MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrini junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Honor Roll and also was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for the week ending Nov. 25. During the week, Rafferty averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, leading the Blue and White to an 80-66 win over Eastern and an 81-60 defeat of Widener. Four games into the season, Rafferty ranks among the CSAC’s top 11 in free throw percentage (#3 – 0.0923), points (#9 – 16.3), minutes (#9 – 33.8) and rebounds (#11 – 6.8). His 0.579 three-point shooting percentage also tops the conference.

Junior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) scored 11 points in Moravian’s 69-55 win over Juniata on Saturday.

Freshman Arron Goodman (Council Rock South) posted his fourth career double-double with 26 points – including 22 in the second half – and 12 rebounds in Cabrini’s 74-73 loss to No. 12 Scranton on Tuesday. Senior Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) also posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Rafferty finished with 10 points. The website D3hoops.com listed Cabrini No. 21 in its first regular season poll.

Sophomore Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 84-67 loss to Salisbury University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 85-82 loss to Cairn University, Marvin scored 20 points.

Freshman forward Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) had six points and three rebounds in Washington College’s 86-71 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday.

Senior guard Derek Brooks (North Penn) had seven points and three assists in Gettysburg’s 57-56 loss to Haverford College on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 55-44 loss to York College, Brooks contributed four assists.

CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had six points and three blocked shots in St. Joseph’s 80-51 loss to No. 11 Creighton on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 74-55 win over American, Aiken scored 16 points.

Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed eight points in Villanova’s 62-52 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Sophomore Michael Guldin (Pennridge) scored 17 points, which included an 11-for-11 effort at the foul line, in DeSale’s 85-68 win over Wilkes University on Saturday. Guldin also had five assists and four steals. In Monday’s 87-82 win over Penn State Berks, Guldin scored 13 points.

Justin Van Houten (Central Bucks East) contributed eight points and three rebounds in Penn State Altoona’s 59-53 come-from-behind win over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-69 win at Franciscan, Van Houten scored a team-high 22 points, which included a 3-for-3 effort from three-point range.

Junior AJ Picard (Souderton) was named Goldey-Beacom Athlete of the Month for the month of November. The Souderton alum is the Lightning’s second-leading scorer with a 13.0 average. He also led the team with 25 assists and ranked second on the team with nine steals. Picard scored in double figures in five of the Lightning’s eight games. After the first month of the season, Picard has made 35-of-38 free throw attempts (.921). He also is averaging four rebounds a game. In Friday’s 87-81 loss to Concordia, Picard had 12 points. In Wednesday’s 85-76 win over Mercy College, Picard scored a career high 25 points and added a season high seven rebounds. The win was the third in four games for the Lightning.

Joe Renzi (Abington) contributed seven points, five assists and three rebounds in Elizabethtown’s 80-70 loss to Widener on Wednesday.

Pat Furst (Central Bucks West) recorded a team best and career high 19 points to lead Wilkes University in its 73-65 loss to defending Freedom champion Misericordia on Wednesday.

Senior Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) connected on 9-of-16 from the field to put up a season high 26 points – two shy of his career best – in Temple’s 70-60 win over Wagner on Saturday. The Owls are off to a 5-0 start for the first time in a quarter century.  In Wednesday’s 54-39 win over Buffalo, Wyatt scored eight points in 24 minutes but was forced to leave the game with just over nine minutes to play due to a cut on his left arm that required three stitches to close.

Sophomore Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) made his first career start and played a career high 31 minutes in Shippensburg’s 66-48 loss to Clarion on Saturday. The PW alum finished with five points and three rebounds.

Junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) tied his career high with 21 points, which included the game-winning layup with 1:01 to go, in Philadelphia University’s 77-72 win over Felician on Saturday afternoon. Senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) finished with a game high 31 points and tied a career high with nine three-pointers.  He opened the game by draining four straight three-pointers to put the Rams on top 12-4.

Junior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored 20 points to lead Ursinus to an 82-79 overtime win over Swarthmore on Saturday. Freshman guard Mark Wonderling (Souderton) added 10 points and seven rebounds. In Thursday’s 68-63 loss to 11th-ranked Franklin & Marshall, Wonderling had 11 points off the bench. Krasna added seven assists.

Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 18 points in East Stroudsburg’s 67-62 win at Mercyhurst in the PSAC opener for both teams on Saturday. The PW alum went over the 500-point mark (514) in his 36th career game. He led the Warriors with 13.9 points per game last year, becoming the first freshman to lead a PSAC championship team in scoring in at least 25 years. In Monday’s 101-62 win over Penn State Lehigh, Grant had 14 points, five assists and six steals in 19 minutes.

Senior Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored 10 points, which included two three-pointers, in Bloomsburg’s 84-66 loss to Slippery Rock in Saturday’s PSAC opener. In Wednesday’s 81-67 loss to Lincoln University, Christmas tied his season high of 17 points while also grabbing five rebounds. His five three-pointers extended his streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer to 14.

Ryan Connolly (Souderton) scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half of Kutztown’s 91-75 loss to Kutztown on Tuesday night, connecting on 3-for-4 from three-point range in the opening half. He also had seven rebounds and three steals.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore Jessica Schmidt (Abington) pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds, nine on the defensive end, and also scored six points in Penn State Abington’s 62-32 win over Cairn University on Tuesday.

Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) scored 17 points on 50 percent shooting from the field and connected on 5-of-8 threes in Millersville’s 72-49 win over Lock Haven on Saturday. For Lock Haven, Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored 10 points. Ryan has scored in double figures in three of four games. In Lock Haven’s 93-57 win over Notre Dame Collage, Ryan scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.

Freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) was one of four players in double figures in Shippensburg’s 82-65 win over Clarion in the PSAC opener for both teams on Saturday. The North Penn alum was 8-of-12 from the free throw line. She also pulled down a career high 14 rebounds.

Freshman guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had four points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in East Stroudsburg’s 63-49 loss to Mercyhurst on Saturday. In Sunday’s 78-68 loss to No. 11 Gannon, Gemmell had nine points.

Junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored a team high 19 points in Cabrini’s 57-53 loss at the University of Scranton on Tuesday night. She matched a career high with five three-pointers on eight attempts.

Sophomore Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin) scored 11 points in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 81-34 win over Centenary on Saturday. Teammate Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) added nine points and five assists, connecting on 3-for-4 from three-point range. In Monday’s 80-70 win over King’s, Fuery had 13 points while Dominic added six.

Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) had six points and three rebounds in Haverford’s 55-46 win over Franklin & Marshall on Thursday.

Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 10 points in Neumann University’s 87-55 win over Cairn University on Thursday.

Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds in Bloomsburg’s 84-46 win over Slippery Rock in the PSAC opener for both teams on Saturday.

Ginny Edwards (Central Bucks South) pulled down six rebounds and added two points in Wilkes University’s 63-60 loss to DeSales on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 62-52 loss to Misericordia, Edwards also had six boards and two points.

Senior guard Ashley Rosario (Harry S Truman) scored a season high 13 points and added three assists in Goldey-Beacom’s 71-45 win over Concordia College on Friday. Rosario made 6-of-10 shots from the floor and also had four rebounds and two steals. In last Sunday’s 73-64 loss to LIU Post, Rosario contributed 11 points and four rebounds.

Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) continued her scoring tear, tallying a team-high 17 points off the bench in Princeton’s 71-55 win over Rutgers on Thursday night. The CR South alum connected on 8-of-12 shots from the field.

Jordan Seiz (Central Bucks East) came up with a key steal that resulted in a bucket late in Messiah College’s 62-56 win over No. 7 Lebanon Valley. Seiz finished the night with six points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Sam Simononis (Pennridge) scored 11 points in Vermont’s 66-49 loss to Drexel on Saturday in the second day of the TD Bank Classic. In Thursday’s 59-48 win over Houston Baptist on day one of the TD Bank Classic, Simononis scored 10 points.

Sophomore guard Devin Gold (Council Rock North) had a key three-pointer in Calwell’s 66-62 loss to Virginia Union last Sunday at the East Stroudsburg Tournament.

Junior guard Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) had the most productive game of her St. Thomas University career on Saturday, contributing seven points, seven assists, six rebounds and six steals in 26 minutes off the bench in No. 20 STU’s 91-45 win over Trinity Baptist on Saturday.

Freshman Carley Kendall (Souderton) contributed six points and three rebounds off the bench in Washington College’s 59-44 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday.

Freshman forward Tori Steinberg (Central Bucks South) scored 13 points in Saturday’s 70-61 overtime loss to Johns Hopkins. In Thursday’s 67-34 win over Bryn Mawr, Steinberg scored eight points.

FOOTBALL
Temple senior Brandon McManus (North Penn) was named the national Honorable Mention Specialist and Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards last Sunday. In his final game as an Owl against Syracuse on Nov. 23, McManus had two field goals (47 yards, 22 yards) and two extra points to extend his career scoring record. He finished the game with five kickoffs for 314 yards (62.8 average) and four punts for 175 yards (43.8 average).  McManus ends his career as Temple’s career leader in points (338), field goals made (60), field goal attempts (83) and punting average (45.4). In 11 games, McManus finished the 2012 season as Temple’s scoring leader with 74 points. He was 32-of-33 in PATs and 14-of-15 in field goals. His kickoffs average was 63.5 yards. McManus led the BIG EAST Conference in punting (45.06). In the NCAA stats, McManus is No. 8 in punting (45.06) and No. 35 in field goals (1.27). The honors from CFP are McManus’ 11th this season.

West Chester placekicker Shawn Leo (Souderton) was named to the Daktronics, Inc., All-Super Region I second team. Leo has broken nearly every kicking record at West Chester during his first three years at the school. He has converted 48-of-49 extra point opportunities and connected on 13-of-13 field goal attempts for 87 points on the year. Leo was 5-of-6 from 40-49 yards out. He missed his only attempt from over 50 yards – barely missing a 57-yarder in the season finale against Clarion. Leo tied his own school record in that game with four field goals. His 37 career field goals are already the school mark as is his 82.2 percent accuracy (37-of-45). He ranks third in extra points (119) and fifth in extra points attempted (123).

Shippensburg junior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) was named to the Daktronics All-Super Region 1 first team. The Souderton alum, Shippensburg’s nominee for the Gene Upshaw Lineman of the Year award, set a new school record this season with 11.5 sacks (eighth most in Division II and tied for third most in PSAC this season). He also recorded 19.0 tackles for loss (16th most in Division II, second in PSAC). He has forced a league leading five fumbles, tied for third most in Division II, and he has recorded at least 0.5 tackles for loss in 11 of 13 games. His 76 total tackles ranks third on the Red Raiders.

MEN’S SWIMMING
Lycoming sophomore TJ Guminski (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a team and season best time of 4:28.11 in the 400 individual medley on Saturday at the Swarthmore Invitational, good enough for a fourth place finish. Guminski posted a ninth place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.52. On Friday, Guminski posted a time of 5:17.54 to take 13th in the 500 free, notching the Warriors’ best time of the season in the event. 

Freshman Kevin Dunigan (North Penn) was part of Washington and Jefferson College’s second place 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:46.19 at the 16th Annual Grove City College Winter Swimming and Diving Invitational on Friday. Dunigan finished fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.46.

Penn State sophomore diver TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) has surpassed the NCAA ‘B’ standards in both the one-meter (301.05) and three-meter (332.92) boards.

Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) was part of Bloomsburg’s 200 IM relay team that finished sixth at the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron University, posting a time of 1:35.17. Matt Ortlieb (North Penn) was part of Bloomsburg’s ‘B’ relay team that finished in 1:36.07. DiLemmo (51.47) and Ortlieb (53.13) both posted season bests in the 100 butterfly. Senior Jeremy Frey (Central Bucks East) improved by nearly 13 seconds to win the ‘B’ final in the 400 IM. His mark of 4:11.55 earned him over a four-second win in the event. On Friday, DiLemmo was part of the 400 IM relay that finished seventh overall while breaking the school record with a time of 3:29.30. Senior Nick Ortlieb (North Penn) posted a PSAC qualifying cut in the ‘C’ final of the 200 IM, improving his previous mark by 3.3 seconds for a qualifying time of 2:02.21 to finish fourth in the ‘C’ final.

Jake Oeschger (Springfield) was part of West Chester’s 400 medley relay that posted a time of 3:33.65 at the Golden Rams Classic on Saturday. West Chester captured its second straight team title at a swim meet this season. On Friday, Oeschger was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:35.45. He also was part of the 800 free relay that finished second with a time of 7:11.48.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin)
was part of Arizona’s winning 4x200 free relay that broke a meet record at the USA Swimming AT&T Winter National Championships on Thursday at Texas, posting a time of 1:28.63. The time broke the previous meet record set by USC in the preliminaries. On Friday, Lafferty was part of the winning 4x200 medley that posted a time of 1:36.46. Arizona’s winning 400 free relay on Saturday also shattered the meet record, posting a time of 3:13.90.

Franklin & Marshall’s Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) placed sixth with a time of 1:02.92 in the 100 backstroke at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday. She also was part of the 200 freestyle relay that finished fourth with a time of 1:41.65.

Paige Whitmire (Souderton) was part of Penn State’s fourth place 200 free relay at the Georgia Fall Invitational on Friday. The relay team swam a season best 1:31.00, which is close to the NCAA provisional qualifying time and is over one second faster than the team’s previous best. Whitmire also was part of the 400 medley relay that posted a season best time of 3:37.86.

Bloomsburg freshman Alex Wheatley (Upper Dublin) set a school record in the 100 backstroke on Saturday at the Zippy Invitational hosted by Akron University. Julia DeVincent (Upper Dublin) was part of the fifth place 800 free relay that set a school record with an NCAA ‘B’ time of 7:37:14, breaking the previous school record of 7:40.22 set in 2002. Senior Madeline Barlow (Pennsbury) earned an NCAA ‘B’ time in the 100 fly, posting a NCAA ‘B’ cut and season best time of 57.79.  On Friday, DeVincent was part of the 200 free relay that posted an NCAA  ‘B’ cut time of 1:38.01. Barlow finished seventh in the 200 IM ‘C’ final with a time of 2:10.72. DeVincent (24.72) and Wheatley (25.41) posted PSAC cut times in the 50 free.

Freshman Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of Shippensburg’s second place 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.65, a new season PR by .20 seconds, on Saturday at the 2012 Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday. The time was an NCAA ‘B’ cut time. She also finished 10th in the 200 free, posting a PSAC cut time of 1:57.45.  On Friday, Meier placed 19th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.41, also a PSAC cut time.

Amanda Thomas (William Tennent) was part of Millersville’s second place 200 freestyle relay in the Marauders 106-98 loss to nationally-ranked Lock Haven on Friday night.

West Chester’s Kelsey Tennett (Hatboro-Horsham) finished fourth on 1-meter springboard with a score of 232.95 on Saturday at The College of New Jersey Invitational on Saturday. On Friday, Tennett finished third overall in the 3-meter springboard diving competition. She scored a 441.25, finishing behind two divers from host TCNJ. Margaret Meade (Upper Moreland) finished eighth with a score of 340.70. Dani Barron (Pennridge) finished sixth in the 400 individual medley.

Sophomore Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) was part of Ursinus College’s 800 free relay that posted a winning time of 7:52.99 at the Golden Ram Classic hosted by West Chester. She also was part of the winning 400 free relay that posted a time of 3:36.17.

WRESTLING
Ursinus sophomore Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) finished second overall at 157 in the two-day Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College. It was the highest place finisher for the Bears. He opened the invitational with a pin over Dominick Ardo of Wilkes in 2:48, then scored a major decision over Kalann Washington of Messiah by a 10-2 score. In the semifinals, he defeated Logan Yox of McDaniel by an 11-2 major decision before dropping a 6-2 decision to Troy Sterling of Cortland.
