MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Senior Brian Quintrell (North Penn) stepped up to Shippensburg’s number two runner, placing 29th overall and posting a time of 26:35 at the 2012 PSAC Championships held on the Cooper’s Lake Campground course outside Slippery Rock on Saturday. It marked a significant improvement at the conference meet for Quintrell, who was Shippensburg’s No. 10 runner last year with an 83rd place finish. Shippensburg finished fifth overall as a team.
Penn State Abington freshman Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) has been named the NEAC Men’s Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance at last Saturday’s 8K Cross Country Only Championships in Geneva, N.Y. Kane took second place out of 173 runners with a time of 27:06.53 (5.27 pace per mile). The Nittany Lions finished the event in eighth place out of 17 teams. This is the fourth time this season that Kane was named Student-Athlete of the Week.
Taylor University's Jared Reed (Pennridge) posted a time of 26:58 at the 35-team Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids on Saturday. Taylor finished 11th as a team.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Lock Haven’s Laura Histand (Neshaminy) finished 45th with a time of 24:14.4 at the 2012 PSAC Championships on Saturday. Lock Haven finished 11th as a team.
West Chester’s Trish Evans (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 81st in the 2012 PSAC Championships at Slippery Rock on Saturday, posting a time of 25:28. The women’s team placed eighth overall.
Bloomsburg’s Lauren Bond (North Penn) finished 41st with a time of 24:08 at the 2012 PSAC Championships on Saturday. Bloomsburg finished fourth as a team.
FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) scored a goal with just 1:21 remaining to give Delaware Valley College a 3-2 win over Manhattanville College on Saturday. The win clinched a Freedom Conference playoff berth for the Aggies.
Alyssa Tourdot (Wissahickon) contributed a goal and an assist in Albright's 6-2 win over Hood College on Homecoming Friday. With the win, the team equaled a program best nine wins for the season.
Senior Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a goal and also added an assist in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 10-1 win over Marywood on Saturday. Freshman Katie O’Neill (Council Rock North) also scored a goal. In Thursday’s 5-0 win over Immaculata, O’Neill scored a goal.
Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) stepped up to disrupt Kutztown from getting in transition and kept the pressure on the defense in Bloomsburg’s 3-1 win over Kutztown on Senior Day on Wednesday.
Colleen Kempf (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist on La Salle’s only goal in the Explorers 2-1 loss to VCU on Sunday. Becca Chylack (Souderton) was one of seven seniors honored in a special pre-game ceremony. In Saturday’s 4-1 loss to #14 UMass on Friday, junior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) scored La Salle’s only goal.
Senior Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) scored her seventh goal of the season on a corner play in Rider’s 3-1 win over Siena on Friday. In last Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Quinnipiac, she delivered an assist on a penalty corner.
Maura Hennigan (Central Bucks West) scored a goal in No. 6 Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 win over Washington College on Saturday. In Monday’s 5-0 win over Rhodes, Hennigan contributed an assist.
Becky Ely (Council Rock North) contributed an assist in No. 10 Messiah College’s 3-2 win over reigning national champion TCNJ on Thursday.
Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Lebanon Valley’s 4-3 loss to Arcadia on Tuesday. Vasey’s goal took her to 148 career points, moving her to fifth all time at LVC.
Senior forward Gretchen Kempf (Central Bucks South) scored on a penalty stroke 10 minutes into overtime to lift the University of Scranton to a 1-0 win over nationally-ranked Catholic University on Saturday afternoon. It was the 13th goal and second game-winning goal of the season for Kempf, who now has 39 career goals. That is fourth most in school history. Her 93 career points are also fourth most in school history. She also has nine career game-winning goals. The Senior Day win puts Scranton in position to earn the top seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs. In Thursday’s 5-2 loss to Arcadia, Kempf scored an unassisted goal.
Freshman Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) scored her fourth goal of the season in Villanova’s 3-1 loss at Louisville. Kenney has notched 13 points in her first year as a Wildcat.
FOOTBALL
Shippensburg junior Jake Metz (Souderton) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday after a nine-tackle performance in a 42-24 come-from-behind win at West Chester that improved the No. 13 Red Raiders to 8-0. Metz had two tackles for a loss in the game and was one of three defensive linemen who had a sack in Saturday’s game. In addition to his nine tackles (two solo, seven assisted), Metz also had a pass breakup. His season sack total is now nine, leaving him one shy of tying the Shippensburg single-season record.
Junior Mike Good (Norristown) took advantage of an opportunity to start in Shippensburg’s 42-24 win over West Chester by recording six tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Shawn Leo (Souderton) booted a 40-yard field goal with :01 left in the first half of West Chester’s 42-24 loss to No. 13 Shippensburg on Saturday. Linebacker Mike Culbreath (North Penn) had a career best 14 tackles.
Lou Brown (Upper Dublin) picked off his third pass of the season and returned the ball 47 yards in Millersville’s 20-15 loss to LIU Post. Teammate Myron Myles (Wissahickon) had a four-yard touchdown run and finished the day with 64 yards on eight carries. Rasheed Johnson (Norristown) led Millersville’s defense with 10 tackles.
Craig Needhammer (North Penn) ran 11 times for 30 yards in Lycoming’s 28-23 loss to Widener on Saturday.
Kevin Morton (Abington) set the school record for passing yards for the second straight week in Kutztown’s 59-33 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Just seven days removed from a 479-yard effort that set the school record for passing yards in a game, Morton threw for 490 yards and three touchdowns. He was 35-of-42 (86 percent) with no interceptions. Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) caught a seven-yard touchdown pass. He now has 19 career touchdown catches, moving him into fifth place all-time at Kutztown.
Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) hauled in a pair of touchdown passes to help lead fourth-ranked Bloomsburg to a 27-13 win over Cheyney University on Saturday.
Senior tight end Joe Hoy (Central Bucks East) caught a six-yard touchdown pass in Ursinus College's 36-0 win over Susquehanna on Saturday. Freshman kicker Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) converted a 24-yard field goal. Sophomore wide receiver Josh Williams (Central Bucks South) contributed three catches for 47 yards.
Temple senior placekicker/punter Brandon McManus (North Penn) was named the Specialist of the Week by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers' Association following the team's 17-14 overtime win at Connecticut last weekend. At Connecticut, McManus made an extra point with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and force overtime. He nailed a 29-yard field goal in OT to give the Owls their second overtime win in school history and first back-to-back wins in BIG EAST play in school history. Against the Huskies, McManus punted eight times for 341 yards (42.6 average) and kicked off three times for 195 yards (65.0 average) and a touchback. McManus also was honored with BIG EAST Specialist of the Week honors, National Specialist of the Week honors by the College Football Performance Awards and ESPN Helmet Stickers.
In Temple’s 35-10 loss to nationally-ranked Rutgers on Saturday, McManus connected on a 49-yard field goal that put the Owls on top 10-0 late in the first half.
GOLF
La Salle junior Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) fired a two-over par 72 on Saturday for a 36-hole total of 150 (+10), which was good for a tie for seventh place out of the 99-player field at the Big 5 Invitational.
Penn State Abington sophomore Bobby Crawford (Council Rock North) was named the NEAC Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. He carded a five-over 77 to finish tied for third out of 44 golfers at the Philadelphia University Classic. Crawford helped the Nittany Lions finish in second place overall out of nine teams.
West Chester’s Eric Slawter (Upper Merion) shot a 75 and was 13th individually after one day at the 2012 PSAC Championships.
Millersville’s Kevin Davis (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a 79 and was tied for 26th after the first day of the PSAC Championship at Hershey Links.
MEN’S SOCCER
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) made a career-high 10 saves in goal for his first shutout of the season in Shippensburg’s 1-0 win over Mercyhurst on Tuesday.
Senior Matt Howard (Abington) scored a goal in Penn State Abington’s 4-1 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday. Howard is the Nittany Lions scoring leader. In Monday’s 3-2 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy, Howard recorded a goal.
Sophomore Troy Czapor (Council Rock South) scored his fifth goal of the season in Widener’s 4-2 win over Albright on Wednesday.
Christian Benner (Souderton) scored 21 minutes into the second half to lift West Chester to a 2-1 win over East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.
Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored an unassisted goal in Bloomsburg’s 3-1 loss to West Chester on Saturday. It was Miller’s team leading seventh goal and his 17th point of the year. In Tuesday’s 2-1 loss Millersville, Anthony Manero (Council Rock North) scored the Huskies’ lone goal on a header off a corner kick taken by Miguel Diaz (Central Bucks East).
Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) scored the only goal in Elizabethtown’s 1-1 tie with Lebanon Valley on Saturday. It was his first goal as a Blue Jay.
Senior captain Sean Peckham (Central Bucks East) scored the game-winning goal in Lafayette’s 1-0 win over NJIT on Tuesday. His second goal of the year came in the 81st minute.

Megan Kelley (North Penn) tallied her third goal of the year, connecting for the game-winner in Millersville’s 2-1 win over Holy Family on Thursday.
Sophomore Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) scored from 25 yards out in the 25th minute of Holy Family's 4-3 win over Post University on Saturday. In Thursday's 2-1 loss to Millersville, Kisselback contributed an assist on her team's only goal.
Sophomore Alyssa Kirk (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Temple's 2-1 loss to Butler on Friday.
Sophomore keeper Gabrielle Benedict (Central Bucks West) had 12 saves in Penn State Abington’s 4-0 loss to Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday.
Elizabethtown freshman Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) was named Commonwealth Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 15. She also was named Commonwealth Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Cerankowski scored three goals with her biggest the one that gave Elizabethtown a 2-1 lead against Albright in the 86th minute of Saturday’s 2-1 win. Earlier in the week, Cerankowski posted two goals in less than a minute in Elizabethtown’s 4-1 win over Alvernia. Cerankowski is the first Blue Jay women’s soccer player to earn a weekly award from the conference this season. Cerankowski is third on the team in scoring with 11 points (four goals, three assists). She has started all 14 games for Elizabethtown.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gwynedd-Mercy junior Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) was named the 2012 CSAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year for the third straight season. Fein went a perfect 16-0 in singles play (10-0 in conference), winning 15 of the matches by straight sets and seven by a 6-0, 6-0 score. With the 10 conference victories, Fein improved her career CSAC record to 30-0 at #1 singles. Fein received first team All-CSAC Singles and first team All-CSAC Doubles.
In Saturday’s CSAC Team Tournament final, Fein earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at number one singles in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 5-3 loss to Marywood. She was part of Gwynedd’s first doubles team that earned an 8-3 win. In Friday’s 6-0 semifinal win over Keystone, Fein rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles and was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-5 win. In Tuesday’s 5-4 win over La Salle, Fein earned a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win at first singles.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 13 kills in the University of Connecticut's 3-2 win over South Florida on Friday night. In UConn's 3-1 loss to No. 15 Louisville, Maugle led the Huskies with 15 kills and nine digs.
Freshman Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) contributed 26 assists in Cabrini's 3-0 loss to Haverford on Wednesday. In Tuesday's 3-0 sweep of Keystone College, Koenig had 23 assists and a season high six service aces.
Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) had two blocks in Moravian College’s 3-0 win over Lycoming on Saturday. She had 10 kills and two blocks in Moravian’s 3-1 win over Marymount (Va.) later in the day. Teammate JeanAnne Carey (Pennsbury) had a pair of service aces. In Thursday’s 3-1 win over DeSales, O’Hara had seven blocks and six kills. Moravian is ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the first NCAA Division III Regional Rankings of the 2012 season released on Thursday. The Greyhounds had an overall record of 20-5 through Oct. 14, and Moravian was 20-5 as well in-region.
Emily Merrick (Pennsbury) had a season high 2.5 blocks, five kills and two digs in La Salle’s 3-2 win over NJIT on Tuesday.
Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) had five blocks and nine kills in Kutztown’s 3-2 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-0 loss to first place Lock Haven, Stringer had a team high 11 kills.
Outside hitter Abbie Keating (Neshaminy) had a team high nine kills in Cairn University’s 3-1 loss to Baptist Bible College on Thursday.
Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed eight kills, two aces and three blocks in Franklin & Marshal’s 3-0 win over Washington College.
Penn State Abington freshman Leah Brown (William Tennent) tallied 77 assists and 40 digs on Saturday at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament. The Nittany Lions were 1-1, defeating SUNY Cobleskill 3-1 and dropping a 3-2 decision to Keuka College. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Trinity Washing University, Brown posted 26 assists. In Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Bryn Athyn, Brown had 19 digs. Teammate Kate Schalck (William Tennent) had eight kills.
Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) had 11 kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-1 loss at Lycoming on Wednesday.
