MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Shippensburg senior Brian Quintrell (North Penn) finished 41st at the 24th Annual Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, posting a time of 26:50. The Raiders finished third overall behind Lock Haven and Bucknell.
Junior Nick Scarpello (Central Bucks West) was Penn State’s top finisher in the 8K at Friday’s Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, posting a time of 24:25 and placing 128th. Sophomore Chris Campbell (Council Rock North) rounded out the Nittany Lion top five, coming across 254th overall. The men’s squad placed 41st in the team standings, picking up wins over Mid-Atlantic Region rival La Salle as well as Big Ten foe Nebraska.
Widener is ranked eighth in the Mideast Region according to the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll. Junior Michael Quinn (Plymouth Whitemarsh) won the season-opening Misericorida Invitational and the team finished first overall. Widener also has gotten impressive finishes from Ryan Gallagher (Neshaminy). On Thursday, John Ruggiero (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 24:22.8 to finish 22nd in the Haverford Invitational. In Saturday’s Princeton Invitational, Gallagher posted a time of 25:58.
Elizabethtown’s Sam Brooks (Wissahickon) posted a time of 26:12.7 in Saturday’s Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble. The Blue Jays finished eighth as a team.
Penn State Abington’s Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) posted a time of 27:06.53 for a second place finish at the Cross Country Only Champions Invitational on Saturday. Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) posted a time of 29:28.01, finishing 46th. The Nittany Lions finished eighth out of 17 teams.
Tyler Jones (Central Bucks West) had a remarkable debut in his first attempt at 26.2 miles, finishing the Chicago Marathon in two hours, 19 minutes, 39 seconds as he placed 29th overall and was the first Pennsylvania finisher as well as the 12th American over.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Elizabethtown’s Ashley Underkoffler (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 23:58.0 at Saturday’s Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble. Elizabethtown finished eighth as a team.
Penn State Abington team captain Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) completed her career personal best time of 23:24.98 for the 73rd spot in the Cross Country Only Champions Invitational on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Junior Jennalise Taylor (Pennsbury) contributed an assist in Quinnipiac’s 3-2 win over Rider on Sunday.
Starting goalie Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) was forced to make just one save in the first half of No. 3 Princeton’s 6-0 win over Brown on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks South) scored a goal in Dartmouth’s 4-3 win over Yale on Saturday.
Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) scored her third goal in the year in Delaware Valley’s 2-1 loss in overtime to Wilkes University on Saturday.
Freshman Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) scored a goal in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 2-1 win over Cabrini on Saturday. Senior Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist.
Senior Amanda Fleischut (Central Bucks West) contributed a goal in No. 15 Drexel’s 3-1 loss to No. 11 Iowa at Penn State on Friday. In last Sunday’s 4-2 loss to No. 10 Old Dominion, Fleischut contributed an assist.
Junior Alyssa Tourdot (Wissahickon) scored her team-leading 13th goal in Albright College’s 3-0 win over Wilson College on Saturday. In last Saturday’s 6-1 loss to Lebanon Valley, Tourdot scored her team’s only goal.
Rider senior Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 7. Schneider also was awarded Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week honors as well. A 5-6 forward and team captain, Schneider had two goals and an assist for the week, including the game-winner in overtime as Rider defeated Robert Morris University 5-4. Against Columbia, Schneider assisted on the first goal of the game in a 3-2 Bronc loss. Schneider has six goals and three assists this season, and her 98 career points (33 goals, 32 assists) are 10th best on Rider’s all-time scoring list.
Maura Hennigan (Central Bucks West) scored a goal in No. 5 Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 win over Muhlenberg on Saturday.
Sophomore Becky Ely (Council Rock North) tallied a second-half goal in Messiah College’s 4-0 win over Alvernia on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Albright, Ely contributed a pair of assists.
Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) scored a goal with 2:38 remaining to propel Lebanon Valley to a 2-1 win over Stevenson on Saturday night. In Wednesday’s 9-2 win at Hood, Vasey had an assist.
Sophomore Colleen Kempf (Central Bucks South) scored the game winner with 1:09 remaining on the clock to give La Salle a 1-0 win at St. Joseph’s on Sunday afternoon. Junior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) set up Kempf with a perfect pass across the crease for the game winner. In Friday’s 2-1 loss to Temple, Shoemaker scored the only La Salle goal.
FOOTBALL
Senior Brandon McManus (North Penn) connected on a 29-yard field goal to propel Temple to a 17-14 overtime win over the University of Connecticut on Saturday.
McManus earned midseason All-BIG EAST first team recognition at both placekicker and punter. He also was named the National Specialist of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards on Sunday. In Saturday’s 17-14 win over UConn, McManus made an extra point with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and force overtime. He nailed a 29-yard field goal in OT to give the Owls their second overtime win in school history and first back-to-back wins in BIG EAST play. Against the Huskies, McManus also punted eight times for 341 yards (42.6 average) and kicked off three times for 195 yards (65.0 average) and a touchback. After five games, McManus is 15-of-16 in PATs and 8-of-10 in field goals. He is Temple’s leading scorer with 39 points. McManus has punted 30 times for 1,348 yards (44.9 average) and kicked off 28 times for 1,759 yards (62.8 average) and 21 touchbacks.
Junior Mike Goode (Norristown) led No. 16 Shippensburg with 11 tackles in the Red Raiders 73-35 win over Kutztown on Saturday. Junior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) finished with two sacks and two forced fumbles. For Kutztown, quarterback Kevin Morton (Abington) set single game records for pass attempts, completions, and passing yards and also joined the exclusive club of 10,000 passing yards and 100 career touchdown passes. He became just the 19th player in Division II history to reach both marks and only the 59th to have done it in the history of college football at all divisions of NCAA football and the NAIA. He finished the game 45-of-63 for 479 yards and three touchdowns. Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) reached double figures with 10 catches covering 47 yards.
Linebacker Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South) recorded 10 tackles in Monmouth’s 41-38 loss to Cornell on Saturday.
Senior Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) had four catches for a career high 117 yards and a touchdown in sixth-ranked Bloomsburg’s 48-27 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Dickerson now has had a touchdown catch in three consecutive games.
Pat Cantrell (Pennsbury) blocked a punt and also recovered a fumble in Millersville’s 35-0 win over Cheyney on Homecoming Saturday. Lou Brown (Upper Dublin) set up a touchdown with a 23-yard punt return to the Cheyney 20. Jamie Thomas (Plymouth Whitemarsh) forced a fumble and recovered two.
Sophomore Josh Williams (Central Bucks South) caught a touchdown pass in Ursinus College’s 37-27 win over Juniata on Saturday. Freshman kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) kicked a 29-yard field goal in the win.
Shawn Leo (Souderton) connected on a 26-yard field goal with no time left on the clock to send West Chester into halftime with a 24-6 lead in Saturday’s 41-6 win over LIU Post. Leo also connected on a 27-yard field goal, giving him 28 for his career. Punter Rich Bruno (Council Rock South) dropped three punts inside the five-yard line.
MEN’S GOLF
Temple sophomore Matthew Crescenza (Cheltenham) carded a 77 and was tied for 16th place after the first round of the Big 5 Invitational. Junior Russell Hartong (Central Bucks East) shot an 82 and was tied for 68th place.
Tim Duke (Upper Dublin) shot a 92 for Ursinus College on Thursday in the Ursinus College Invitational.
Abington Penn State’s Bobby Crawford (Council Rock North) fired a round score of 77 to finish the Philadelphia University Golf Classic tied for third place among the individuals. Teammate Dylan Amin (Neshaminy) shot a 78, finishing tied for fifth. John Haldis (Council Rock South) shot an 82, and Tim Anderson (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a score of 84. The Nittany Lions finished second as a team.
Philadelphia University’s Ed DiRugeris (Pennsbury) finished in a tie for 19th with a score of 84 (+12) in the Third Annual Philadelphia University Golf Classic on Tuesday. In Monday’s tri-match against Goldey-Beacom and Richard Stockton, DiRugeris shared the distinction of having Philadelphia’s low round of the day by shooting an 83. The Rams had a team score of 336 to finish second in the tri-meet.
Junior Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) led La Salle when he carded an eight-over par 78 on Saturday at the Big 5 Invitational. Johnson was part of a tie for 24th out of the 99-player field. Sophomore Greg Goodreds (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a first round score of 82 (+12).
West Chester’s Danny Walck (Pennridge) carded a 76 in the opening round of the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational on Saturday. He shot a 36 on the front nine.
Millersville’s Kevin Davis (Hatboro-Horsham) fired a career-best 72 in the second round of the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational on Sunday to move into a tie for ninth place with a two-day total of 148. On Saturday, Davis shot a 4-over par 76 to finish in a tie for 18th in the opening round.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot a 172 for Middlebury in last weekend’s Williams Invitational Tournament. Middlebury finished fourth as a team in the season-ending tournament.
MEN’S SOCCER
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) recorded 10 saves in Shippensburg’s 3-2 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. The Huskies outshot the Raiders 20-12. In Tuesday’s 4-1 win over East Stroudsburg, Foran recorded two saves.

Dickinson senior Marissa Kunkle (Pennridge) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Tuesday. Kunkle scored twice in a 4-0 win over McDaniel and scored her third goal of the week with a header against Bryn Mawr. In addition to leading the attack, Kunkle anchored a solid defensive effort that led to a pair of conference shutouts. The Devils held the Green Terror to seven shots and allowed just four against the Owls.
Kunkle contributed an assist in Dickinson’s 2-0 win over Washington College on Saturday. The Red Devils are 10-4 overall.
Anna-Kate DePaolo (Pennridge) scored a goal in IUP’s 3-0 win over Mansfield on Tuesday.
Brianna Hires (Neshaminy) scored off a corner kick in No. 2 West Chester’s 3-2 upset loss at the hands of unranked Lock Haven on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Slippery Rock, Jen Hutchinson (Neshaminy) scored the game winner with two minutes left in the first overtime. Cara Deola (Council Rock South) contributed an assist.

In Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Notre Dame University of Maryland, freshman Cindy Wade (Abington) scored a goal on a header. In last Saturday’s 6-0 win over Morrisville State, freshman Nicole Kidd (Abington) contributed an assist.
Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) scored a goal in the 86th minute to lead Elizabethtown to a 2-1 win over Albright on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Alvernia, Cerankowski scored a pair of goals in 46 seconds early in the second half.
Sophomore Alyssa Kirk (Neshaminy) netted the first goal of her Temple career in the Owls 2-0 win over the University of Massachusetts. In Friday’s 2-1 loss to Rhode Island, freshman Erin Lafferty (Upper Dublin) scored the first goal of her career late in the first half.
Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) scored a goal in Wilkes University’s 4-0 win over DeSales on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL
Erin Holloway (Souderton) was named assistant softball coach at Fort Lewis College (Durango, Col.). Holloway earned first team All-America and first team All-PSAC honors as a senior at IUP in 2012. She owns the Crimson Hawks’ career pitching records in appearances (135), starts (117), complete games (105), innings pitched (803.2), wins (78), shutouts (32), saves (five) and strikeouts. She was IUP’s Rookie of the Year in 2007.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gwynedd-Mercy junior Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) was named the CSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week after going 2-0 at both #1 singles and doubles to help the Griffins remain undefeated in conference play. Against Cabrini, Fein won 8-5 in doubles before winning a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 marathon in singles. She won twice more against Baptist Bible (6-0, 6-0 singles, 8-1 doubles) to earn her 100th and 101st career victories. Fein – as of Oct. 8 – was 53-4 in singles play and 48-3 in doubles during her three-year career.
Fein earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles and was part of the number one doubles team that earned an 8-6 win in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 6-3 win over Marywood on Saturday. In Gwynedd’s 9-0 win over Rosemont, Fein earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at number one singles and was part of the number one doubles team that earned an 8-1 win.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 12 kills and a career high 17 digs in the University of Connecticut’s 3-2 loss to Cincinnati on Friday. In last Sunday’s 3-1 win over DePaul, Maugle led the Huskies with 17 kills and added seven digs.
Junior middle blocker Mara Berzins (Pennridge) had eight kills in Ursinus College’s 3-1 loss to Rowan on Saturday.
Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) had five blocks in Moravian’s 3-1 loss to The Catholic University on Sunday. In Saturday’s 3-1 win over Susquehanna, O’Hara had five blocks and six kills. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Cedar Crest, O’Hara had five blocks and five kills, and senior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey (Pennsbury) had five digs and a kill.
Freshman Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) recorded her fifth double-double in Cabrini’s 3-2 loss to Neumann College on Tuesday. Koenig recorded 38 assists to go along with 14 digs. The loss was the first in CSAC play for Cabrini (13-5 overall, 6-1 CSAC).
Abbie Keating (Neshaminy) contributed 13 kills in Cairn University’s 3-2 win over Misericordia on Monday.
Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed 10 kills with a .625 hitting percentage in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-0 win over Ursinus on Thursday night. In Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Muhlenberg, Harvey had a team high 12 kills to go along with five blocks.
Leah Brown (William Tennent) had 24 assists in Penn State Abington’s 3-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday. Sophomore Kate Schalck (William Tennent) led the team on defense with three solo blocks in Penn State Abington’s 3-0 sweep of Keystone College on Saturday.
Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had eight kills and two blocks to lead Kutztown to a 3-0 win over Cheyney on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over West Chester, Stringer had nine kills, four assists, two aces, six digs and four blocks.
