MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior guard Robbie Pines (Souderton) had seven assists in East Stroudsburg’s 73-60 win over Caldwell on Sunday. Pines (8.7 PPG) is averaging 6.6 assists per game with a 3.5 assist-to-turnover ratio. ESU is 9-0. Pines had nine points, six rebounds and seven assists to lead East Stroudsburg to a 78-74 win over Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday.
Freshman Eddie DiRugeris (Pennsbury) contributed six points, four rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal in Philadelphia University's 70-61 win over St. Rose College on Sunday.
Chris McDevitt (Central Bucks West) is a member of Widener University’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). McDevitt was part of a group of student-athletes who visited Stetser Elementary School in Chester where they distributed toys to children in kindergarten through third grade.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Widener sophomore center Casey Pritz (Abington) was named Commonwealth Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Dec. 14. Pritz scored a career-best 28 points in Widener’s 55-48 triumph over Swarthmore. She shot 12-of-19 from the floor over 27 minutes and bested her previous high of 24 points set against Albright on Jan. 7, 2009. Pritz, the reigning conference Rookie of the Year, is 17th in the league with 10.1 points per game and seventh with 6.9 rebounds per contest. She is seventh with a .513 shooting percentage and first with 2.11 blocks per game. Pritz had 10 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in Widener’s 66-55 loss to Rowan on Friday.
Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) came one point shy of registering her first career double-double in LaSalle’s 55-54 win at Rider on Sunday. Gale was one of three Explorers to score nine points while she also had team-highs with 12 rebounds, a career-high, four steals and five assists.
FOOTBALL
A pair of SOL alums, freshmen Dan Shirey (Neshaminy) and Ronnie Akins (North Penn), were part of the Villanova football team that captured the school’s first ever national championship with its 23-21 win over No. 1 seed and previously undefeated Montana in front of 14,328 at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Friday. Shirey is a starter on the offensive line while Akins is a key member of special teams and also sees action as a reserve at safety.
Widener junior Jon Natter (Abington) was named to the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Widener’s Kyle Brucker (Pennridge), Colin Koch (Pennridge) and Marty Squicciarini (North Penn) were named to the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Junior Jesse Bregman (Springfield) was named Widener’s Athlete of the Week. In last Saturday’s win over Washington (Md.), Bregman won the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle and was part of the 200 freestyle relay. It was Widener’s fifth straight dual meet win, and the Pride remained undefeated vs. Division III opponents.
