ryan (Hatboro-Horsham) just one second behind with a time of 56.44. Keefe went on to win the 200 yard backstroke in 2:02.28 and was part of the winning 200 free relay (1:29.28) and 200 medley relay (1:39.46). Junior Tim Smullen (Upper Dublin) won the 200 medley with a time of 1:39.46 and also won the 100 free with a time of 48.87. In Shippensburg’s 148-114 loss to Bloomsburg on Friday night, Smullen won the 50 free (22.29) and the 100 free (48.22). Keefe and Ryan were part of the winning 200 free relay.
Jeremy Frey (Central Bucks East) had three individual first place finishes in Bloomsburg’s 148-114 win over Shippensburg. Frey finished first in the 200 free (1:46.29), the 200 back (1:58.30) and the 200 IM (2:01.98). It is the second time this season he has taken first in those three events in a meet. Tim Dorsch (Souderton) was first in the 100 breast (21:01.92) and first in the 200 breast (2:18.56). Ben Safran (Central Bucks West) finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 53.10.
Junior Jesse Bregman (Springfield) won the 50 free with a time of 22.83 seconds in Widener’s 152-22 win over Elizabethtown on Sunday. Sean Cocoran (Pennsbury) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.67. In Widener’s 108-93 win over Lebanon Valley on Friday, Bregman was part of the winning 200 medley relay that finished with a time of 1:40.17. Cocoran won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.21.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Freshman Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was part of the University of Maryland’s winning 400 free relay (3:23.68) in the Terps’ 133-108 win over West Virginia on Saturday.
Senior Tyla Conicello (Upper Merion) won the 100 freestyle in a time of 59.05 seconds in Widener’s 114-91 win over Elizabethtown on Sunday. In Friday’s 128-118 win over Lebanon Valley, Conicello finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.45 and the 50 free with a time of 26.45.
Amy Rowland (Upper Moreland) won the 200 back (2:20.44), was part of the winning 200 free relay (1:42.89) and finished third in the 50 free (25.87) in East Stroudsburg’s 143-113 win over Millersville on Saturday. Senior Heather Van O’Linda (Norristown) was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:54.15) as well as the 200 free relay. Van O’Linda was second in the 100 breast and third in the 100 free. Sam Hoch (Norristown) finished sixth in the 1000 free (13:01.83), sixth in the 100 fly and was part of the fifth place 200 free relay.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Steve Roberts (Quakertown) was a double winner for Lock Haven in the 18th annual John Covert Classic at Lehigh University this weekend. Roberts took first in the 200 (23.14) and 400 (50.94) as the Bald Eagles captured the championship. Teammate Brandon Pomerantz (Council Rock North) finished first in the 800 meter run (1:57.93).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Vanita Moses (Neshaminy) finished fourth in the shot put for Lock Haven University at the 18th Annual John Covert Classic at Lehigh University this weekend. Christy Ohmort (Hatboro-Horsham) finished fifth in the pole vault.
East Stroudsburg’s Kayla Littrell (William Tennent) finished 29th in the 200 meter run in the Bucknell Heptagonal on Saturday.
Shippensburg freshman Caitlin Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.25 in the Bucknell Heptagonal this weekend. The Lady Raiders won the highly competitive meet, defeating the host Bison that were recently voted to win the Division I Patriot League. Junior Laura Henzy (Neshaminy) was part of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished fourth with a time of 4:03.99.
WOMEN’S WRESTLING
Sophomore Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) earned a spot on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference 2009 Fall All-Academic Team. To earn this distinction, students must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA while participating in competition this past fall semester. Tohanczyn (3.82, Political Science/Business Administration and Criminal Justice) started 20 of 24 matches she played in. She finished second on the team in assists (157, 2.07 per game), second in blocks (25), fourth in digs (94) and tied for fourth in kills (62) and fifth in aces (19).
WRESTLING
Senior Bill Purvis (Souderton)used a riding time advantage to eke out a 5-4 win over Limestone’s Mikel Bush at 157 in Shippensburg’s 20-18 win over Limestone in the 2010 East Region Duals on Saturday. Purvis also won a 5-4 decision in Shippensburg’s 48-0 rout of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian. On Friday, Purvis picked up a major decision in Shippensburg’s 39-7 win over Abbey. He fell by a major decision in Shippensburg’s 35-3 loss to Newberry.
East Stroudsburg freshman Devon Passman (Central Bucks East) stepped into the lineup at 174 this weekend and got his first career dual victory with an 8-6 decision over Kyle Czarnecki, which tied Saturday’s match against Boston College 13-13. The Warriors went on to win 22-16.  In ESU’s second match of the day, Passman was pinned in a 42-9 loss to North Dakota State. David Luthy (Plymouth Whitemarsh) fell in a 3-2 decision at 125 in ESU’s win over BU and dropped a 13-5 major decision in the Warriors’ loss to North Dakota State. In ESU’s 30-12 win over American International on Friday, both Luthy and Passman lost by decisions.
