MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) drained a three-pointer with 2.2 seconds left to lift Villanova to a 61-61 tie with No. 3 Syracuse, and the Wildcats went on to post a 75-71 victory over the Orange in a BIG EAST game played Saturday before 18,273 at the Wells Fargo Center. The Neshaminy grad finished the game with 10 points, two steals and two assists. It was Villanova’s second win over a top five team of the week. On Tuesday, the Wildcats upset No. 5 Louisville 73-64 at the Wells Fargo Center. Arcidiacono led the Wildcats with 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sophomore Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was 2-of-2 from three-point range and scored nine points in Shippensburg’s 74-57 loss to West Chester on Wednesday.

Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) contributed 22 points, six assists and four steals in Temple’s 83-71 loss to #9 Butler on Saturday. Wyatt, who scored 16 of his points in the opening quarter, connected on 7-of-15 shots from the floor and four-of-six from beyond the arc. In Wednesday’s 76-69 win over Penn, Wyatt was the game high scorer for the eighth time this season with 26 points.

Joe Renzi (Abington) had three steals in Eliabethtown’s 69-56 win over Lebanon Valley on Saturday. In Monday’s 61-59 win over York College, Renzi had a game-high five assists.

Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the first half of East Stroudsburg’s 99-56 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. Grant, who scored nine points in the first four minutes, was 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three-point line for the defending PSAC champions, who have won nine straight. In Wednesday’s 68-52 win over Millersville, Grant scored 17 points. In the win, Grant went over the 700-point mark for his career. He has scored 118 points in the last five games (23.6 PPG). He is averaging 17.2 PPG this season.

CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed six points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals in St. Joseph’s 59-49 win over Xavier on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-64 loss to St. Bonaventure, Aiken scored 13 points.

Jaylen Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed four points, two steals and one block in the University Texas’s 73-57 win over Texas Tech on Saturday. In Monday’s 73-67 loss to Oklahoma, Bond contributed four points and five rebounds.

Pat Furst (Central Bucks West) scored 18 points and also had four rebounds in Wilkes University’s 68-65 loss at Eastern on Wednesday.

John Ryan Wolff (Pennsbury) scored five points off the bench in Lycoming’s 88-71 win over Widener on Saturday.

In a battle of the Brooks’ brothers on Saturday, Sean Brooks (North Penn) contributed seven points, four rebounds and two assists in Washington College’s 95-87 loss in triple overtime to McDaniel on Saturday. Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) added four points and two rebounds off the bench. For McDaniel, Wesley Brooks (North Penn) contributed five points, two steals and one assist in 19 minutes off the bench. In Washington College’s 63-49 loss to Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Sean Brooks had eight points, three assists and two rebounds.

Earlier in the week, Derek Brooks (North Penn) contributed 10 points, six rebounds, six assists and a career-high five steals in Gettysburg’s 72-56 win over McDaniel. Wes Brooks had three points and a steal off the bench for McDaniel.

Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed eight points and a game-high nine rebounds in Gettysburg’s 77-69 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. Derek Brooks had six points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Penn State Abington sophomore Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) was selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 21. Marvin finished the week with two-game averages of 19 points, 16.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and one block while shooting 65 percent (17-for-26) from the field. The 6-5 forward opened the week with a team-best 20 points and a game-high 12 boards in a 97-81 setback to Penn State Berks before helping the Nittany Lions rebound with a program-record 21 boards to go along with 18 points and game highs of four assists and two blocks in the Nittany Lions’ win over Wells. The two double-doubles gave Marvin 13 on the year, which is tied for the most across all of NCAA Division III play. Marvin also leads the NEAC in both points (19.0) and rebounds (13.2) per game, while ranking third nationally in the latter category.

Marvin scored 19 points in Penn State Abington’s 66-64 win over Gallaudet on Saturday. The 6-5 sophomore deflected the Gallaudet’s inbounds pass away as time ran out, thwarting the Bison’s attempt to take a shot to tie the score. In Wednesday’s 78-66 win over Lancaster Bible, Marvin led all scorers with 22 points. Teammate Alex Ageydu (Bensalem) added four points and three rebounds.

Junior guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored 14 points in Ursinus College’s 75-73 loss to Muhlenberg on Wednesday. Teammate Mark Wonderling (Souderton) contributed seven points.

Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed eight points, five assists and two steals in Randolph-Macon’s 74-39 win over Washington & Lee on Wednesday.

Brett Roseboro (Quakertown) scored 11 points in UMBC’s 67-60 loss to Stony Brook on Wednesday.

Freshman Ryan Connolly (Souderton) contributed eight points and 11 rebounds in Kutztown’s 74-68 loss to Millersville on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 68-59 loss to Cheyney, Connolly had 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting, which included 3-of-5 from behind the arc. He also had six rebounds.

Sophomore Michael Guldin (Pennridge) totaled seven points and five assists in DeSales University’s 73-61 win over King’s College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 69-64 win over Manhattanville, Guldin went 4-for-4 from the free throw line with 14 seconds left to ice the win. He finished the game with seven points.

Junior Chris Davis (Norristown) scored 10 points and also handed out four assists in Alvernia’s 69-59 win over Stevenson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-71 win over Lycoming, Davis contributed seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

Goldey-Beacom junior guard AJ Picard (Souderton) was named the recipient of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week award for the week ending Jan. 20. It is the second time Picard has been honored with the Player of the Week award in his career. He is the first Lightning player to earn the CACC Player of the Week accolade this season. In the Lightning’s 105-99 loss against Chestnut Hill, Picard exploded for a career-high 38 points, including 25 in the second half, while setting a season high with eight rebounds. He made 10-of-21 shots from the floor, including a 5-for-11 effort from three-point range, while converting a season-high 13 of 14 free throws. With his 38-point effort, Picard posted the 11th-highest single-game scoring mark in NCAA Division II this season. The only player to start all 17 games this season for the Lightning, Picard is the team’s second-leading scorer with a 15.1 average and has scored at least 10 points in eight consecutive games. He also ranks third in the CACC with an .872 free throw percentage. With 745 career points, Picard has also moved into 12th place on the Lightning’s all-time list.

Picard contributed eight points and four rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 76-72 loss to Post on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 74-53 loss to Philadelphia University, Picard had 11 points.

Senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) scored a game-high 23 points to help Philadelphia University to a 74-53 win over Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday. Junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) contributed 13 points and six rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 67-54 win over Wilkes University on Saturday. As a result of the win, the Aggies remain tied for second in the Freedom Conference.

Junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored 21 points in Cabrini’s 94-79 win over Keystone College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 82-60 win over Centenary College, Rafferty scored eight points while teammate Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) matched a season high with 11 boards.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Gwynedd-Mercy sophomore Natasha Matthews (Norristown) was named to the CSAC Women’s Basketball Honor Roll for the week ending Jan. 20. The Norristown grad averaged 22.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Griffins during their 1-1 week, setting personal bests along the way. In Gwynedd’s win at Immaculata, the sophomore scored a career-high 32 points on a 15-for-20 effort from the floor, while grabbing 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in an 81-75 win. Two nights later, Matthews shared the team lead with 13 points, going 6-for-7 from the field and grabbing five rebounds with two blocks in the Griffins’ loss to Cabrini. On the week, Matthews posted a 77.8 field goal percentage, connecting on 21 of 27 shots. On the season, Matthews is second on the squad in both scoring (12.1 PPG) and rebounding (6.5 RPG).

Sophomore Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin) scored a personal best 16 points in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 99-77 loss to Rosemont on Saturday. Matthews pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. In Wednesday’s 102-30 win over Notre Dame (Md.), Fuery connected on four of her team’s nine three-pointers to finish with 14 points. In Monday’s 87-26 win over Cedar Crest, junior guard Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) led all scorers with personal-bests of 20 points and 11 rebounds to notch her first career double-double.

Freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) posted nine points and six rebounds in Shippensburg’s 74-55 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 75-55 win over West Chester, Knauer had six points and three rebounds. For West Chester, Tiffany Johnson (Cheltenham) had four rebounds and two assists.
Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) had 11 points, three rebounds and three steals in Delaware Valley’s 63-53 win over Wilkes University on Saturday. For Wilkes, Ginny Edwards (Central Bucks South) had five points and three rebounds. In Delaware Valley’s 71-62 loss to FDU-Florham on Wednesday, Barlow had 12 points and three rebounds.

Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored 14 points in Lock Haven’s 71-60 loss to California (Pa.) on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 60-59 loss to Clarion, Ryan netted 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) filled the stat sheet, scoring 18 points as well as chipping in eight rebounds, six assists and five steals in Millersville’s 78-56 win over Kutztown on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 69-55 win over East Stroudsburg, Newman broke a five-way tie for the most steals in a game in team history by stealing 11 Warrior passes on the night. Not only was the total a school record, it also represented the fifth highest total in a game in PSAC history. She also added eight points and six assists while playing a game-high 37 minutes.

Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored eight points in Bloomsburg’s 65-59 loss to West Chester on Saturday. In Bloomsburg’s 93-73 win over Mansfield on Wednesday, Derr contributed seven points and five rebounds.

Freshman Sarah Listenbee (Abington) scored seven points off the bench in Holy Family’s 86-53 win over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday.

Jessica Schmidt (Abington) scored 18 points in Penn State Abington’s 66-28 win over Gallaudet University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 68-51 loss to Lancaster Bible College, Schmidt, who averages 10.4 rebounds per game, had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 10 points in Neumann University’s 83-45 win over Baptist Bible College on Wednesday.

Emily Leer (Abington) contributed five points in Villanova’s 64-59 win over Syracuse on Saturday.

Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored five points in Haverford’s 50-33 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

Junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored 18 points in Cabrini’s 61-37 win over Cairn University on Saturday. The win was the 11th in a row for the Cavaliers, who are 11-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. In Wednesday’s 57-46 win over Immaculata, Sandone had 19 points and six steals.

Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) had six rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots in American University’s 45-42 win over Army on Saturday, handing Army its first conference loss. In Wednesday’s 61-42 loss to Navy, Kiely scored 10 points.

Freshman Carley Kendall (Souderton) contributed career highs of nine points and four steals in Washington College’s 80-30 win over Bryn Mawr on Wednesday.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Ryan Supplee (Hatboro-Horsham)
posted his best time of the season in the 200 IM (2:17.42) in Elizabethtown’s 100-88 win over King’s College on Saturday.

Adam Bossert (Wissahickon) won a pair of individual events in Rochester’s 165-127 win over RIT on Saturday. The Wissahickon grad won the 100 breaststroke (:59.59) and the 200 breaststroke (2:16.95). Bossert also was part of the winning 200 medley relay. In Rochester’s 149-146 loss to SUNY Cortland, Bossert won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.63 and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:38.10).

Chris Willcox (Upper Dublin) won the 100 free in Hartwick’s 159-60 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday, posting a time of 1:51.19.

Sophomore TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) claimed fifth place on the one-meter board with 277.35 and third on the three-meter with 293.17 in No. 19 Penn State’s 188-12 win over Navy on Saturday.

Junior Dave Derr (Upper Dublin) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.37 in La Salle’s 181-110 win over Loyola on Wednesday. Senior Daniel Fitzgerald (Upper Dublin) finished third in the event. CJ Gimpel (Central Bucks South) won both the 1 meter and 3 meter with scores of 255.22 and 264.15 respectively. In last Sunday’s 156.5-141.5 loss to Fordham, Derr won his second 100 backstroke in the last two meets, tying Fordham’s Thomas Yi with a time of 52.50. Fitzgerald was part of the 200 medley relay that posted a winning time of 1:34.96. Gimpel won the 3 meter with 252.55 points and then won the 1 meter with a score of 284.60.

Bloomsburg junior Tyler Washington (Central Bucks West) picked up his first PSAC qualifying time of the season in his first official swim of the season at the Crimson Hawk Invitational on Friday. In the time trials of the 100 fly, Washington swam by himself to a career-best mark of 54.91.  Senior Jeremy Frey (Central Bucks East) swam in the time trials of the 100 fly and posted a season-best mark in a previously qualified event of 53.26 seconds.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING& DIVING
Freshman Rachel Engelhardt (Hatboro-Horsham) finished first in the 200 free with a time of 2:07.97 in Elizabethtown’s 119-77 loss to King’s College on Saturday.

Taylor Meteja (Upper Merion) was part of the second place 200 medley relay in Franklin & Marshall’s 101-80 win over McDaniel on Friday night. Mateja placed second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:20.70. In Saturday’s 136-69 loss to Ursinus on Saturday, Mateja finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:04.78) and sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:08.29). She was part of the second place 200 medley relay (1:54.25).

Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) was part of the first place 200 free relay (1:42.25) in Ursinus College’s 136-69 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. She also finished third in the 200 free (1:59.46) and fourth in the 500 free (5:25.01).

Junior Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) swam her career best in the 200 freestyle in Millersville’s 142-116 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The Tennent alum touched the wall in 1:59.49 - .41 seconds faster than her previous best time in the event. She also placed second in the 100 free with a time of 55.48, which was a PSAC qualifying time. In Tuesday’s 152-109 win over Kutztown, Thomas won the 200 freestyle with a PSAC qualifying time of 2:00.16. Teammate Bridget Dooling (William Tennent) finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:2.70.

Junior Maria Ciaralli (Pennsbury) finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.25 in The College of New Jersey’s 181-115 win over Rowan on Saturday.

Paige Whitmire (Souderton) won two events in No. 14 Penn State’s 185-107 win over Navy on Saturday. The Souderton grad won the 100 back (57.02) and the 100 free (51.06. She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:43.34).

Senior Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was part of the winning 200 medley relay in Arizona’s 168.5-112.5 win over Cal on Friday, posting a time of 1:38.40. In Saturday’s 161-139 loss to Stanford, Lafferty was part of the first place 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:39.05.

Bloomsburg senior Madeline Barlow (Pennsbury) won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.09 at the Crimson Hawk Invitational on Saturday. Julia DeVincent (Upper Dublin) was part of the first place 800 free relay team that posted a time of 8:02.18. On Friday, freshman Chelsea Wysong (Springfield) finished second in the 200 IM and improved by over a second from her previous best time, turning in a time of 2:16.13 for her third PSAC mark of the season. She also posted PSAC qualifying times in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke. 

Junior Ali Roth (Central Bucks West) finished second in the 50 freestyle (25.49) in Gettysburg’s 193-69 loss to Mary Washington.

Jan Ikeda (North Penn) finished second in the 400 IM (4:59.79) and was part of the second place 200 free relay (1:48.82) in Lebanon Valley’s 152-52 loss to Messiah on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 141-35 win over FDU-Florham, Ikeda won the 200 free (2:08.61) and the 200 IM (2:29.03).

Sophomore Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) finished third in the 200 free with a time of 1:59.46 in Ursinus College’s 136-69 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

WRESTLING
Junior James Vollrath (Council Rock South) earned a 12-9 decision over Purdue’s Tommy Churchard in No. 1 Penn State’s 35-3 win over Purdue last Sunday.

John Lindquist (Neshaminy) earned a 17-6 major decision in Shippensburg’s 40-3 win over Ohio Valley at the 2013 Super Region I Duals on Friday. He also earned an 8-2 decision in Shippensburg’s 20-16 win over Limestone. 

Sophomore Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) won by major decision at 157 in Ursinus College’s 32-12 win over Gettysburg on Saturday. Jasinski earned a 3-2 decision in Ursinus’s 20-18 win over Merchant Marine.

Kutztown’s Brandon Parker (Norristown) finished fourth at the Messiah Open.
