WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Senior Andrea Kellock (North Penn) finished 15th with a time of 22:04 in Bloomsburg’s second place finish at Lehigh University’s Paul Short Run. The Huskes are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Region weekly poll and 25th in Division II by the USTFCAA.
Sophomore Brooke Airey (Neshaminy) is running in the top seven for nationally-ranked Messiah College. She recently placed 135th at the Paul Short Invitational (Brown) two weeks ago.
Gettysburg freshman Christine Esposito (Neshaminy) placed second in a triangular meet against Messiah College and Juniata College and, more recently, placed 85th at the presitgious Paul Short (Brown) Invitational where she was Gettysburg's third runner to the finish line.
FIELD HOCKEY
Junior Katie O’Donnell (Wissahickon) scored a goal in Maryland’s 3-0 win over 14th ranked Duke on Saturday. With the win, the top-ranked Terps improved to 4-0 in the ACC and 14-0 overall.
Freshman Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) was named the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week last week. It is the first ECAC honor for Vasey, who earned a spot in the starting lineup for Lebanon Valley and had an immediate impact, scoring six goals and contributing three assists in three LVC wins. Vasey began the week with her first career hat trick in a 6-1 win at Albright. She scored twice in LVC's 9-1 win at FDU-Florham and then added another goal in a 7-0 win over Stevenson. Lebanon Valley has won 11 in a row and boasts a 12-1 record for the season.
Junior Sam Haas (Central Bucks South) contributed a goal and an assist in Villanova’s 10-1 win over Lehigh on Wednesday. Haas, who has seen action in all 11 games this season, has three goals and an assist for the Wildcats, who are 7-4. Sophomore Megan Goelz (Pennsbury) has started eight games and play in all 11 games in goal. She boasts a .759 save percentage. Freshman Moriah Allen (Neshaminy) has played in 10 of 11 games for the Wildcats.
Ali Meves (Wissahickon) was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after Penn State’s 2-1 overtime win over No. 18 Ohio State on Oct. 2. Meves had 11 saves, including nine big stops after halftime, to keep the score tied. It was her second double-figure save effort of the season (and career). Her career high 14 saves came at Princeton. Meves is first in the Big Ten in both saves (60) and save percentage (.769).  Teammate Jess Longstreth (Council Rock North) scored a goal in the Nittany Lions’ 2-1 win over Ohio State. On Monday, Longstreth scored on a penalty stroke in Penn State’s 3-1 win over No. 14 Stanford. Senior Christine Dudek (Souderton) contributed an assist. Meves had six saves.
Goalie Lisa Belcastro (Central Bucks West) turned away nine shots in Slippery Rock’s 4-0 loss to Bloomsburg on Monday.
Junior forward Brittany Kocis (Central Bucks East) scored for the sixth time this season in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 loss to Shippensburg on Saturday.
Senior Lauren Hollingsworth (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in Shippensburg’s 4-0 win over Mercyhurst on Wednesday. The win clinched a PSAC playoff berth for the Lady Raiders, who improved to 14-1 (6-0 PSAC West).
Freshman Rebecca Chylack (Souderton) scored a goal in LaSalle’s 4-2 loss to West Chester on Friday. The goal gave Chylack a program record for points by a freshman with 19. She is ninth on the all-time list at the school. Senior Haley Froshour (Council Rock North) assisted on the goal.
Senior Breanne Tobin (Pennridge) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Field Hockey Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 4. Tobin scored three goals in two games to help lead Bloomsburg to a 2-0 week with wins over Shippensburg and Kutztown as the Huskies took control of first place in the PSAC East. In a matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams, Tobin scored a goal in the Huskies 5-1 win over then No. 1 Shippensburg. She scored a pair of goals in Bloomsburg’s 5-2 win over Kutztown, which avenged Bloomsburg’s only loss of the year and extended the Huskies’ winning streak to eight games.
As a result of its win over Shippensburg, Bloomsburg regained the top spot in the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll. The three-time defending NCAA champion Huskies are 12-1 overall (5-1 PSAC East). Senior Breanne Tobin (Pennridge) is second in goals scored with 13. In goal, Caitlin Koczynski (Neshaminy) has a goals-against average of 0.78 with 37 saves. On Saturday, Bloomsburg defeated Mansfield 5-2. Brittany Kostishion (Pennridge) scored both goals for Mansfield.
Junior goalie Megan Purcell (Pennridge) was credited with four saves in Widener’s 3-0 win over Albright on Saturday.
FOOTBALL
Sophomore linebacker Mike Bergey (Souderton) had a team-high 11 tackles in East Stroudsburg’s 27-13 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. Redshirt junior Matt Free (Souderton) had eight tackles (3.0 TFL) and two sacks. Redshirt sophomore Shawnte Carroll (Harry S. Truman) made a touchdown-saving tackle in the game.
MEN’S SOCCER
Junior defenseman Maurice Blanton (Harry S. Truman) contributed an assist in Chestnut Hill’s 1-0 win over Philadelphia University on Tuesday.
Jeff Pio (William Tennent) scored early in the second half of LaSalle’s 1-1 tie with Duquesne. Ryan Richter (William Tennent) had the assist.
Jeremy Hurdle (Wissahickon) was the McGill University athlete of the week for the period ending Aug. 30. Hurdle, a midfielder, scored twice and set up another goal as the Redmen split their two matches to finish second at the Old Four Tournament in London, Ontario. He scored both goals in McGill's 2-1 win over Toronto and assisted on McGill's only goal in the tourney championship final, a 2-1 loss to Western Mustangs.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Freshman Julia Goldsworthy (Central Bucks South) has seen action is 11 of 12 games for Virginia Tech this season. The freshman defensive back has contributed a pair of assists for the Hokies, who are ranked 12th in the nation in the latest NSCAA poll. The Hokies vaulted into the top 20 by virtue of a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents. They earned a 2-1 win over a Virginia team that was then ranked 18th, and prior to that, the Hokies notched their first ever win over North Carolina, defeating the top-ranked Tar Heels 1-0. It was North Carolina’s first loss of the season. The Hokies are 10-2-0 on the season, 4-0 in the ACC.
Kelly Modes (Neshaminy) scored an unassisted goal while teammate Samantha Fox (William Tennent) contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 3-2 loss to California (Pa.) on Saturday.
Sophomore goalie Kathryn Miller (Central Bucks East) needed to turn away just one shot in the New York Institute of Technology’s 1-0 win over Chestnut Hill on Monday.
Freshman goalie Gabrielle Pakhtigian (North Penn) made eight saves in LaSalle University’s 3-1 win over Massachusetts on Friday.
Senior Gayle Kuntzman (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her team’s only goal in Shippensburg’s 2-1 loss to Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Sophomore midfielder Devon Miniscalco (Council Rock South) scored a goal in East Stroudsburg’s 4-2 win over IUP on Saturday. It was the fifth straight win for the Warriors, who are ranked seventh in the region by the NCAA and eighth by the NSCAA.  IUP entered the game ranked 23rd in Division II and No. 3 in the Atlantic Region in the NSCA coaches poll and No. 2 in the region in the NCAA rankings.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Sophomore Liz Heisler (Wissahickon) notched an 8-5 victory at third flight in Gettysburg’s 5-2 loss to Shepherd University on Wednesday.
Katie Hasyn (North Penn) earned a 6-3, 7-5 win in the opening round of the PSAC Individual championships on Saturday.
Sarah Doherty picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles in Chestnut Hill’s 9-0 win over Caldwell.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Setter Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) had a kill and an ace while Nicole Corrado (Souderton) had two kills in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 loss to Philadelphia University on Monday. On Thursday, Corrado had three kills in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 loss to Holy Family. On Saturday, Corrado contributed seven kills in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 loss to Nyack College.
